Speaking of breeding moves onto pokes, what will we do about Shuckle and other things like it? I mean, it only gets Stealth Rock through Gen 4, so it can't have Contrary. I know Shuckle isn't a big deal, but what about like Gliscor? It can't have both Defog and Poison Heal. Would we be like, "Yea, Hyper Cutter or Sand Veil Gliscors can relearn it, but if it's Poison Heal, it just can't."

Maybe we can make Stealth Rock Shuckle and Defog Gligar events. That way we can control the ability and everything. Maybe if we want multiples we can just have a few guys willing to trade you for random crap

I have a suggestion which chould be useful:

What if trainers can give you teambuilding advice if you lose to them. For example:

Your team seems weak to Talonflame, a Rotom Wash might help you.
Charizard X just runs through this team, get a Rhyperior or something.

This could help with teambuilding and generally seems pretty useful for newer players. It can also act a sort of RMT like thing.

I like this idea, but make sure that the NPC team in question is unlikely to sweep with any of his other mons. For example, if you have an NPC team with Critdra and DD megazard, both of these mons have very different checks, and both of them are plenty capable of wrecking an unprepared team, so what does the NPC say when he wins in this case? On one hand, not every NPC needs to give helpful advice when he wins, on the other hand, as enemy teams get bigger, it can be hard to figure out which threat is most likely to cause any given player to lose.

Also, since Team Luck-Sack is gonna be breaken dah rulz already, can we make Magikarp Dude one of the grunts? Every game has at least one guy with 6 magikarp, but to have him here would violate darn near everything Smog Smog stands for. Therefore, the only way for him to be included would be to make him a Team Luck-Sack member (grunt obviously). If we wanted to be doubly hilarious, we can have him come back later in the game with a 6 gyarados team, at least one of which is DD mega-gyara obv.

Salemance Wynaut have 2 prisons? One in Golurkmoar town (complete with Golurk guards, obv) for the random forum trolls and one that appears much later specifically reserved for Team Luck-Sack? Alternatively, there is no particularly good reason for Team Luck-Sack's hideout to be in Golurkmoar prison or any prison at all, so we make it somewhere else and simply chuck the admins into Golurkmoar prison when they are defeated.

coolking49 There isn't any good reason why we can't have Smog Smog be in the southern hemisphere. There's also no reason why we can't have early ice types (cept Kyub, I can think of many reasons why we don't want to give the trainer him too early on). I literally just proposed a route one ghost type yesterday, and it seems like people like the idea.

Yea, but then how can you control other egg moves? Maybe there could be some guy who says, "Yeah, I'm importing Pokemon from another region. They have special moves! Want one?" He then gives you a list of pokes that could get larger as you get more badges. When you pick one, "I can get you one for... how about a(n) "insert trash poke here"? They're in high demand outside of the SmogSmog region." If you give it to him, "Great! Your "selected poke" will be here soon. Speaking of which, what moves do you want on it?" At least that's what I'm thinking.

Sounds all good. just got to get what we want one town at a time there bud! ;)

I like this thread, I really do. But doesn't this belong somewhere else? I don't really get what it contributes to OU.

True enough, and I also originally proposed this for an Orange Islands project-- but the OU staff felt like it was a fun/productive idea, and that OU was its best home (where it would get the most meaningful response), so here it is-- let's make sure it stays that way (or else I will move it to Orange Islands granted permission from mods there).

Alright yall, now we do have a nice bit of info pertaining to the water mons and town description, but now is a part that we would like to get your impact on: Story.

Right now we have a setting of the first town, but what happens there? Does the protagonist get assaulted by a group of Greninja (puns)? Does a pack of wild Emboar burn down somebodies house while the Professor tries to sell you his limited time offer Klondike bars? Give us your ideas of what happens there and as a community help figure out what may be happening here in the town even if its as simple as some guy hands you the Pokémon and leaves you to your own devices.

DISCUSS!

Professor: I hear you have been using extremely bad pokemon. Fire spin on Charizard is terrible, and worthless. If you want to successfully become a (pokemon master/champion/mod on smogon/whatever), then you need to join Smogon university. Offering the best in competitive battling since 2004? It is just <insert directions here>. But first let me show you what some of our finest graduates are capable of. <Insert a high profile battle, with expirienced players>. Do you want to be this good?

You are then offered a yes/no.

If you select no, then the following happens

Professor: Fine go on using your pikachu. It's useless, and it will not help you become a better battler. You know what, get out of my lab. You won't be ready for Smogon until you apologize.

You will black out and appear outside the lab. Walk in, and the professor will ask you if you will apologize. No will lead to you repeating the same blacking out sequence. If you select yes in either scenario, then the following happens.

Professor: Great! Smogon will teach you the correct way to battle! I'll show you where it is!

The professor marks on your map/points where you need to go. When you get to the university, It will be burning down, due to the work of the evil team. A famous smogonite will run out and say something along the lines of

"Did professor<name> send you here? Unfortunately, we have been attacked by team<name of team>. I'm afraid you will have to learn on your own. Don't worry, a few students will be with you( these students can be the rivals). Here is the smogondex to help you learn which strategies and pokemon are the best ones. Now, pick the Pokemon you want. (Once you choose) That was an excellent choice. Remember that pokemon is<insert charisteristics and good teamates>. We don't just have these 3 pokemon, we have many. However, one of your fellow students also picked a pokemon from these 3. It was<rival's pokemon>. If you ever battle, remember his is better than yours 1v1, and so you need to back it up with reliable team mates.
I do apologise for this, but you have to learn by yourself. The first gym will test your abilities. It is in <town>. Get going!

Then, you continue onwards to the first gym.

stuff about stealth rock and illegalities
I was always under the impression that stealth rock would be a TM or tutor move. From the OP, "Route 1 NPC: Random guy hidden behind rock outcrop
Script: Shhhh these rocks are my stealthy hiding place. Tell you what, if you keep my hideout a secret, I'll give you a present. Here, take this TM for Stealth Rocks."

incompatibilities in abilities/moves
If we go by in game logic, there really shouldn't be any illegalities since all (most) abilities and moves will be available to mix and match, and while it doesn't really fit into the "pure OU the happening experience," it's probably more logical and fun from an in-game perspective.

Professor: Fine go on using your pikachu. It's a piece of SH*T, and it will not help you become a better battler. You know what, get out of my lab. You won't be ready for Smogon until you apologize.
The project (hypothetical as it is) is supposed to be an affectionate parody of Smogon and the ubiquity of certain pokemon and movesets in OU and how it would relate to an in-game experience. While satire and sarcasm are obviously funny, that seems a bit too biting and inappropriate for the setting, as compared to the quotes in the OP.

That was just a rough script plan. My idea was to have the script lead in that direction. Sorry if it is inappropriate. Edited that bit out if it was inappropriate

I can make some in-game maps if you'd like.
I have only one question; are we allowed to use custom tileset made by people on deviantart, since I have to give credit to them if we use it.

Otherwise I'll use the in-game tiles but they are so ugly ;-;

EDIT: Ok I made a WIP map. It only has the protagonist's house, the 'Smogon University' and a small beach. The beach is up to change, depending on wether Golurkmoar Town will connetc to the sea or not. I can change it into a pond fairly easy

For god's (gf's) sake people, please don't forget "are you a boy or a girl?".
Now, onto the story :
After prof. Chou's intro speech, you become your miniature overworld version. Talk to your mom/dad. They tell you that you are old enough to do something worthwhile and scold you for playing games and Facemoning [:P] everytime. They also told you how a neighbour's child has become an alumnus of smogonU and you still are relaxing here. They send you to Prof. You are a loser and go into wild alone only to be attacked by some goons whom you can't even see. Prof saves you and tells you how big a loser you are and how his boy (if you have a tutee chou) is doing great at Smogon, the no.1 pkmn university. Then, he lectures you about competitive pokemon and smogon and asks you to choose your starter. He also tells you about team luck sack, the people who attacked yot. Chou's assistant Salemence (who hates his own name, btw ;0 ) gives you Smogdex, the premier Pokedex nowadays, an enhancement of what was made by the Einstein-esque Prof Oak. Return to your parents, and they will give your Pokemon a "SCARF" which makes them swifter. (Reason : Of all the choice items, only CS is viable in LC. Also, since almost any team needs a revenge killer, it is expected that the gym leader will be having one too. Now, this puts the player at an extreme disadvantage. So, we will prolly have to give a choice scarf before the first gym. So, wynaut his parents give it to him as a good luck charm.)

Um, a little too much like an ass there in some regards (yet even I cant help but chuckle at the fact you are referencing me hating my own name) but still feel as if its.... a little traditional I guess. Idk, don't got a lot to say bout it really just feels off to me.

Ok I got bored and finished it :P
The fence-thing is the (possible) daycare, otherwise I'll transform it into a garden :3

That is first town? From how the consensus has shown, its fresh water and I guess that's like a closed off beach area thing?

But besides that, DAMN that's impressive. I cant work with pixel's like that (or computer stuff in general) but that is very impressive. Like the additions there :D

This looks fantastic but maybe one small suggestion. Since all the first cities in Pokemon games don't have a gateway like shown on the far left maybe it would be better to just go directly from your starter town to route 1 without the gateway. But other that that damn this is impressive.

O right. Will do.

Holy crap that's amazing
Also is there no entrance for the route to the south? Other than that, it's incredible.

Woops forgot.

Updating this when it's done (probably in like 20 minutes)

EDIT: Lol turned out to be 50 minutes
Here it is

Credit to EpicDay for the amazing tileset!

Also I realized none of the big OU guys have commented on this so uh

Big OU guys?

Looks very nice and thank ya man. Very impressive.

Now guess back to spit balling for story. Anyone else like to submit their own crack at how they see the first town's events unfolding?

If I can throw in my two cents on the HM issue, maybe we could go the route of the Mystery Dungeon games. In those games, the player can get past the HM barriers (surf, dive, etc.) if they carry the HM, even if they don't have an actual Team Member with the move. This would allow the TMs to still serve as a barrier without requiring the player to waste a valuable moveslot on it.

You start with Professor Chou asking if you want to learn how to competitive battle. If yes, then the transforming flavor stuff happens and you start in your house. Head down stairs, and Mom will give you the Running Shoes and tell you that Professor Chou was looking for you. Head to the university, and he will let you choose a starter. After that, there is the first rival battle, then, Chou gives you Poke Balls. Head onto Route 1 after that, and start your adventure!

I don't care if this doesn't contribute to discussion....
Just wondering, will there be team preview? I didnt play competitive in dp, but it seems like team preview really changed the meta between dp and bw. All mainstream Pokemon games have no team preview for ordinary trainer battles, so will smog edition be an exception?

Edit: about hms....
I propose a system similar to Pokemon zeta/omicron's hm items. When you defeat a gym leader, the gym leader gives you a key item which can be used as an hm infinite amount of times. All competitively useful hms will be turned into tms.

Team preview hasn't been in just game battles so I don't see why it would start now unless it was leaders....and even that's a slight stretch.

HMs have multiple ideas being discussed so its all free reign there.

Alright, story time. Well it should open up with what's written in the OP (with being a boy/girl and putting your name and everything), and then you obviously wake up in your house. You go downstairs, your dad mom tells you, "Time to go enroll at Smogon University!" and that opening scene stuff.
You go over to the University (both routes have that person that won't let you go into the tall grass). When you're there, Professor Chou talks to you more about EVs and that stuff and gives you your starter. Then you can go run an errand to the next town, come back, find out that your rival is battling against one of the bad guys, you help out and save the day. Yeah, there's probably better stories to start it out but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Oh and maybe for later in the game, the bad guys have a secret base in the middle of that pond #plottwist
