Gen VII: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New info Post #5834)

I was discussing this theory with a friend, but does anyone think the symbol on Litten's head is a reference to the Leviathan Cross? "Fire and brimstone"?
I had to look it up but if you imagine the eyes as an infinite symbol then there is a passing resemblance. Besides satanism and demonology, it is the alchemic symbol of sulfur.

I guess we'll have to see what it looks like in its evolution's.

It gets Dragonbreath (breeding), Dragon Claw (TM), Outrage (tutor), Dragon Pulse (tutor) - probably forgetting one. Still not "OP" though.

peaswar There's zero reason to triple post. Just edit your post, make a divider between new ideas or an intended paragraph or use [hide][/hide] or

to separate them. I see zero correlation between the latter half of your first post. It's grasping at straws at best:

This comes from what exactly? Pokemon is one of their top earners regardless of their perceived economical strife or not it's a bread winner and irrelevant to mention in terms of the games mechanics themselves. I wouldn't call that a similarity worth noting in terms of 'speculation'.

While the permanent moving sprites are notable, kind of, BW and BW2 brought more significant improvements that are still relevant to Gen 6's improvements/overhaul such as, enhanced 2.5D and rotational top down views of bigger structures, camera zooming in and out of certain areas drastically and more fleshed out cutscenes rather than the small pop-ups like FR/LG or the quick blip for HG/SS. "Rare spots" became a thing, shaking patches/rippling spots/bridge shadows and dust clouds. Hidden Abilities.

The list of grass-types being "liked" or "disliked" - some of it is factually wrong and you forgot M-Venusaur as it was (and still is in some cases) relevant competitively and in-game. M-Sceptile is certainly not "OP".

Edit: English, still hard.
I mean that both were released to help sales of that product

In the event this hasn't been brought up before, there's names and silhouettes for 3D models - 0:00:19 into the Japanese trailer (above the chalkboard). They could be characters, customization options or absolutely nothing of importance. I don't know, but those who like speculating can have fun with the tidbit if you so choose.

If it was brought up already then I apologize.

nerd - the silhouettes resemble 3D models, that could be found in game. Which was my point. There's 'classwork' present everywhere else in the room, those model silhouettes are out of place and I did state "or they could be absolutely nothing".

Edit2: I'm well aware of the notion towards displaying work in class + name and while I'll give you the "currently studying perspectives" thing as I have no qualms with that fact. However, that's not at all why I found them out of place and they don't all show two (or similar to being a second) perspective. I see your point and I respect it, but I did preface my post with, "They could be characters, customization options or absolutely nothing of importance." It's not any more outlandish than what is currently being speculated. You are of the opinion that it is absolutely nothing, others may not be - that's why I posted it.

It's a classroom. It's probably just student work/an art project and those are probably the students' names... There's absolutely no reason they would randomly insert game-related stuff in that particular scene.

@ above edit: I don't see them as out of place. Based on the other classroom materials, they're doing a unit on perspective. Each of the silhouettes is likely just the silhouette of a student as a means of illustrating the concept. You typically display student artwork with their names in order to create a more personal classroom environment. I still think seeing that as anything game related is a huge stretch.

Hm.

Litten - My pick. I'm curious where its design will go. Especially since it's the first three stage cat Pokémon. Based on clues, I'm betting on a Hellcat. As a rival of sorts to Houndoom. Either part Dark, Rock, or Poison. I really hope it's Poison.

Rowlet - Cute. I see a scholarly Owl design. I see the Grass bow tie becoming more prominent, and the fur/feathers around its eyes forming a shape similar to oversized eyeglasses. Complete with the long jacket of feathers. Maybe part of its final form's design will incorporate a top hat somewhere. I also see it carrying a large feather/grass quill pen as a weapon.

Popplio - Honestly, I feel this was a rejected Mario game enemy. I don't dislike it. It just seems bizarrely out of place, somehow. I think it'll have the most interesting evolutionary line.

No matter what, I'm sure they'll be better than Unova's mess of starters.

And I decided on Moon when the games were announced, as it sounded more mysterious, and had more interesting design potential. I was spot on.

I was thinking, with this being hyped as the big anniversary game, I hope they connect these games with other gens. Other than Zekrom and Reshiram, I really believe they could cleverly connect Solgaleo and Lunaala to all the past cover legends. Ho-Oh/Lugia - Sun/Moon, Groudon/Kyogre - Sun/Moon (water and the moon), Dialga/Palkia - This one is just easy, Xerneas/Yveltal - Xerneas for the moon and fairies. Yveltal....eh? There are even bonuses in Darkrai, Cresselia, and a couple other critters.

That, or this will just be the largest region by a long shot as a way to give long time fans a lengthy adventure.

Easter Eggs. I don't know whether these things are hints, or whether they're even relevant, of course, but I would not be surprised in the slightest if they were. They certainly did things like this for the Super Bowl commercial, so there's no reason to say they wouldn't here. It's speculation, nothing more at this point, but there is some precedence of hiding easter eggs in plain sight.

In fact, the entire premise of the Japanese commercial could very well spell out what the basic plot of the story is already. You have a Japanese kid - who's basically the foil that the target audience is supposed to relate to, much like the player characters - moving to the new and unfamiliar and exciting world that is Hawaii, and finding his place there. I wouldn't underestimate Game Freak's subtlety, here.

It could be something, but you guys are really grasping at straws with some of this speculation. See:
Well, Hoku is a straight up Hawaiian associated name. This can't be a coincidence.

Hell, it's the name of the daughter of Don Ho, the famous musician from Hawaii.
This is a classroom in Hawaii. It's logical that one of the Hawaiian kids in the Hawaiian classroom would have a Hawaiian name.

Well I think I find another thing which explains why people don't like Popplio: no one knows what it is.

*Sees a comment of it being a seal* It's a sea lion. *sees 10 comments of it being a seal* It is a sea lion, where do you think the "lio" part comes from. *sees 100th comment of it being a seal* IT'S A SEA LION! Specifically based on ones trained by circuses to balance balls on its nose and used to wear a frill around their necks (who were called "circus seals" and sometimes drawn as seals though this is a mistake as seals aren't very mobile out of water while sea lions are since their back flippers have adapted to be like a second pair of short legs).

Sorry if I sound unusually annoyed about this rather admittedly small nitpick. Sea lions are one of my favorite sea animals, when me and my brother were young my family used to go to the Queen's Zoo which had a sea lion enclosure and if you get their around feeding time the zookeepers will have them do tricks like leaping out the water, flips, roll, and balancing a ball on their nose (and no it wasn't cruel, they were always fed (even the ones that didn't perform) and it was probably good exercise for them). They didn't wear frills but I learned that from cartoons (specifically one from a Tom & Jerry cartoon. However more recently Madagascar 3 had a circus sea lion character who wore a frill). So it's kind of annoying to see people call it a seal, especially those few who call it a seal/dog (and those have a name: SEA LION).

It took me a bit of thinking until I realized why Popplio threw me off when I first saw it. No, it has nothing to do with its figure. I like it a lot actually, and it looks cute (its nose does remind me of Drillbur, to be honest). No, what threw me off was its shade of color. Sure Popplio is blue like all the Water-type starters before it, but it was never to that level of solid blue. Take a look at all the previous Water starters in their primary evolutionary stage, and you'll notice how they're all a light shade of blue. Popplio, in contrast, is a relatively much darker shade of blue save for Piplup, yet even Piplup has a lighter shade of blue for its torso and wings. Popplio is covered all over with that solidly blue hue, which is just highly unusual for a first-stage Water Starter. It might be something worth considering when speculating Popplio's evolutions, or maybe it's nothing aside from a visual quirk I'll inevitably get used to by the time Sun & Moon are released.

Pikachu, when ever we need to celebrate on this forum, please post that. Even if it has nothing to do with Machoke. Someone's birthday*? Machoke Movers. Someone's getting married? Machoke Movers. Team Four Star finally answers "Wen Broly?" with "Now"? Machoke Movers. Aron gets Bullet Punch at level 1, causing it to be the best FEAR user in the game? Machoke Movers. I finally take over the galaxy and you are now under my protection? MACHOKE. MOVERS.

You know what, I think you might be on to something. Also, this combines with the fact that Popplio's elemental color is far more prevalent than on Rowlet and Litten.

Quick question: is anyone else finding it difficult to remember Popplio's name? Rowlet I learned very quickly** and Litten wasn't too hard either. But Popplio is just not wanting to enter. Eventually, I'll learn it, but it's just oddly difficult.

* Saturday for instance...
**Not surprising since Rowlet is my favorite Pokémon.
ALL GLORY TO THE ROWLET!

I always get that for every new Pokémon. By the time I'd finished the trailer I had no idea what any of the starters were called.

CoroCoro is complete shit for pulling this twice. I don't care that we got substantial news from TPCi directly, the fact that CoroCoro had the gall to promise info, not deliver on it, and then proceed to call itself the main source of Pokémon news is a whole new level of dickery and arrogance.

At this point given Game Freak's snubbing of CoroCoro, who really cares about them now? They most likely won't show anything new for the rest of the months before the release assuming GF/TCPI keep releasing new videos before CoroCoro's expected leaking so yeah, not surprised in the slightest. *Tosses CoroCoro into the same bin as Pokémon Sunday/Get TV/Whatever they are supposed to be called now*

As for my views on the new content a couple of days ago, I was pretty much drawn to Team Popplio the moment I saw it. It's just really cute though I have been drawn to SEA LIONS in general (I really liked Seel) and the image on Pokemon.com showing Popplio's manoeuvres really cemented this. Rowlet is okay I guess, I like it but Popplio just blew me away. Litten I do not have any real care for; if it becomes some glorious tiger in its final form I might pay attention to it, but it's just unexciting.

Sun Legend I expected to be a Lion with a Fire-type signature from the moment I saw that "Solgaleo" trademark; Leo derives from the Western Zodiac sign: Leo, Leo's element is Fire, and Leo's ruling planet is the Sun. I do not know what the hell Moon Legend "Lunaala" is supposed to be though, but it does not look like it has Western Zodiac patterns unlike what "Solgaleo" has though.

Hawaii-like region I am okay with given the whole island-hopping aspect which I feel would work, but I still see they have thrown in the same old; last night on #oi I went on a bit of a rant about my ideal overworld (basically open world-like replacing routes) for these games and island hopping being a great fit for it (though given technical limitations, such would probably not be possible at the moment). Lower camera angles and the removal of grids are great though, signalling a shift towards a game where the camera follows you around and probably what I envision for the future and I am okay with this.

Good that character customisation is back though; would be a waste to limit it to one pair of games.
