Jesus, 88 minutes for that Rayquaza. Thanks anyways

I can answer your second question: Ribbons are kept, so you can win 3rd gen and 6th gen Contests and have all badges
EDIT: Ribbons, not badges. Not sure why I said badges lol

So I was able to breed a Tangela with 30 IVs in Attack and Defense, and I have a 6IV Ditto. What would be the ideal way to get a 31/30/30/31/31/odd Tangela?

Can someone please confirm or deny that a Rayquaza which did not originally know Dragon Ascent (i.e. one who was caught in HG/SS) cannot learn it from the tutor?

Dragon Ascent can be learned by any Rayquaza, regardless if it was caught in OR/AS or not. That's kind of the point of having a Dragon Ascent tutor in the first place.

I don't believe the game-of-origin matters, and any Rayquaza can learn it.

Okay, cool. I had read that it was only for a Rayquaza who had forgotten the move, thus preventing any Rayquaza that wasn't from the Delta Episode or from an event such as the shiny one (with Dragon Ascent) from learning it.

EDIT: Well, the title should of course read ability, pardon my idiocy!

Hey there! I hope this is the correct sub-forum, I really just have a quick and simple question. A beginners question, really. I want to breed a Butterfree for myself, that Butterfree should ideally have Tinted Lense.

Now, when I start breeding Caterpies, how do I know/influence that my Caterpie, after evolving, will become a Butterfree with Tinted Lense? Caterpie gets neither Tinted Lense nor Compound Eyes, so its own ability cannot serve as an indicator, right? Thanks in advance for any answers!

If Caterpie has Run Away (a Hidden Ability), it will have Tinted Lens once it becomes Butterfree.

Response to the bolded part: Wrong.

When Determining what ability a Pokemon will have, you can view it as Ability 1, Ability 2, and Ability 3 with the third one being the Hidden Ability. (For Pokemon that can only have one Non-hidden Ability, Abilities 1 and 2 are effectively the same ability.) Caterpie's Abilities 1 and 2 are both Shield Dust and 3 is Run Away. Even though Metapod has Shed Skin for Abilities 1, 2, and 3 it doesn't change which one it has. That means that a Run Away Caterpie will evolve into a Metapod with Ability 3, which then evolves into a Butterfree with Tinted Lens.

This is just a side note, but this also explains why a Trace Poeygon2 always evolves into an Adaptability Porygon-Z and why a Download one always keeps its ability.

There isn't a specific article on it in the in-game tiers, so I'm curious what the viability of Steelix - specifically, one you can catch at Iron Island without having to evolve from an Onix - would be.

What are the best Pokémon to come out of the Friend Safari (useful Pokémon whose good Hidden Abilities are available only there)? I know of Frogadier and Fletchinder, but what else is there?

Also, do players need to input my FC in order for me to be able to catch their Pokémon (with HAs), or do I just need to input theirs? I understand that they need to be online at the same time as me to get HAs, so do we need each other's FCs in order to see that, or not?

If we're talking about good Hidden Abilities exclusive to Friend Safari, then the Gen 6 Pokémon are mainly what to look for, though there are others worth catching. In addition to Fletch and Frogadier, look for...
Quilladin
Diggersby
Spritzee
Swirlix
Bergmite
Kanto Starters
Butterfree
Wooper/ Quagsire
Piloswine
Smeargle
Bibarel (optional)
Pachirisu (only if you're serious about it)
Riolu
Whirlipede
Lampent (though Flash Fire is typically more useful)
Golett
As for Friend Codes, both players need to input each other's Friend Codes to be counted as fully registered Friends and access each other's Friend Safari. Fully registering Friends is the minimum requisite for getting Friend Safaris, and seeing each other simultaneously on PSS should unlock the chance of finding Hidden Abilities in you and your friend's own Safaris.

It should do fine, it walls half of the elite 4 and is a complete tank while being pretty strong.

Can someone please explain what RU / UU / NU etc mean when looking at pokemon in the Dex, or direct me to a guide. I've never really stepped into the competitive realm now and while I am trying to build a team of pokemon, I am still a bit confused why natures, moves etc change as the format (RU/UU, etc) changes.

Hi There,

Please head over to this thread: http://www.smogon.com/forums/thread...the-op-first-now-with-100-more-rules.3542207/ and read the OP :)

Orange Islands is for ingame Pokemon and nothing Competitive is discussed here. They should be able to help you out in the above thread.

Welcome to Smogon!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask...

Is there anyplace to discuss things like custom Mega Evolutions? Create-a-Pokémon doesn't talk Megas, and there doesn't seem to be a "General Pokémon Discussion" thread or forum...

Not on Smogon. You would have to check out other forums for those sorts of discussions. Smogon only really deals with how the games are and exist, CaP creates it's own Pokemon (including the recent Mega capable Crucibelle) for use in the OU metagame.

Part of the reason is because Smogon was a toddler around Emerald and Orange Island's didn't pick up steam until Gen 5 or so. I'd almost suggest looking elsewhere if you really need Gen3 Battle Frontier advice.

Or start your own thread! Call it "Old Generation Battle Facilities" or something. See if it picks up steam.

Wish I could offer more, but Emerald's battle frontier was pretty big and you almost needed a couple custom teams depending on the facility. So it's hard to recommend a "one size fits all" winner like truant Durant or something.

For my own question, for the Digital Console release of Red/Blue, did they patch the Missingno glitch or keep it in? Just curious if they would keep something like that for nostalgia or patch it out (since it did glitch a minor part of your game).

Edit: I did find this old thread from 2012 (and it's probably locked from new posts, so I'd still recommend starting a new one instead of thread necromancy). Oh, and if you do start a new discussion thread, it would be nice to run it past the OI-mods first, it's just good manners. http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/the-battle-frontier-discussion-thread.3467709/

Not currently known; though that would require changing something about the game itself which so far they have shown no hint of doing at all (trading/battling is simply changing something about the emulator the VC game is run on).
