[DONE] KANTO CLASSIC: Post your results!

Just finished my matches for today, most were under 20 minutes. Came across 2 stall players both from Japan. I counter stalled the crap out of them and spammed OHKO moves and timer stalled, dragging the match out over 30 minutes both until they both forfeited. They could dish it out but they couldn't take it. I think I ruined the day for those two players haha. I love how the cartridge imposes an overall time limit on the match, it can really limit stall if you're willing to be patient.

I wanted to mention that I did face an American Zapdos with Static ability.

I'm only aware of Japan having the HA Bird Trio.

I do have that but its Bold, so you won't be outspeeding Nidoking with it, just a warning!
I play it Bold, to survive an EQ from a Dugtrio who trapped me :)
Is your giveaway still provided ?

It's possible to have an English Named Zapdos with Static if you have a Japanese/PAL system set to English language and you redeem the code on your system. The more likely possibility though is that your opponent is a cheater who genned the Zapdos considering the event has only been out for a few days and I doubt anyone has had the time to soft reset a Zapdos with favorable nature and stats.

His team seemed untrained and noncompetitive. Oh and pretty shiny. I know shiny is not necessarily a hack either.

So I had one opponent come at me with 5 level 30 mons, two of which were a Rhyhorn and a Wartortle, and his only level 50 was a Dragonite.

Like.....why? .____.

I'll never have a 6-0 sweep with a rocks Clefable ever again...

I had a battle like this too. Same person? xD

8-2 Here. Lost one because I had a brain fart and forgot Gengar could learn Destiny Bond, thus losing my win condition and the other against a team exactly like mine, except for a Jolteon instead of Magneton. He hit the Fissures and the Sleep Powders, I didn't. GG.

Sorry for being a bit impatient but I really need a Bold Tentacool with Haze and Rapid Spin :/ I want to start my match asap since I have a busy week-end :(

I don't want to look like a begger but, anyone with leftover egg hatched pokemon that I could use? doesnt matter if they're not 4-5IV as long as they're right natured and some egg moves, I can EV and EXP train them all the way :P it's just that I bought my 3DS just 2 weeks ago and didnt have a chance to really breed and stuff, just finished my story hehe

Did he have an Arcanine and an Exeggutor? I feel bad because I imagine that this was obviously a mistake on his end due to his Arcanine having a standard Willo set. Poor guy :/ This is why you triple check your teams before you go in to an online competition that locks your battle box.

Also, I've faced people who simply use the event Dragonite that has Hurricane. I swear I almost lost to confusion hax from that thing 0-0

I thought the competition sets pokemon to level 50?

Anyways, I went 8-0 so far...I don't feel like playing my last two matches today, and not sure I'll continue. My goal was to get over 1600, and I did. That's where things start to get real, and I really don't want to go up against OHKO players and the people who are super-competitive.

I already came across someone who tried to get a freeze hax on me when they were losing (using ice beam on one of my mons repeatedly even though it dealt little to no damage and wasn't a STAB move...oh, and they had other moves they could have used; I switched into a mon with Scald in case they got the freeze to prevent that). I know there are scald burns (heck, I go for them sometimes, myself, if I'm not packing WoW) and poisons...but to purposely go for a freeze hax is kinda cheap, IMO.

Though, I am having fun, I'll admit (then again, I haven't been up against any OHKO players yet). I wish they'd have more competitions in 6v6 format...only with a no OHKO rule. I'd play more of this competition if I didn't know for a fact that I'll be up against OHKOers (and perhaps timer stallers) as I go higher.

Welp, my first match wasn't too much fun...I pretty much cleaned out their team with my stealth rocks Clefable (nup, wasn't the level 30 team XD ) and Raichu (who has actually been a huge help; Jolteon could do all the things Raichu does, but I like Raichu better than Jolteon and I just wanted to use my favorite Gen I mons). After that, I got a share of relaxing matches and challenging ones (more of the latter, as only two people didn't really know what they were doing).
Also came across a team with Butterfree on it...I thought it was pretty cool (even though they weren't able to do much to me with it because I put Venusaur on my team).

The damn thing to me is that I didn't find the TM 90 (substitute) yet... T__T

This TM appears by lucky daily on mirage islands... Why game freak? WHY?

It is restricted to level 50, yes, but only when you have a Pokemon ABOVE level 50 does it reset it back down. If you use anything lower than level 50, you're going in with that level.

I have only battled 4 Japanese players, which is rare for me.

I was starting to wonder if Japan was the land that never sleeps.

I commonly fight them at 4am Tokyo time on a Tuesday so no, they don't sleep. Can confirm. Also highly active during school days during school hours, and they don't seem to have jobs either.
Pokemon habits indicate that Japan the exact opposite of Japan. I don't see Germans, Frenchmen, and Brits at 4am GMT+1, at least the Europeans sleep. :P

Will be entering a joke team into the competition shortly, I have a bunch of random shit laying around so YOLO. We're coinflipping between my legendary Arbok and a Muk; neither of which should ever be used.

I'm 9-1 after day 1. I got destroyed by wild charge rapidash which I was not expecting at all combined with a bunch of 3 turn sleeps, but other than that, it's been quite fun to finally have a singles competition. I actually took a 20 hour break in between my first 5 and last 5 battles to so I wouldn't get impatient and make dumb mistakes which tends to happen when I play a lot of long battles in succession, but so far I haven't seen any serious stall teams, but then again, I had a few 5 minute battles which definitely aren't going to happen on day 2-3, so I suspect it will take longer, but hopefully no 60 minute battles. Dragonite, Gengar, Venusaur and Snorlax were my most common opponents and there also seems to be more opposing taunts. However, it's still lots of fun as always.

Ok my report from Day 1.
Im surprised how some japaneses players use common pokemons with different movesets from what we have seen in showdown. There was one japanese using Focus Punch Gengar, maybe to hit snorlax in a switch (he had like 1580 points). Here are the top usage percentage from my first 10 battles.

Dragonite - 50% (many DD, Iron head)
Alakazan - 50% (Many with substitute, recover, toxic)
Jolteon - 30% (with toxic, Baton pass)
Slowbro - 30% (the same defensive wall, battled one with yawn)
Kangaskhan - 30% (all the three with low kick, maybe to counter snorlax. All from japanese teams)
Zapdos - 30% (some bulky, other Sp atkers. One had HP Psychic, generally 3 support/stall moves with Thunderbolt. None used Volt Switch)
Nidoking - 30% (one mixed, other full sp.atk and other full physical atk)
Vaporeon - 30% (wish, toxic, heal bell)

The worst Pokémon I faced was Vaporeon. My team really does not have a water counter.

In my only day 1 loss I had used Hitmonchan as my lead. I switched in this game thinking I could Taunt his Stealth Rock user and setup my own rocks with Aerodactyl. My opponent led with Magneton. I assumed he thought I would switch in my Nidoking, so I went for SR. He still went with Thunderbolt.

That is what I get for thinking. haha

Good news everyone!
Arbok won the coinflip, so she'll be spewing misery and despair at all who exist; I apologize in advance if I match up with anyone from Smogon.
The other dorks in the drawing pool included, but were not limited to: Magmar, Jolteon, Vaporeon**, Flareon, Nidoqueen, Moltres, Slowbro, Arcanine, Golem, Tauros*, Venomoth, Venusaur, Dragonite*, Arcanine*, Alakazam*** Blastoise, and others!
* 2 or more variants
** Also includes an effectively useless Hydration one
*** 4+ sets and/or EV spreads. Flame Orb Trick Zammy sadly is not viable here and was removed from the box. :<

Will post team afterwards, including hilarious battle videos / etc if I get any.
Fuk al ur srs teemz.
Well I mean they have the largest playerbase by far so there's bound to be a few nightowls at any given time.

Dude they outnumber English-speaking regions at 4am Japan time, it is not "a few nightowls". :P
Oh well, I've been kicking their asses just as much as everyone else so it doesn't matter that much.

Japanese players like odd movesets; Battle Spot is best-of-1 so shock sets and surprise moves are can really swing things. Always expect weird shit and unnaturally high luck / rating when facing a JP player, that's my advice.
As for Focus Punch Gengar, that was always a really bad idea but SubPunch Gengar can definetly hammer it since WoW is largely useless thanks to Rest:

0 Atk Gengar Focus Punch vs. 0 HP / 100 Def Snorlax: 100-118 (42.5 - 50.2%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO (Most Snorlax should be running more physical bulk than that)
Rest talk has a 2/3rds chance of doing literally nothing against Gengar so you can setup Subs and spam Focus Punch while it figures out wtf is happening.

Everyone's having fun while I'm still training my pokemon *sigh* Would anyone happen to have a modest magnemite/ton spitback lying around? I just realized the only magnemite I had has no good IVs at all so I could use a little help if someone's kind enough.

Btw I'm gonna try a slightly bulkier Alakazam spread which can both outspeed Gengar and survive a Stone Edge from Machamp. Is there any other threat in the speed tiers I should be worried about? Can only think about starmie but it doesn't really threat alaka in any way.
