Pokémon Let's Go! - Pikachu and Eevee

2. Thus game opens up SO many possibilities with Generations 7 and 8. I could make a whole forum's worth of a list.
After USUM I'm not going to speculate what they're doing with the next game. XY and ORAS showed promise with mega evolutions, then they completely ditched that and went with Ultra Beasts in SM, which were fine, but then USUM a year later? They've shown in the past few years that they can randomly drop stuff on us (megas, Z Moves, Ultra Beasts) while also not delivering on what looked promising (megas, ZYGARDE).

1. I was talking main series (assuming GCN games count), but yeah.
2. I wasn't aware of the message of no trading.
3. Going to Kanto wouldn't. I was talking more along the lines of game hardware.
4. Possiblities for 3DS/Switch compatibility and stuff like that :D (Imagine using a 3DS as a controller for TV mode in Gen 8)
The 3DS controller thing I’m not sure how Let’s Go sinuates since it doesn’t happened to be featured in the game.
In this case at least, Let's Go's Kanto map is extremely similar to the map from RBY, so I'm guessing that massively cuts down on map design time. That plus the much more limited selection of Pokemon makes me think that this game has a far lower budget than your usual 3D Pokemon game. This game started development around 2 years ago if I recall, while gen 8 started development "before the Switch was announced".

I doubt Nintendo and TPC would want to admit this, but Let's Go just screams "filler game" to me in some ways because of this. There was no way they were gonna get an HD gen 8 out 2 years after SM lol
Map design, all right, but saying limiting Pokemon because they are too hard make is a complete lie, since the models and animations are from XY, while the running animations are unused from SM, not to mention they have them for every single Pokemon. The only reason they limited it was for Gen 1 pandering.

Eevee has the potential to be a fun starter, but taking away the evolution pokemon's ability to evolve? And you can't even compensate by giving it eevium Z? Pikachu might have precident, but it's not much better.

And yeah, appealing to nostalgia is inherently incapable of attracting newbies, so I don't get why they want to undo improvements.

There are nice things about this game, I admit, but plenty seems a step in the wrong direction. Pokemon should be additive, not subtractive.

Both Pikachu and Eevee in PLGO compensate the inability to evolve with having significantly higher BST (we do not have the exact values, but all the screenshots and gameplay shown how their base stats are significantly higher than even a 252/31 equivalent) on top of access to unique special (and quite overpowered) coverage moves.
Super stoked for the stat overhaul!! I've been hoping for this since Gen V but now we can finally leave our RNG pokebank mons behind and start from scratch for Gen VIII.
I wouldn't get excited over this.

Firstly, there's a basically 100% chance that those "candy stats" are not going to persist in gen 8 games: they are in PLGO basically as a *easier* EV system for Go players / novices that also somewhat aids for the lack of ability and items, but it's pretty much expected for those to disappear once those mons get moved to gen 8. I'll be surprised if the mon stats don't get completely rerolled on transfer similarly to VGC mons (bar maybe IVs and Natures assuming they are identical to main series ones).

Second... with the pretty safe knowledge that starters will not be transferable, unless for any reason certain PLGO mons have some unique attack that causes them to be borked in competitive (cough Seismic Toss Kanga) I also do not really see any reason to bother.

Yeah to be fair, I'm not sure how much extra work it would take to put in the other Pokemon. From E3 impressions I assumed that it wasn't quite a copy and paste job though. I recall people playing it saying that Pokemon had some new textures when you looked up close, such as Pikachu and Eevee having new fur textures, Hard to say how much has changed from that build (besides lighting, it seems like the later builds have improved that), but I'm getting the impression that its not a 100% cut and paste job.

Oh has this been confirmed anywhere? I mean personally, I'm guessing they won't be transferable either, but I don't want to count the eggs before they hatch here!

Also for the record when it comes to choosing my starter, atm I'm leaning towards Pikachu because despite Eevee's godly moves, its stats sorta suck (the estimates I did sorta made it seem like a slightly bulkier Glalie stats wise lol). Partner Pikachu may not be strong, but it seems to be fast and has good coverage. Depending on how far the candy boosts go, having a Water-type move might be big over Jolteon for blasting Golem and Rhydon, and potentially freeing up a Hidden Power slot!

How candy boosts work could change my mind though. If you can just straight up max out every stat like in gens 1 and 2, I might prefer Eevee because everything will be so damn bulky that I may prefer to just spread status to cripple stuff for my sweepers.

On a non-competitive note: For anyone whose getting this and plays Pokemon Go, I'd reccomend bringing this game to any raids you do. Since anyone who transfers stuff to your Switch will get 30 minutes to catch Meltan, you may become a bit of a hero if you do that!

Don't 100% quote me on this, but I believe this was specified when they said that they want to keep the compatibility with bank.

Now i'll be curious to know both the BST and the eventual gen 8 ability.

Rant: I do not want to need 400 candies to evolve it as according to the site it evolves ONLY in Go. But I know I'll have to.

Also I'm taking pleasure in noting one of my guesses was correct:
Zeraora is #807
Meltan is likely to be #808
Melmetal consequently #809

This allows gen 8 starter to be cleanly #810 as I expected.

Clean work.

This is so exciting since this actually marks the first time that a mythical can be used in little cup, assuming its not another form or something
Nah it clearly says it's an evolution / separate Pokemon, on both Go (as it evolves) and the Pokemon Let's Go page.

To be honest I find it interesting that they chose to take that picture against a Magmar.

I wonder if that is a hint to the fact Meltan could have some ways to not die to Fire types (maybe a particular ability, or particular moveset)

In before Flash Fire.

Well, it wouldn't be an ability considering that PLGO won't have them, but perhaps it has attacks for Fire-types like Earthquake, Stone Edge, etc.

Here's the description of Melmetal that was posted on Serebii:

"Melmetal was worshiped in ancient times as a Pokémon with the power to create metal. Because of its Evolution from Meltan, its body has hardened and is now incredibly sturdy. Melmetal is made of liquid metal, and its flexible arms can be whipped forward to deliver a devastating punch. It can also execute a powerful, unique Steel-type physical move known as Double Iron Bash. By using the hex nut in its chest like an axle to spin its arms around, Melmetal can deal a double strike to its opponent. The weight of the heavy hex nuts on its arms combined with the spinning motion gives the Double Iron Bash move extraordinary power. "

Given what we have here, I can imagine this Pokemon having a decently-high Attack stat and some impressive physical Defense. As for possible abilities in the future if it doesn't get a signature ability, I predict Sturdy (I know just using the word "sturdy" in a description doesn't automatically point to the Sturdy ability, but it kinda makes sense for this mon), Clear Body/Full Metal Body, or maybe even something out there like Liquid Ooze or Gooey.

Melmetal is such a B I G G U Y.

But seriously, Melmetal looks pretty cool to me. It's nice to see object mons getting some spotlight for once, as opposed to mostly animal mons.

So basically, the typical Steel-type Pokemon except with a high BST.
