(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

I think Home updated so that you don't need a living dex to get Magearna. Home also registers any Pokemon that was registered in Bank if you move them. I registered every Pokemon in Sun, connected to Bank, then move some Pokemon to home and every non-Galar entry was filled.
Do you know if mythicals are still required?

If this is true, then that's actually great. It means that there's a chance I might complete the Home Dex in the future. Maybe.

Chansey & Golbat can and will try to evolve and just be arbitraily stopped beacuse for some reason despite all the changes/additions done to Kanto, we could not possibly allow even the microscopic possibility of getting a pokemon not in the original 151

It's all needlessly arbitrary!

This though I will agree with. It's not just that you can't trade with RSE -- you can't trade a post-Mew Pokémon from FRLG to a FRLG that hasn't gotten the national dex yet. I even once tried trading an Onix holding a Metal Coat to a non-completed FRLG, and like Chansey it tried to evolve and failed.

It's like... it's as if the Pokémon aren't even allowed to exist in the code yet. And that part is a step too far that I find weird. If you don't want to have post-gen 1 Pokémon available by the player before post-game, sure. But don't lock off trading like that.

After 3 generations of having no good Flying moves, Unfezant finally gets Brave Bird!

Granted Quick Attack / Facade aren't terrible options, but c'mon, Unfezant's movepool was already pretty trash. It wouldn't have hurt to give it Double edge or something.

I'm getting kinda sick of how prevalent Rotom has been the past two generations. The Rotom Dex in Alola was cool. It's neat to see humans and Pokemon interact outside of battle. But then Galar gave us Rotom phones, Rotom bikes, Rotom PCs, and Rotom flying cameras. It's too much Rotom. Porygon is right there for PCs and other pure electronics.
I can see where you're coming from. Rotom has been getting a bit too involved in the latest games and imo wasn't really necessary to include in Sword and Shield. At the same time, considering how much Gamefreak panders to fan-favorite mons, specifically from gen 1, Its great to see an obscure gen 4 mon get put in the spotlight.

B..but what about that one episode where Porygon Pikachu gave sezuires to everyone? Doesn't that mean Porygon doesn't exist to GF? Masters doesn't count because GF didn't make that.

But seriously, it would be nice to see Porygon in contexts like this.
 
My main complaint about x and y is that they gave so. much. attention. to greninja. The other starters were sitting there, saying: "what do we do? We don't have an awesome fanbase, a mega form, or a good typing. No one will ever pick us anyway" Also the fact that it won the vote for the best pokemon really made me regret my whole pokemon experience
This is pretty late, but Greninja did have a pretty insane ability which granted it huge dominance in Competitive play early on in XY to the point that it was banned from OU in ORAS. That and the fact it was a star in the anime was why it got a second form. Not to mention that it’s playable in Smash, which also promoted its popularity.

So yeah, despite Greninja getting more fan service than Delphox and Chesnaught, it’s not like there’s 0 basis for it.
 
There are a few small things that annoyed me in Pokemon games:

1) Dexit - Obvious, considering the negativity around it in general. And paid DLC just seems like a cash grab to most people that play Pokemon vanilla (without events, DLC, etc). But then again, this is a very mixed issue in terms of how players of Pokemon see it.

2) Cave Routes - Zubats and Geodudes galore. ...End me.

3) Forced Grinding - In some games, such as the Gen 4 games (especially when grinding is slow), some battles especially when we were children (or at least young teens with little knowledge that moves and stats matter way more than aesthetic), we never really knew the levels for Pokemon unless we played those games over and over again. And considering the horrible level curve in games like Generation 2 with the Red fight and the same for the remakes, it adds up more playtime through grinding and farming levels until we can feasibly beat Red. (That's mostly what people do, anyway).
 
Inspired by the discussion in the "little things you like" thread.

Game Freak clearly wants you to check out the Wild Area and Max Raids while playing through the game. But I had no interest in any of that until the story was complete. I did some basic exploration of the Wild Area to find items, but otherwise it just felt like a big distraction until the postgame.

So the small annoyances that come out of that are:
1) Any Pokemon, especially from the new gen, being exclusively available in the Wild Area. Would've liked a Dragapult on my in-game team, but I realized very late that I wasn't going to find one on any of the routes.
2) The level curve taking a noticeable jump right after you first go to Hammerlocke. I'm the kind of player who runs back to the Pokemon Centre once one Pokemon has fainted, and I'm not the kind of player who trained in the Wild Area on the way up there. I've done a lot of running back on the way to Stow-on-Side.

To be fair unless you lucked out with a raid or timetraveled for one, you weren't going to find a Dreepy either way. It only spawns on misty weather, which only appears in late/postgame.

It’s Thunderstorm as a symbol encounter in the Lake of Outrage, and has a 2% chance of appearing.
 
...which though you still can't get until having water bike which you get just before the snow town... right?
You also need enough Gym badges to be able to catch Pokemon that are at least level 50. (Again a stupid mechanic)

Edit: you'll only need 6 badges to get it. (Which I guess is better, but still limiting)

The principle behind this--not cheesing through the game with a Pokémon that's 20-30 levels over everything you're currently encountering--is obvious, and consistent with the similarly restrictive traded-Pokémon-obedience mechanic. It does, however, seem kind of in vain when EXP candies kinda allow you to overlevel your Pokémon for minimally more effort if you so choose. At the very least, it's only the static area encounters that are especially strong, and there's supposed to be a restriction that prevents them from being shiny, which is nice.

What bothers me about SwSh's Pokémon catching system is how it makes Pokémon that are a higher level than yours harder to catch. During the main story, it's understandable, if a little frustrating when you can't catch that level 30 Pokémon with your level 29 team. But it has no business still being active after you become the Champion, IMO.

But... it's not active anymore after you become the champion. There's no restriction on what you can catch after that.

Tell me about it. When I was playing Shield, the watchtower ruins was right next to me, and there are Ice Types. Woohoo! Early game Ice types. Except that every Ice type was level 21 +, and you could only catch Pokémon that were 20 and under. It really limits the variety, because the majority of Pokémon types were Ground, Grass, and Normal.

If the Wild Area returns in future installments, this level cap better be gone. It’s one of my biggest issues with the Wild Area in terms of gameplay, the other being how late the Water bike comes in game and how it limits exploration.

I'm not sure I'd agree with this. The "water bike" is basically replacing the Surf HM, makes sense to limit exploration a bit at the start.
Wild area definitely has some issues, but I think getting access to part of it only in the later parts of the game isnt one of it.

If anything, having it progressively become more "explorable" via pseudo-HM like the water bike would be a better way to not need the level limitation, as you could just gate the stronger "late game oriented" pokemon behind story blocks that way. (As well as incentivize re-visiting it outside of doing raids)

No, no, there's something in the catching algorithm that makes it harder to catch a Pokémon that's higher leveled than your active Pokémon (maybe just the one you opened the battle with?). At least, it definitely felt harder to catch higher leveled Pokémon than I expected, and as far as I know this is still in effect after you become Champion.

I've heard this mentioned from other people, too, so I don't think it's just a personal anecdote.

It's worth noting that there doesn't seem to be much information on the backend of gen 8's catching mechanics in general. There doesn't seem to be any online calculator that fully supports gen 8, and some big databases are missing both any potential adjustments to the base formula and any peculiarities of specific ball types. There's at least something that people don't know, and it wouldn't really surprise me if level scaling was included in that.
 
This was a topic I brought up in Discord. Its not something that annoys me per se, but I do find it rather strange. Something I noticed- The 3DS games and onwards lacks an intro. They immediately go straight to the title screen. The only exception is ORAS, which was a remake. BW2 were the last games with a cinematic intro before the game's title screen. I find it kind of disappointing, because these cinematic intros were a real pleasure to watch, and I enjoy them to this day. I can't see why they'd stop doing them in the 3DS games onwards.
