If your game is in english then you're doing it right, but Marill's Shininess don't matter or give you bigger odds of hatching a Shiny.

1. Have you tried Truant Durant + Setup sweeper?
2. Probably relaxed or sassy, it won't outspeed anybody so why not trade it with extra defense?
