Who are your role models?

For me they are:

-Jim Morrison
-Kurt Cobain
-John Lennon
-Robert Plant
-Martin Scorsese
-Marlon Brando
-Robert Deniro
-Al Pacino
-Jimi Hendrix

Egh, I don't have any role models. I used to have a lot when I was a kid, for example "This person actually did so and so", and such. As I've gotten older however, you see people you've known all your life, and then you realize that they're just like everyone else, with flaws, pet peeves, etc. This even carries over to famous people in my opinion. I've learned to respect people who work hard for their ambitions, but that's about it.

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
Paul Potts
John Lennon
Jimi Hendrix
Many of my friends

Those are the ones that really come to mind off the top of my head.

My mom, mainly. Why is Kurt Cobain your hero? He was a drug addict that killed himself. Do you really want to follow in those footsteps?

The term role model was introduced by Robert K. Merton. Merton says that individuals compare themselves with "reference groups" of people who occupy the social role to which the individual aspires. The term has passed into general use to mean any "person who serves as a example of a positive behavior".

loling at lists

people who can say no and stand firm, people who intervene during bully attacks and people who can wear whatever and not care that everyone is pointing and laughing.

i really look up to them.

Norm Duke. Professional Bowler (I have met him like three times at tournaments, he is also the coolest 40+ Year Old EVER).

George Clooney (NO homo). I just think he is a great actor
Matt Damon (NO homo). After watching The Bourne Ultimatum, he is now #1 on my list of actors.
Notice 2 things above the two actors: 1) They were both part of the "Oceans 11, 12, 13" Series, and neither one is all over the tabloids about being arrested for driving drunk have having OxyContin (personal note: that is a hell of a drug).

When I was playing drums for an old band, there was a man named Jeremy Smiley who played alongside me. He had been playing drums for 19 years and was really talented, and he would play percussion for the band while I played the set. I would stress out because the rest of the band would constantly tell me to play louder, or to play faster, or to play complex beats that I could barely handle (I was the youngest person in the band by more than 10 years). Jeremy took me aside one day and gave me one of the best pieces of advice I have ever gotten: "Don't stress out because you think you aren't good enough. You're doing stuff on that hi-hat that even I can't figure out. Doesn't matter if you've been playing two years or twenty, you can always learn something by watching someone else play."

Apart from Smiley, I look up to my dad, my uncle, and my little cousin -- who, even though he's only 11, is one of the raddest kids I'll ever meet.

My parents. Two people that weren't born with a whole lot (really, not much at all) and worked their asses off and now live a comfortable (not rich/wealthy by any means) life. They instilled in me great values and personal responsibility, and I can only aspire to be half as good at parenting as they are.

My role models are my parents. I don't look up to people I don't even know, I don't know how people can consider famous people they don't even know a 'role model'.

Likewise. Regardless of how well I parent my kids, they'll never be as great as the one that my parents raised.

Agreeing 100%

Cliff Burton and Dave Mustaine have to be my biggest influences. The former being the reason why I need to get a job and pick up a bass guitar.

My mother, James Knox Polk, steelicks (at least his sense of humor), and my old ag teacher. haha raineybobunctious we used to call him

Polk? Can you explain to me why you picked a greedy, bloodthirsty, two-faced coward as your role model?

(if offended, feel free to disregard this post as insincere)

There aren't many people in this world that can be followed as model (not even my dad.)... so, I wouldn't consider me a follower of anyone. I appreciate Bono Vox from U2. If hystorical people are allowed, Che Guevara, Mahatma Ghandi and Saladin are good examples to follow.

Posting to say that you are neither the first nor will you be the last to say that... However, you are entitled to your opinion.
