I always found the Treeko line to be boring until Mega Sceptile came out. And speaking of which, while I like Torchic, I never liked Blaziken either until Mega Blaziken made every single cosmetic change that was required. Still don't like using High Jump Kick, though. The Mudkip line I've always liked, though. I think Swampert's cool and there hasn't been a Water/Ground-type that I don't like yet.
Here's a new opinion: I prefer Megas to new Evolutions in general. Why? Well, there's a simple reason:
Eviolite.
Some Pokémon, if they were to be given a new Evolution would outshine their evolved forms when given an Eviolite. For example, look at Dunsparse. It has a fairly solid movepool (it learns Roost through level up!) and then there's it's base defenses: 100/70/65. With Eviolite, it would be a good defensive 'mon with a good chance of completely overshadowing it, like Dusclops does to Dusknoir. And while 70/65 attacking stats aren't great, but that bulk, combined with Serene Grace and a great movepool? Yeah, it likely would overshadow the poor evolution. A Mega, on the other hand, would get the attention and yet Dunsparce would still be used. It's win-win in this case.
