aye, same here. The past 2 smash games always surprised me because I never looked online. It was so fun being surprised by the newcomers. I flipped when I first saw mewtwo in melee :P.
I would do that for this game, but unfortunately I won't be able to do that now because I'm at college and my Wii's at home >_> and by the time I get home my little bro will have unlocked all of the characters. Ah well :P
Ahh, noob question; but I'm "replaying" Melee, but how do you play automatically with Sheik without having to Transform (as in start teh battle with Sheik).. I knew there was a button to press..
Hold the A button down as the match is loading.
While we're on the subject of mains being changed, I'm rather interested in Yoshi's loss of the double jump cancel. Having utilized it myself plenty of times, I wonder how it will affect his aerial game overall. Thankfully though I've been keeping track of all the gameplay videos of Yoshi thus far, and combined with all of the buffs he's received in this iteration of Smash (more range most notably), I'm quite looking forward to playing with him.

I'm 100% sure that I'll feel the same way when I get to playing with my ~5 characters that I chose for Melee... So far, 3 have been confirmed to get nurfed... and the other 2 are most likely to be nurfed as well...

I played Pikachu in the original. My favourite character. I swore that he though he wasn't the strongest, he was the best cause he was my favourite. Turns out I was right. My mains from Melee were Marth, Samus, Fox, Mewtwo and Captain Falcon. I hope Falcon's coming back, I loved his taunt and his KNEE SMASH. Right now I'm thinking of Ike, Pokemon Trainer, Sonic, Fox and Snake.
Peach hasn't been nerfed, she was one of the top 5 at the demo.
She feels the most like her Melee counterpart than all the vets there so automatically you'll have a shortened learning curve...her fsmash has been buffed, she can still do all her floaty shit, turnips work the same, etc
yeah sure her dsmash has been nerfed a bit but that shit was broken in melee. it's still a decent attack.
Peach is still pretty awesome.

My two greatest character hopes are that Mewtwo got a severe buff akin to the one Bowser got and that Squirtle doesn't fucking blow.

Oh yes, if Mewtwo returns (haha stupid pun), i hope he gets an improve, as well as Ganondorf that i'm sure won't be a clone anymore (and i could bet is in the roster).
Third'd on this one, Mewtwo being bottom tier was a joke for the "most powerful pokemon". I bet they'll be tweaking his moveset and buffing his weight/range, I really can't wait for it.
As for Ganondorf he's likely going to also be his TP iteration like Link, and wield some sort of sword along with some special moves from Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker. While I was really wishing for Ganon as a separate character (specials could include summoning bats, warping around, etc etc.) I think that they'll likely go with the final smash route and make him a death-dealing machine more broken than Giga Bowser.
I think Nintendo is going to make the villains unlockable after you defeat them in the Subspace Emmisshasha thing.

Yeah...but Kristy's other suggestions are really good.
I think in this game you'll be able to unlock all the characters through both SE or just thousand(s) of matches...i hope they incorporate every character into the plot to culminate in some huge battle or something :D :D for every of the 40-50+ characters to have a role in the plot would really be something else.
on that note, i'm excited for what they whip up for snake, sonic, and whoever the third 3rd party dude is.
honestly, i hope mewtwo is COMPLETELY redone, like it bears very very little resemblance to its Melee counterpart...a lot of his attacks were a joke. disable and confusion? terrible in both pokemon and melee. Confusion actually put YOU in greater danger by giving opponents the perfect opportunity to bair you in the fucking face. lol...teleport, although worthless in poke-world, was a good fit (and good move) and shadow ball was good too (albeit a tad slow once delivered and the jagged path was weird).
who says mewtwo can't (or won't) use his fists yet is inclined to use his tail for almost every move? =\ he can learn focus punch and the three elemental punches through emerald tutors...
some energy force field or something would be cool to reflect stuff...or something. barrier/safeguard?
psybeam would be good.
also, with new d/p moves...he can use stuff like psycho cut, which is something that mewtwo needed badly...a regular physical attack that didn't involve his damn tail. Me First could be interesting.
and then the old moves...i don't see any reason why he can't use stuff like flamethrower, ice beam, thunderbolt, etc. it'd represent mewtwo accurately as one of the most unpredictable, versatile, and powerful pokes in the series.
oh and they got his jumping distance right but made him way too slow and light. "he spends a lot of time in the air" is a bullshit reason to make him light.
on that note, i think it'd be very cool if he could glide like the wingeds or float a la peach or SOMETHING to represent his ability to stay airborne for pretty much ever

heh, I mained Pikachu, with Kirby and Yoshi as backups in ssb. Boy was I surprised when they all got nerfed to hell in melee >_>. I main Peach now though, and from what I heard she's even better overall in Brawl :D
Personally I don't see Mewtwo returning. I kind of see that spot as a "current popular pokemon" spot, which means It'll be taken by Lucario or it won't be there. Anyways just my own baseless opinion :P .

I main Pikachu in Melee, but I never got a chance to play the original on the N64, so I don't consider him nerfed.

Silly Sakurai hasn't figured out that Rayquaza dwells in the sky, not under the sea though.

Rayquaza most likely being a boss really makes me feel better about Ridley (one dragon that's too big as a boss - check). And it's pretty cool that someone like Rayquaza appears, even though it was a little off. Also not what I was expecting when I read "evil hand reaches for him from the lake..."
