I would hope it's that easy, but knowing GF I'm sure it doesn't work that way. I did some googling and that won't work because the games will only accept the save file if you hadn't created a new save after backing it up. It's explained here for animal crossing:

Probly keep, Rash Xern usually wants Scarf and doesn't run max speed, so the imperfect speed isn't that bad
