In regards to the Seattle game id like to think that they were still adjusting after trading away Jamie Collins.Just remember what we looked like the Seahawks if you've forgotten how little talent we have. We can't cover tight ends and running backs and our coverage on wideouts depend massively on the scheme called fluctuating between good and bad. Our Run Defense is good but it's entirely because of the linebackers and our DLine is sporadic and has shown flashes of decent play but always against bad offensive lines. As an engine our DLine doesn't have the horsepower to generate any pressure on their own against more solid lines which strains our coverage at all levels. It's a well coached defense so we're rarely gashed for but we definitely lose to death by a thousand cuts. If the Steelers weren't the Steelers their offense would blow us out of the water. Frankly any legitimately good running game will crush us because to stop the chains from moving on the ground we'll pull resources from the backend and give up big plays through the air.
Tl;dr our defense is built to look good against bad teams but isn't actually good.
Since then Van Noy has come in and has been a viable replacement, and Trey Flowers has actually been a pretty good pass rushing threat. That combined with the improved run defense and great secondary play (Butler is a legit top 5 corner this season) gives me faith that they're actually a good defense.
They definitely have that Ravens level overrated vibe (playing a ton of bad offenses), but as long as they can be a top 10ish unit that holds opponents to 20 points they should be solid because that's all Brady needs.
Especially if the Pats have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.
