Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow to be re-released for the 3DS Virtual Console

The good news is that the glitches are still present in RBY; I have personally managed to test and confirm the Instant Text Trick (saying no to the Bike Shop owner allows instant text until the next time you open the menu or switch Pokémon in battle) and the Mew Glitch via the early Cerulean method (need more Poké Balls to catch that thing though).

Yeah someone posted about this already but consider this personal confirmation of those two at least and by extension, the other glitches in the game.

Oh yeah, uh; according to serebii
RBY's out in europe
So I'm gonna go get that because the whole transfer up thing has made me think this is worth the money. Rest of you brits do the same

By the way; Double Post but as far as I can tell, you can't transfer from RBY to Bank yet.

Since the RBY transfer is only going to work for Sun/Moon, I doubt they'll patch bank until the end of the year, around when the games come out.

True; though it'd be nice to have somewhere to put your team once you've finished the game and want to start a new file.

On another topic, as I said in the Sun/Moon thread, http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/pokemon-that-lost-their-moves.3525353/ should now be a somewhat helpful resource for figuring out Gen 1 exclusive moves!

He means RNG manipulation.
I'll put this in terms you can understand: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SarcasmBlind

Anyway, I'm really excited to replay Yellow. It was always one of my favorites, but I haven't been able to play in the last few years because the internal batteries on both my carts have died. (I'm not motivated enough to fix them.) Being able to transfer to the new games rekindled my interest in the VC ports.

Copypasta from the Sun/Moon thread, because I'm in the mood to squish dreams.
Just because I won't have a Fissure No Guard Machamp with perfect IVs doesn't squash my dreams. I'm just happy it will exist period as I've been wanting it for a while now.

Really debating on how I want to go about the games. Probably going to keep one for "competitive", one for challenges and then the other will be for completion. I am hoping they do run a couple side events at the VGC for Gen 1. Obviously Mew and Mewtwo would be banned. Could create something fun.

Someone remind me if you could catch all 151 pokemon with only Yellow version. I'm trying to decide between Yellow and Red versions, but I'm not sure whether to go with the "middle version" or the version with the Missingno glitch. Also, does the Mew Glitch still work in Red (We know it works in Yellow already)

Why not Blue? Because I have an actual cartridge of that.

There are certain Pokémon you can't get in Yellow - mostly noted as the ones that Ash wouldn't really ever have. Raichu because he never evolves Pikachu (the pikachu in-game actually refuses), Weedle because he failed to catch it, and the families of Meowth, Koffing and Ekans because those are Team Rocket's Pokémon.

Alright, it looks like I'll be grabbing Red then. Missingno Glitch is a go.

The reason why Level 1 Pokemon aren't supposed to be in these games is because of a programming thing. Basically if you do any variation of the Trainer Escape glitch, use growl on the Pokemon that you want its special stat (in this case Shellder in Misty's gym, Slowpoke, etc) 6 times and then when you encounter Mew or whatever it should be a level 1. Have it gain any EXP and you have a level 100 pokemon. Really complicated to explain.

I didn't know that you have the Mew Glitch give you a level 1 Mew, though I did know about the EXP underflow (in fact, I explained this to someone yesterday!).

Luckily I read up on the glitch in prep for these. Rocking two level 100 pokemon is fun. If I had the time and patience I could have had a few level 100 pokemon but meh.

I wasn't really planning on getting any of these games until the announcement of S&M, now I am seriously thinking about it. As I have never played any of the first gen games, I was wondering witch one was "the best" to get( at this time I am planning on getting one game)?
Also wondering if anyone was going to make a " glitch list"... Not sure if it falls under the no hack talk on the site or not?
Any and all thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Don't forget to occasionally box them to recalculate your stats thanks to Stat Exp (the precursor to EVs)!

Personally, I like Yellow the best since by the time you beat Lt. Surge, you have all three Kanto starters. And that is awesome.
Also, another pro tip: keep Razor Leaf on Venusaur. Due to how crits are calculated (the faster you are, the more likely the crit), Razor Leaf crits 255/266 of the time, meaning you have an effective base power of 110. It is awesome.
