Unpopular opinions

I believe that every Pokemon has some fans (as we can see from the above). Though we'd be all hard pressed to find fans of Finneon and Lumineon... I only remember them well because they are EXPLICITLY so forgettable

I personally believe we'll never actually reboot the franchise completely. That'll piss a LOT of people off. Black and White were an attempt at it with the whole "No non-Gen V Pokemon before the end of the game". I feel like that will be the closest we ever get to a reboot.

Maractus. Watchog. Pidove.

Because where would Pokemon be without those guys you forgot were Pokemon? And why did you forget them? Because they are completely and totally useless in any context whatsoever.

Do you mean from a competitive standpoint or from a collection standpoint? Because I think the number of people who play pokemon to battle competitively are outnumbered by those who play casually (those who just collect and trade pokemon). From their standpoint they might like the designs which I think has been pokemon's strength and how it beat out other franchises like digimon.

I wouldn't say Watchog is useless; it has some use early-game with Hypnosis/Super Fang. It's creepy as hell though...

It's true there'll always be at least one fan of everything... but you'd be very hard-pressed to find people who liked Watchog. Or even remember Maractus.

Still; the whole thing's redundant and moot - no Pokémon are ever going to be removed and if any were people'd be pissed. Don't think we're gonna get much more out the conversation.

Agreed. Just as a final note I also like Maractus. Looks like I'm in the minority here though. =/

Poor Maractus, Isn't memorable even when we're talking about it. :p

I like Maractus too, though it's pretty forgettable. Being a rare Pokemon available in one area of the game doesn't help its case either.

If it wasn't for its preevolution and how easy it was to miss the first time in RS, Chimecho would be that for me too.

Seconded. Unfeazant looks badass but has that shit movepool. And Patrat...again, if you're going to make a Pidgey/Ratatta clone and not allow people to use Pidgey/Ratatta, it helps for the clone to also have a movepool.

Excuse me but maractus is a disk one nuke in B/W it's one of those hard to get Pokémon that it's worth its weight if you do use it.
 
If Nintendo ever got the opportunity to remove two Pokémon, they'd remove Raichu twice. It overshadows the franchise mascot, and for gameplay purposes reduces it into a transitional stage. It makes Pikachu the weaker option in its evolutionary family (though Light Ball is a pretty obvious attempt to remedy that). It prevents Pikachu from getting Mega Evolutions under the current lore and mechanics (because you know they'd give Pikachu multiple ones if the option was available for it). Whenever they try to do something unique to Pikachu, they have to manually add a mechanic that prevents it from evolving into Raichu. As long as Raichu exists, we will always have in mind that Pikachu is not the peak of its evolutionary family.

I'm a fan of Raichu and like it better than Pikachu, so I'd be really sad to see it go (not that I think it will), but it seems pretty obvious that Game Freak regrets the decision to give Pikachu an evolution.

You sure they wouldn't also remove Pichu too? :P

Joking aside, hopefully maybe a Mega Raichu (or two, come on being the evolution of the series mascot must give it some benefit even if its loathed by GF and the Pokemon Company) would put a more positive light on Raichu. Like we had the Spiky Eared Pichu, now we had Cosplay Pikachu, next up is Raichu and they have a very easy place to go to with it.

Just saying... the Jynx Club on deviantArt has more than 100 members.... so maybe finding fans for Watchog isn't as difficult as you imagine.
Dunsparce has a rather big fan-listing site too.

Trust me, if we could get rid of baby Pokémon I would rejoice hard, breeding a 4iv hp ice, HA, Naive volt tackle Pikachu took me almost a month.

Raichu is a decent Pokémon to be honest, and as much as I genuinely like Pikachu and was traumatized into disliked Pichu after breeding I just simply love Raichu design, the tail the hind legs, it's a big rat with trex hands dude it's freaking cute to be honest.

I always liked Raichu more than Pikachu.
I think Raichu is really cute for a final Pokemon, it's even cute compared to average Pokemon.
 
Raichu will always be superior to Pikachu in my opinion. I was even going to use one in my nuzlocke before it died, RIP Ashley.

The only one that doesn't look overdone is the first one, I mean gold is overused for what used to be orange and brown but the Pokémon looks like an actual improved Raichu... The other 3 are terrible especially the last one trying to make him look like ampharos or dragonair.

I mean a 2 tailed rat isn't out of folklore, I mean cats can have up to 7 tails in the myths, but those Damm orbs or neck pieces make it look so goddamed overdone it looks more like a costume Pikachu would wear than a Raichu.

Seriously, though, having actual Ice coverage would be really freaking cool.
 
Just wanted to add some quick opinions of my own for the ongoing discussion (which has almost ended by this point anyway... sigh).

I like the Unova Monkeys. I like Finneon and Lumineon. I also like Watchog and Pidove.

Then there's Maractus. I used one on my in-game team in Black 2 and was surprised by how... good it was. It doesn't have the best movepool but it doesn't really need it either. STAB Giga Drain and Synthesis allows it to survive forever, Water Absorb was a great ability which gave it an immunity and allowed it to team up with my Jellicent to take Surfs and recover even more HP. Admittedly it was a bit lacking in coverage but I used Sucker Punch as the final move and that was enough to make it function.

TL;DR: Maractus is awesome and should not be underestimated.
