The Everything NFL Thread - 2016-17 Season

Just remember what we looked like the Seahawks if you've forgotten how little talent we have. We can't cover tight ends and running backs and our coverage on wideouts depend massively on the scheme called fluctuating between good and bad. Our Run Defense is good but it's entirely because of the linebackers and our DLine is sporadic and has shown flashes of decent play but always against bad offensive lines. As an engine our DLine doesn't have the horsepower to generate any pressure on their own against more solid lines which strains our coverage at all levels. It's a well coached defense so we're rarely gashed for but we definitely lose to death by a thousand cuts. If the Steelers weren't the Steelers their offense would blow us out of the water. Frankly any legitimately good running game will crush us because to stop the chains from moving on the ground we'll pull resources from the backend and give up big plays through the air.

Tl;dr our defense is built to look good against bad teams but isn't actually good.
In regards to the Seattle game id like to think that they were still adjusting after trading away Jamie Collins.

Since then Van Noy has come in and has been a viable replacement, and Trey Flowers has actually been a pretty good pass rushing threat. That combined with the improved run defense and great secondary play (Butler is a legit top 5 corner this season) gives me faith that they're actually a good defense.

They definitely have that Ravens level overrated vibe (playing a ton of bad offenses), but as long as they can be a top 10ish unit that holds opponents to 20 points they should be solid because that's all Brady needs.

Especially if the Pats have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.

Malcolm Butler is not a top 5 CB this year

Pats defense is same business as the past lil while, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Classic Belichick coaching puts all the players in positions to succeed. They'll keep the points allowed pretty low

I think he's good, but I have him closer to 10. There's been a lot of good corner play this year imo.

There's several I believe have been clocking better than him, but he should be a top ten

How is that preferable really? It's not exactly hard to play in Dallas, I think they have one of the weakest homefield advantages

It's preferable because it means more chances for them to lose.

In other news, Washington allowed Carolina to drag them down with them, pretty mmuch out the playoff race.

Watching that Carolina Washington game made me want desean Jackson to be a Panther next year soooooo bad. Him plus the Panthers defense not being entirely inept could make that team so ridiculously fucking good.

I think the Eagles are going to snatch him up (hopefully.)

just wanted to point out that Julio Jones still leads the NFL in receiving yards despite playing 2 fewer games than anyone else in the top 12

thanks

The giants have compromised "the integrity of the game" 3 times this season and basically nothing has happened to them

The organization needs to be docked multiple draft picks but their damn owner has favored child status with Goodell.

The hypocrisy of the NFL and the fans that turn a blind eye to every incident that doesn't involve the Patriots is exposed more and more each week.

And the NFL gets away with it because they know fans/the media are too stupid to actually call them out on said hypocrisy due to their Pats hatred.

I just like to say the Steelers will be hard to beat. They are one of the only teams that can beat everyone. If they can play good for 4 straight games in the playoffs, they will win the Super Bowl. Their defense is coming around and is only really bad because of penalties. So they are a scary team, look out.

Have you SEEN LeVeon Bell and Antonio Brown? How could you not want to watch football games where they're playing great.

Why are the Steelers overrated by every single person in this thread?

Because they have legitimate great players. The team itself isn't great but they have a great qb/wr/rb combo so they assume they're unstoppable on O(they aren't) and that suddenly that defense is good(it isn't). So they put two and two together and they come up with a great team. But then they get blown out and they wonder why. The Steelers have a potentially great O, and that's it. Of course, that makes them dangerous any game but they're definitely the most overrated team in the league. You always hear how they're sb contenders but they're no better than any other team with a dangerous O.

What? Do you consider my hot garbage takes to be my opinions on the giants? You can't really be objective about them so you're in your own little bubble and can't realize i only have good takes.

The steelers get blown out like once a decade dude get real. the offense is more than just the triplets too, the offensive line has been having their best year in a while and is probably half the reason the triplets are so successful. the defense is still not great, but it's not total ass either. the biggest problem with Pittsburgh is that they put up way too many head scratching duds. this ultimately falls on coaching, and Tomlin is notorious for being a players' coach and fails to adequately prepare them week in and week out. they play to the level of their competition, so they'll show up against the good teams (see: Cowboys, chefs, giants) but they'll sleep on the bad teams (see: eagles, lolphins). actually, they managed to get through this year without dropping any truly awful ones, but they still do that way too much. as much as it pains me to say, if you took John harbaugh and had him coach the steelers they would win multiple super bowls with that team.

So, tl;dr version the steelers TEAM deserves the respect, but the coaching holds them back from their true potential

But to be honest as long as i'm not talking about the giants, my posts provide very good insight because i actually know more about football than any of you. When i talk about them my emotional side of the brain can't let me think straight. Which is why i basically have two styles of posts.

Hey all! Got a recommendation to pop on over to this forum and give some love to the Titans, who I'm told have not had any representation as of yet! If I can suffer through almost two decades of disappointment, I might as well talk them up when they're kinda okay.

I must confess, I am looking straight ahead to their season-ending showdown with Houston in week 17, the winner of which might take the division. It's a good thing I don't play for the Titans though, because I can afford to disregard the Jacksonville game, which has trap game written all over it. Fired coach, comeback loss against the Texans, and the chance to eliminate a division rival? It's got me a little bit nervous (Bortles seems to come back to life whenever he's playing Tennessee), but I still think they won't manage much. Probably a 41-17 type game, Titans way.

At the beginning of the season, I was cautiously optimistic that the Titans had improved, but after the early-season hiccups and missteps (especially in the division), I couldn't have imagined they would be challenging for a division crown this late in the season. If they make it into the playoffs, their inexperience and lack of top-flight corners will surely doom them, but just qualifying for the postseason will be more than I could have hoped for.

At some point I want to catalogue everyone's favorite team so I can see just how well represented and diverse our group is. I wonder where YTP2 YTP has been though
