ORAS General Discussion - Mark 2 - Spoilers Inside

What pokemon would you guys prefer to get as the Ice Mega if there is one ? Id love something like Froslass, Id call it Dovahkiin. (LOL)

I'd like to see Mega Weavile. I can see it getting Super Luck (and most if not all the high critical hit moves) or Tough Claws.

It wasn't confirmed, but given that they've showed the first half and could've been holding off the other ones not to "spoil" them, I think they're finally going to show the month of release, especially since it'll be coming out one week before release (and we know there will be some leaks anyway).

And I totally agree with what you said about Sidney. The thing is, his current artwork doesn't really convey that to me. Now he looks more like some ordinary thief who's fighting you under the condition that if you lose you'll have to hand out your pokémon or whatever, not like the cool guy with an aggressive playstyle from Gen III.

I'm cheering for Walrein or Jynx, but discussing this any further would probably be baseless speculation...

I'd personally keep the 8th Gym Leader a secret just to make us wonder whether it's Wallace or Juan. Speaking of whom, do you think they'll include the other in someway? Like maybe they'll have Juan be the Gym Leader and have Wallace be a pro Coordinator in Super Pokemon Contest (using Mega Milotic as his performing Pokemon).

Sidney does look a bit more like a goon, guessing they wanted to make him look more like a darker character? Actually, thinking about it, he sort of looks like some kind of loan shark. Yeah, he looks like a thief/goon face wise but is dressed in fashionable clothes and even has a nice watch. He looks like someone who would make you shady deals, definitely not like he was in Gen III.

About Sidney, I couldn't have put it any better. But I don't think there's any secret left regarding Sootopolis City's Gym Leader. Pretty much every reveal so far has showed they're following RS' storyline, so this should apply to Wallace as well. But they'll probably include Juan somehow. Your idea is pretty cool: it would be really interesting to face Juan in a Contest.

OKAY EVERYONE! No more Mega Evolution talk! I think we can all agree we pretty much extinguished all possible places we can go with Mega Evolutions that won't close the board. There's still other things to talk about, the new CoroCoro wasn't just Mega Beedrill and Mega Pidgeot. We can talk about:

1. The flying mechanic
2. Mythical Places
3. MultiNavi
4. Pokemon Mega Evolution Special ~Act 2~

Is the flying mechanic going to be with any flying pokemon or only with lati@s?Also,is that like the new "fly"? We cant just press the city we want to go anymore ? (My lazyness is tingling)

I replied to Pikachu315111, I barely said a sentence.

Sorry, that came off more rude than I thought and I apologize. And I'm sure Karxrida wasn't singling you out, there were other people speculating as well.

About the MultiNav: Not a big fan of what I've seen so far. It looks like they've replaced the TVs in Hoenn with the TVNavi... I think it was better the way it was, you walking into people's houses and talking to them, watching their TV - the kind of thing you only do in video games. Now it'll be like watching a video on your tablet - the kind of thing you do everyday...

On the other hand, it looks like the MultiNavi will bring to ORAS all the interactivity we have in XY, which is great. I'd personally just import the PSS and keep the good old PokéNav, but I guess that works too.

They mentioned so many functions but no word on the Match Call... GF, please don't leave out the best improvements from Emerald!

Since you can only fly on mega Lati@s and using a special item, I assume they'll keep the old fly. It's too classic and too convenient for them to get rid of. Exploring the sky will probably be just an option that becomes available post game by having a Latis, their respective mega stone and the Eon Flute. At least that's how I make sense of the information we got this month.

It's okay, I'm relatively new here anyways.

About the other stuff though, is there a pattern with Move Tutors in gens? I really hope these games have them.. I need Knock Off on my Kalos Breed mons :/

It only seems to be with the Eon Duo. My guess is that only the Eon Duo are fast enough and strong enough to be able to fly and carry you for long periods of time without needing to take a rest (especially when Mega Evolved)? Remember its sort of implied you're using your Pokemon to fly long distances (even if in-game between 2 cities is just 20 tiles), and to a non-Mega Eon Duo they at least need to land to rest for a bit. Not to mention you'll also be battling in the sky.

From the pictures it looks like they do sort of operate just like Fly, if you're over a city you're given the option to land there (of course you'd still probably need to visit the city first. Guess maybe the excuse that you know where to land but that's pretty flimsy).

Speaking of which, was it ever confirmed if Match Call is returning? I'll be seriously upset if we cannot re-battle trainers like in RSE (unless the VS Seeker returns, which I'll be more than happy with)

Nothing on Match Call. Besides from the map there's really no familiar features from the PokeNav, but it wouldn't really be Gen III remakes without that so I can only guess one of the new functions is more than it appears to be. I'm hoping when the site updates it tells us more, it looks like CoroCoro goes into a bit of detail yet no one seems interested in translating it (probably knowing the site update would have the info so there's no point).

I forgot about the VS Seeker, that could be an interesting way of "replacing" Match Call if its not in the MultiNavi and also bring in some FRLG into the game.

It's okay, I'm relatively new here anyways.

Remakes usually have Move Tutors in them. As mentioned before, ones not operating in the Battle Frontier usually ask for Shards as payments. Those who are ask for Battle Points.

Hmm, that's good. Is there a particular number that they usually have though? Like no more than 10 or something? Cause it'd be cool to have all the ones from last gen, or the important ones, then new ones like... *crosses fingers* Boomburst.

Depends on they want to do. In BW2 the Move Tutors were separated by Shard Color and they asked for a certain amount of their shard color to teach a move, ranging from 2 to 12. In Platinum & HGSS they also ask for shards but they'll require you to have various colors but always 8 of them. Also in HGSS there's a Move Tutor who accepts BP to teach certain moves. Finally in Emerald its Battle Frontier had a Move Tutor which required BP. The link I provided leads you to Bulbapedia's list of Move Tutors, what moves they teach, and what they're asking for.

As for Boomburst being available? Tough call. It's not impossible, but at the same time don't hold your breath. With that said there are plenty of Pokemon who would like to have it so that might give it some chance.

XY had a surprisingly low no of attacks; on top of that many were status moves and/or signature moves. Most of the new move tutors will probably be useless competitively.. That being said i'm hoping for parting shot/topsy-turvy.

True, I really hope they have like 4 move tutors though.

Topsy turvy and parting shot murkrow/Honchkrow...DO WANT!

You could still rematch trainers through Trainer's Eyes, but you had to hope for a rematch or so to become available, and Gym Leaders couldn't be registered at all. I'd love rematches so long as the trainers I can fight again don't constantly treat it as the first time fighting them, stopping me cold if they see me whether I really want to fight them now or not. I hated the Breeders in B2/W2 for this very reason.

I wouldn't necessarily bank on move tutors returning, however. Game Freak may have decided that giving players a veritable mountain of legendary Pokemon they can go catch along with the new Mega Evolutions is good enough and save the tutors for the Kalos revisit. I'd love for stuff like Knock Off, Hyper Voice, and Stealth Rock to return, but there's still that chance they won't...

Yeah, I meant ORAS should have MC to allow us to rebattle trainers like in RSE. Bad wording on my part. ;-;

I feel fairly confident that we'll see some move tutors in the games, since it's standard practice for sister versions/remakes. The question is "what moves will be tutorable?" We could simply see a rehash of the B2W2 tutors, maybe see the return of forgotten Gen III tutors such as Seismic Toss, or may see some different moves as a whole.

I swear, if Game Freak makes Wish a tutor move and gives it to Chansey, I'm gonna rage quit so bad.

Seeing as we're talking about Move Tutors, for those who are interested, here's the list of moves that could be tutored at the Battle Frontier in Pokemon Emerald:
  • Body Slam
  • Counter
  • Defense Curl
  • Dream Eater
  • Endure
  • Fire Punch
  • Ice Punch
  • Icy Wind
  • Mega Kick
  • Mega Punch
  • Mud Slap
  • Psych Up
  • Rock Slide
  • Seismic Toss
  • Snore
  • Softboiled
  • Swift
  • Swords Dance
  • Thunder Wave
  • Thunder Punch
Nothing too exciting, although Softboiled could be useful if it returns, and likewise for the Elemental Puches if you're breeding a Conkeldurr but don't have parents with egg moves. Anyway, I just thought this would be interesting for those who want to predict what moves will be available.
