SPOILERS! Pokemon Sword & Shield Pre-Release SPOILERS - Check Post 2!

It is weird to include Type: Null, the mon designed to hunt Ultra Beasts, in the game with no Ultra Beasts.

Also no Meltan/Melmetal? Were they really a GO/LGPE exclusive? How strange.

WAIT! Maybe they included Type: Null because they're going to have Gladion in the game!

As for Meltan, it's a Mythical which they usually keep off the list until you get it.

Let me get this straight. Sirfetch'd is pure Fighting, just like the octopus bros, and Falinks? I don't have much of a problem with monotype, but when you got the same type for for three different lines in a new game/generation, I have to question: Why on Earth?! Bet Galarian Darmanitan is pure Ice, when it's a perfect candidate for an Ice/Fighting mon, the anticipated type Crabominable failed to carry due to its speed.
Gen 1 did this already with the Machop line, the Mankey line, and the Hitmons. Doesn't make it right, but the precedent had been set ages ago.

There were three Type: Nulls created, right? One that Gladion rescued, one that you get in the post game, and one more that's unaccounted for. Maybe it found its way to Galar?

That's terrifying and I love it.

Milo - Grass
Nessa - Water
Kabu - Fire
Allister - Ghost
Opal - Fairy
Melony - Ice
Piers - Dark
Raihan - Dragon

According to the list for sword posted by one of the spanish twitter accounts, it looks like there's one other pair of version exclusive gyms.

Planta, Agua, Fuego, Lucha, Hada, Tierra , Dragón, Siniestro

For those who don't speak Spanish:
Grass, Water, Fire, Fighting(Ghost in Shield), Fairy, Ground (Ice in Shield), Dragon and Dark

I give them a pass on that, since they were the first games. But if you can obtain all of these new three lines in Sword, that would just be annoying to me.

Wonder how will the wolves fare in NUbers, any guesses?

I'm interested to see which Pokemon will be good to answer their typings, and whether the monotyped injured forms/Eternatus will still be 680BST. Against the fully powered form, Fire and Ground will both be good, and Ferrothorn still seems like it will be strong in this meta. So I'd expect at least one Fire type to see a lot of use. I expect Gothitelle and Wobbuffet will be good aswell -- Eternatus will probably just destroy them, but they can choose their matchups.

Unrelated, but Type: Null's presence lends credence to the idea that Eternatus is an Ultra Beast.

I'm quite surprised Silvally made it into the dex. Does that mean we'll see Gladion or someone from the Aether Foundation? If I recall right, there should be 2-3 Type:Null in the lab, so it would make sense if one of them were given to you because Pkm usually don't like to stay in a place, and I bet you're quite "gifted" at befriending Pkm.

That aside, I'm sad Starmie didn't make it, and it seems the dex ends with 400 + possibly 1-2 new Pkm, probably a mythical. That's roughly one hundred more Pkm than SM's regional dex, I believe. It is still possible we'll get a chance to catch other Pkm, but as in SM and USUM, they won't be registered in the dex.

As for the choice of Pkm, I hoped that Xatu would get a chance to shine, but if there's Sigilyph, that won't be easy at all. Same with Golisopod and Araquanid, the latter being more useful as it doesn't have a hindering ability. However, there's a chance Xatu and Golisopod get some chances to shine through buffs, new moves, etc. So, I'll wait.

Galarian Yamask is cool, its new mid-evolution (?) as well. Or could that be just a split evolution? No idea.

Then, it seems we won't get any sub legendary Pkm. I'm actually fine with that if this is true because I always wanted to know how a metagame would look like without legendary Pkm, not that I'm against them, but come on, if we're in the Pkm world, it's highly unlikely for a trainer to have legendary Pkm. It could give some Pkm more of a chance to shine.

It is worth noting that Phalinks appears to be based more on the Greek shield-wall than its Roman counterpart. The Greeks used overlapping round shields and are often shown with bronze/brass helmets (i.e. yellow). The Roman formation used non-overlapping rectangular shields and most infantrymen wore iron/steel (i.e. gray) equipment. Additionally, many skirmishes among Greeks involved actual bloodshed surprisingly little: They mostly just pushed into each other with their strong defenses until one side decided they didn't want the farmland that badly. After a line broke, everybody picked up their injured and went off. This may fit the ideal of a formation with no weapons better than the Romans, who neither had nor generally fought cultures with this sort of 'gentleman's agreement.' (this is also why Greek v Persian was a lot bloodier than Greek v Greek)

Then again, Groudon and Necrozma-DM exist and the doggos dont really seem to stand a chance, wonder how good will their stats and abilities be
