Now that I think about it, it probably isn't a core, since Zygarde's core did not make it to the Dex images. It is peculiar that the prevo is not placed before their final forms, though.

I think the catchable/uncatchable debate is more about obtainable/unobtainable. As in not whether or not the UB will even be usable in battle, traded, stored in the PC, etc.
I guess. But that seems pretty farfetch'd for gf. I would probably have to agree that if the UB's have shiny's, then they are in fact considered Pokemon and will be obtainable at some point, Mythical or not. I also think the shire number of UB sprites would indicate that they are real pokemon and obtainable. I could see them as "bosses" if there were maybe 1-3 of them. But 9? It also goes against their motto of "gotta catch'em all", to include monster's, pokemon or not, that you can't actually obtain (mythical accessibility aside).

Things to note about the images found in the demo:
  • All forms are shown (this includes gender differences).
  • Alolan Rattata/Raticate and Raichu do not have gender differences, unlike their Kanto counterparts.
  • Ash-Pikachu appears to be male-locked.
  • Cosplay Pikachu is gone.
  • Even if it's a Poké Ride, Charizard is not part of the Alolan dex.
  • Rotom is also not part of the dex o.O
  • Alolan dex appears to have 294 Pokémon (which is smaller than the Kalos dex), plus 8 Ultra Beasts.
  • Raticate, Gumshoos, Vikavolt, Lurantis, Salandit's evo, Kommo-o, Zygarde (?) and Mimikyu (?) may be Totem Pokémon.

I read somewhere that Steel resists Dark again... is there any way to confirm this?

I know the Pokémon that are not in the demo do not have their stats and typing, but I guess that the type itself is programmed

Anyone else getting the impression of another fire fighting starter?

I will miss Cosplay Pikachu. It was cute and nice to have

So....If this were pics of the dex shouldn't be complete with ALL Pokemon? Afterall it's required.
Then I thought about UB's...If they're a challenge like it was the Pokestar ones, it could be that they instantiated them as Pokemon and that required a shiny sprite as well. So for me this doesn't confirm them as Pokemon.

And these assets are really the ones for the dex? They don't look 2-D as the ones we saw. And Yungoose was different, wasn't it? I need a comparison image.

I'm happy that Salandit gets an evolution. More bulk for the anti-stall Pokemon of the year :)
Also, some UB look terrifying, like there's something really wrong with them. I'm really interested in what's the story behind them in the game and where they're from.

The T-wave nerf is awesome. I wish they reduced the chance of paralysis but oh well...

Well, remember the Pokestar Studios opponents? They have all the traits of a Pokemon, but aren't considered as such. They have abilities, moves, stats and whatnot. Just because the UB have shiny models doesn't mean they will be considered Pokemon, nor does it imply that they will obtainable for that matter. The reason why these stuff have similar data structures as Pokemon is probably simply because there is no reason for GF to make another kind of "monster data" when the normal Pokemon template works so well. I am skeptical about the UB's obtainability simply because they aren't marketed as Pokemon to begin with.

Wait, where are some of this info from? About the Totem Pokemon in particular. Rotom, though, is the Dex itself. I suppose it doesn't want you to find out about other Rotom.

In the midst of all these datamine questions, allow me to share a story from the early days of X and Y's release:

Datamining was not possible on the 3DS then, so people with early copies of the game ran around in search of as many Pokémon as possible, and they were posted in various places all over the Internet. For the longest time, we're talking DAYS, a rumour persisted that the third legendary in Xerneas and Yveltal's trio was an ice wolf of sorts, met in the Sea Spirit's Den, Glittering Cave or Chamber of Emptiness at some point. Various people swore they had seen the ice wolf, others just took for granted that it existed, and even with every Pokémon fan in the world glued to their screens, it took a shockingly long time to debunk.

Rumours like these thrive in conditions where few people can check their accuracy, and when people keep feeling "Is this it? There has to be more." XY had an unprecedented low amount of new Pokémon, and now it seems SuMo is following the same footsteps. Please don't spread rumours, on Smogon or elsewhere (on Smogon we mods can clean it up, but elsewhere we can just urge you to use common sense and etiquette). Keep in mind that if you ask for more, people may post rumours just to troll you. When there is more, it will soon be available everywhere, so just be patient. The apparent holes in the Pokédex, the apparent mismatch in the given numbers of new Pokémon, and a fanbase hungry for more information... those are every hoaxer's dream.
