Project heat

Exploud @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 208 HP / 48 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Whirlpool
- Taunt
- Hammer Arm
- Boomburst

This Exploud set is a complete stall matchup fish, but you shouldn't be able to lose to Chansey teams if you play this thing right and don't miss.
Whirlpool traps, with Taunt stopping recovery, and Hammer Arm/Boomburst + Whirlpool bringing the chans/pex pivot down.

Pretty sure if I ever lost a match to that I would quit Pokemon.

I’m in like the 1900s top 50 or whatever doesnt really matter I really do not like the DLC. urshifu is fucking stupid and honestly id ban the gorilla, cinderace too on top of the obvs urshifu + magearna ban.

Zard is there for extra gorilla support and defogging but it just is there mainly for urshifu fodder indication. pangoro and ace are like serious mvps on this squad like goddamn.

Cinderace @ Assault Vest
Ability: Libero
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pyro Ball
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt
- Sucker Punch

Charizard @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Blaze

- Grassy Glide
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Pangoro @ Life Orb
Ability: Scrappy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 248 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Gunk Shot
- Knock Off

Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe

- Earth Power

Rhyperior @ Focus Sash
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Heavy Slam
- Earthquake

I’m in like top 50 right now. the zard is for urshifu sacking and hard hits. If it's banded it does 60% with cc. wicked blow does 95% with banded and dies to fire blast.

my replays are under gen8ou with "omari p"

Some things I have used recently on YouTube:

:Porygon-Z:
Porygon-Z @ Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Tri Attack
- Dark Pulse / Shadow Ball
- Trick
- Hyper Beam

Really strong nuke that pairs well with slower pivots. Obviously it is very frail and not the quickest, but it is able to 2HKO SDef Toxapex, 3HKO Magearna, and Trick Chansey. Not much can truly counter it in this metagame and Hyper Beam can even net some kills that nothing should be able to get.

:Slowbro:
Slowbro @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Scald
- Yawn
- Teleport
- Slack Off

Standard Slowbro, but with Yawn. On a lot of teams, it is worse than Future Sight as you see it paired with things like Urshifu or Cinderace. On some teams, forcing the Yawn is really practical though. More of a niche, other option type of move, but it still is viable imo.

:Gallade:
Gallade (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Triple Axel
- Trick

If you don't face a Slowbro, this thing is going to do well. It is virtually uncountered aside from Slowbro. Triple Axel allows for amazing middlegrond opportunities and is able to 2HKO Hippowdon. Dual STAB is pretty cool, too. Easily a more niche pick, but I appreciate the versatility as it is able to break cores that rely on Urshifu being the main Fighter they encounter (i.e: can ZHB the normal Pex/Amoong pivots or 2HKO Clef).

:Lycanroc-Dusk:
Lycanroc-Dusk @ Choice Band
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Psychic Fangs
- Close Combat
- Accelerock

Really strong boi

:Rotom-Frost:
Rotom-Frost @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Discharge
- Blizzard
- Pain Split

Harder to switch into than one might imagine. Reliance on Blizzard, not resisting Fairy, and being weak to Fire/Fighting makes it worse than Rotom-Heat for sure, but some teams are losing a Pokemon every single time Rotom-Frost comes in, which is really cool.

:Bouffalant:
Bouffalant @ Choice Band
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Head Charge
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Wild Charge

Really strong boi 2.0, but lack of OHKO power on walls leads to Regenerator cores being problematic on the breaking front. Surely better in lower tiers, but it's fun to abuse on ladder and force kills mid-late game.

:Druddigon:
Druddigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Scale Shot
- Fire Punch
- Thunder Punch
- Gunk Shot

Honestly it's funny how strong this is against common defensive cores. Hippowdon is problematic, but elemental punches allow for 2HKOs on Mandibuzz, Corviknight, etc. and you are able to OHKO Clefable or Ferrothorn with Gunk Shot or Fire Punch respectively. It's a pretty cool niche pick, but it fulfills very little defensively unfortunately.

:Exploud:
Exploud @ Choice Specs
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 24 HP / 252 SpA / 232 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Boomburst
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Sleep Talk

Nuke on Sticky Webs teams. If you don't face Chansey, it is going to put in work. Sleep Talk for Amoonguss.

:Heracross:
Heracross @ Leftovers
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Close Combat / Low Kick
- Knock Off / Megahorn
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

This is something I've been using on stall to deal with Urshifu, who is otherwise almost impossible to deal with on stall without confining yourself to MandiPex, which makes teambuilding very restrictive. Heracross is able to avoid the 2HKO from anything that Urshifu has, even after Rocks, and proceed to either OHKO Urshifu (if Urshifu has taken any prior damage), or Restalk (if it has not). Noteworthy is that Sleep Talk is always boosted by Guts, which allows Heracross to pack a punch even if it's Atk stat is uninvested. Even after taking down Urshifu, Heracross still has a lot of utility as a Ground/Fighting/Dark resist, especially when supported with Wish and/or Heal Bell, which are already typical components of Stall anyway.

An alternative set for your team that I saw player "ezwz" using, tho it can be passive af:

Azumarill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Whirlpool
- Draining Kiss / Perish Song
- Toxic
- Protect

essentially the set would describe me drunk at a summer pool party if not for covid

but no really this set has been memeing around forever in past gens, and now can still make a difference in the longevity of the team vs things like ace, rilla, maro, daunt, ursh/lucha/other-fighting,
while if u get lucky with whirlpool & circumstances, you can possibly take out a wall with perish song.

all in all tho, offense + smart switching is usually the best defense so no way is this set on the same level as band/BD. just somethin fun worth considerin'

1LDK

It's never going to get better
is a Top Team Rater
So, afther posting this in the OU Metagame tread, GMars told me that these type of sets can be brought up here, so thats what we are going to do tonight
(((sorry if bad english, is not my mother languaje)))

Slowking @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 80 SpA / 176 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast

This is the AV Slowking from gen 6 but I tried my best to update the spread and moves to make it suitable to the meta

Why?
Scald as STAB and Volc answer
Fire Blast is our Mag answer
the fun is in Ice Beam and Future Sight, with Ice beam you can punish dragons and togekiss for trying to enter, and future sight is a underated option that makes the oponent having to act in paralalel and akward constantly

This set lets you:
-Make 57.8 - 68.1% to Volcarona with Scald while getting 3HKO with +0 Bug Buzz
-Actually checks Magearna, because you can tank her hits nicely and the only thing you fear is getting tricked (I used all the smogon sets of Mag + the OU´s Next Best thing)
-Laughs at Hydreigon and making 47.3 - 56% with ice beam
-Rotom Heat need Nasty Plot discharge to kill you (16% chance to 2HKO) while you get a guaranteed 2HKO on it
-Alakazam needs a +2 Shadow Ball to have a chance of 9% of 2HKOing while you have a guaranteed 3HKO with Scald

This set loses to:
-You dont staight up lose to Togekiss but the mashup is shaky (its a 3HKO with Ice Beam while +2 Air Slash does 28.1 - 33.5% witch means it has a 0.1% of 3HKO, but thats if toge is not behind a sub and doesnt flinch slowking) so I dont recomend you to use this as your only Togekiss answer
-If the standard Slowbro takes a big chunk with Cinderace U-turn and/or Sucker Punch, image Slowking with no Def Investment. Physical Attackers in general can potentialy use Slowking as a free entry
-You seriously need AV to do all the things above comfortably so Slowking HATES Knock Off and Trick with burning passion, and since you dont have support moves, you have to be a bit carefull when using this set
-Toxic can put this set on a fast ticking timer that can let you to messy situations

Teammates:
-Regenerator friends like Pex, Amoongoos and Tangrowth because the power of friendship and Regenerator can do eveything :,3
-Mons that love Mag and Volc being gone in general such as [insert mons]* can be paired with it

Now, as you can see, im a low ladder inexperienced player, so maybe you guys wont belive the efficiency of this set
so im droping the team here

https://pokepast.es/4a0318049f4c4e79

Im also super bad at making teams so maybe there is a better way to use this

is it niche? yes
But giving this set a try wont kill anyone... I hope

Here's my boi:

Coalossal @ Power Herb
Ability: Steam Engine
EVs: 128 HP / 236 SpA / 144 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Meteor Beam
- Flamethrower
- Scald
- Earth Power

Steam engine coalossal tanks a fire hit for a grass mon or scald from pex (EVs could prob using tweaking) and beams on little children w power herb. Birds can't switch in. Pex, ferro, moongus, tang, etc all die pretty much. Chansey walls it. Slowbro cant tank a hit after getting beamed. Rock solid.

Here's a Trick Room, "standard" looking but fun to use.

https://pokepast.es/7d2c0b93084742cb

Conkeldurr @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Close Combat
- Mach Punch
- Earthquake
- Facade

Magearna @ Occa Berry
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 27 Spe
- Flash Cannon
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch
- Trick Room

Rillaboom @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
IVs: 27 Spe
- Grassy Glide
- Superpower
- Acrobatics
- Swords Dance

(p.s. I don't think Marowak-A is one of the best choices for TR anymore since there aren't anymore Megas/Z-users to absorb Knock Off)

(p.s. #2 : this ain't worthy of a post even in heat but -- do you REALLY REALLY REALLY HATE u-turn spam?? is it possible to create a viable OU team with Rocky Helmet on all usable Iron Barbs / Rough Skin mons?? The answer to the second question is one giant nuking NOPE.
But here's one anyways: https://pokepast.es/08951afe2c4a545d )

this is actually amazing. I’m going through how this can work and if you get the right setup you can sweep for damn sure.

First heat set I guess...
efd8a1e39f323acdaedab7ec13320868.png

Why did I make this shit https://pokepast.es/ba273f212c1c2735

Run through the team...

Doublade @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 68 HP / 136 Atk / 188 Def / 116 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Autotomize
- Iron Head
- Shadow Sneak

The whole idea behind this was to make doublade ho which in itself is a ok heat idea and this set itself is pretty heat. However as you get to the rest of the team it gets worse from there.

Grimmsnarl (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Play Rough
- Drain Punch
- Fire Punch

Why do I think this is ok? I guess it could be a cool breaker but just use shifu lmao. It does have 120 attack so it could be cool. Just when you think it will set up screens BAM! it pulls out choice band crunch.

Excadrill @ Focus Sash
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Iron Head
- Rock Tomb

Standard drill ho lead set. You'll lead with Grimm tho and get this in later.

Kommo-o @ Salac Berry
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 28 HP / 252 Atk / 228 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Belly Drum
- Substitute
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab

Fun kommo set. Just pure heat.

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Cosmic Power
- Soft-Boiled
- Body Press
- Stored Power

You know I had to add Demon Mew this thing is too demonic to leave out.

Dragapult @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Shadow Ball
- Fire Blast
- Hydro Pump

And we end it with specs pult with hydro pump WHY

Overall this is a set you probably shouldn't use unless you are on an alt wanting to have some fun.

Oh yeah replays this was on an alt and low ladder so take it with a grain of salt

Smashed with kommo and finished with demon mew https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8ou-1165688947

In my opinion, a banded grimmsnarl set like this is more optimal.

Grimmsnarl (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Darkest Lariat / Crunch / Knock Off
- Play Rough
- Superpower / Power Whip / Taunt / Thunder Wave
- Trick

I tried this back when Seismitoad was still relevant and tested it a bit recently. It's VERY outclassed by Crawdaunt right now, but hey, fairy stab. The speed creeps adamant Crawdaunt and trick is nice to cripple the fat shit that is everywhere on ladder right now. Trick can help stop something like a Volcarona sweep thanks to prankster. The last slot is super up for grabs since it has decent coverage and good utility. Thunder Wave last slot is what you need imo so you have some justification of using it over Crawdaunt (and para is broken).
Yeah that set is a bit better because I didn't know Grimm got trick, should have known. But I would personally stick with drain punch for recovery over para or superpower.

Nice set for grimmsnarl tho, def better than my choice band set.

I've seen a ton of weird and/or cool shit so far in cycle 1 of OLT. Here's a list:

Part 1:
  • Meteor Beam Mew
  • Salac Togekiss
  • Shift Gear Toxtricity with Throat Chop
  • fucking banded Raboot
  • Mixed Toxtricity in general
  • Dragon Dance Kyurem
  • Specs Magnezone with Steel Beam
  • T Spikes + Flip Turn Dragalge
  • LO Scizor
  • Meteor Beam Necrozma
Part 2:
  • Spikes + Iron Defense Ferrothorn
  • Rough Skin + Rocky Helmet Druddigon
  • Quick Attack LO Scizor
  • CM Hatterene on stall
  • Psycho Cut LO Scizor
  • Thunder Jirachi on stall
  • Doom Desire bulky Jirachi
  • Dual status + Synthesis Amoonguss
  • SubRoost Kyurem with Freeze Dry and Icicle Spear
  • LO rocks Kommo-o on webs
Part 3:
  • NP Togekiss with Heal Bell
  • Air Slash Keldeo
  • Rocky Helmet Sandaconda
  • CM + Thunder Clef
  • DD Sucker Puch Dragapult
  • Rising Voltage spam (Alolan Raichu + Pincurchin + Zeraora)
  • Bulk Up + Iron Head Urshifu
  • LO SD Rillaboom with U-Turn and Superpower
  • Block Toxapex
  • G-Slowbro + Dragapult on stall
  • Amnesia Quaqsire (the anti-Togekiss tech)
  • SD Sirfetch'd
  • Defensive Kommo-o with Flamethrower
  • Haxorus
  • Safeguard Volcarona

I'll continue updating this as I watch games. I won't mention who's been using which sets to keep it fair though.

Shift Gear Toxtricity with Throat Chop

Mixed Toxtricity in general
Not taking credit for this as I did not invent the set -- US West used it in WCOP and I am sure it surfaced on the ladder (note: been alerted that Storm Zone was using it as well) previously, but I've been using:
:Toxtricity: @ Life Orb
Ability: Punk Rock
EVs: 144 Atk / 180 SpA / 8 SpD / 176 Spe
Rash Nature
- Shift Gear
- Boomburst
- Drain Punch
- Overdrive / Throat Chop

Drain Punch at +1 kills Excadrill and with slightly more attack you can kill Dragapult at +1 and Gengar at +0 with Throat Chop. I prefer Overdrive b/c Corviknight and Skarmory are super common right now, but either way this set is great at dismantling balance cores and sweeping offense once you get a free turn and some priority users are taken out. Worst case, it should at least force significant damage or trade for a kill in the less favorable match-ups. I would not use it outside of HO, but it's a really cool option/lure there. Unfortunately it was better in the Magearna metagame as luring Excadrill for Magearna went a long way for Stored Power sets on Grassy Terrain HO teams, but it is still viable now and can pick apart common bulky cores we see spammed rn.

does it have to be an entire team or it can be just a set? if just a set is allowed, i have one
:bw/volcarona:
Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots

EVs: 252 HP / 140 Def / 116 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain

- Roost
- Toxic
BULKY RONA!!!!1!!1
Here, the evs and nature are to not get ohkoed by urshifu wicked blow
giga drain provides coverage and recovery on the same slot
mystical fire provides an special attack drop to help with special attackers
roost provides recovery and toxic to wear down opposing mons

Parts 2 and 3 of weird and cool shit during OLT has now been added to my previous post. Just so this isn't a one-liner, I'll throw in something about which battles they're coming from. All have been high ladder, mostly 1900+, from players such as ABR, Storm Zone, Insult, Tace, etc, along with other players whose forum names I can't infer from their OLT names.

I just wanna add to this - i'd rec finch's set with a preference for overdrive and fire punch over drain punch. depends on your squad though. its pretty heat

  • Infestation Tangrowth
Didn't have the time or stamina to see myself qualify, but enjoy a montage of Tangrowth trapping Pokemon it probably shouldn't have.

I unfortunately don't have replays but here's a very dumb Quag that I sometimes use just for fun.

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Infestation
- Recover
- Yawn
- Protect

If you look up "gimmick" in a dictionary you'll probably see this set as the definition, but I can't deny the fun of surprising someone with Infestation Quagsire, where I trap them, Yawn them, and just watch them wither away as they're helpless to do anything. Sometimes I cycle out the item for Rindo Berry, Lum Berry, or even Binding Band, but it doesn't change the basic strategy. Sort of similar to the Infestation Tang that Mortus just posted, but in exchange for being really passive, I get Unaware.
