(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Honestly Lysandre needed two different teams depending on the versions. He can keep Pyroar, but I think his Mega Pokemon should have either been Mega Aggron (X) & Mega Tyranitar (Y). Then after that either have neutral Pokemon which could work with either Legends (such as Florges) or Pokemon super effective/resistant to the Legendary.
Aggron would take on Xerneas while Tyranitar takes on Yveltal, being the perfect counters for each version's legendaries.

Yup, that's what I did it. I was originally thinking Mawile instead of Aggron, since it's Fairy/Steel which would mirror how Tyranitar is the same Type as its Legendary but also Super Effective against it, but decided if the Mega is meant to be Lysandre's most intimidating Pokemon than probably best to just choose one that looks like a giant monster.

I know that Nintendo is able to code in Gift Pokemon having specific Poke Ball types, so why isn't Poipole in a Beast Ball? The Gift in both USUM and SwSh has a Poke Ball instead. And the Shiny Poipole event is in a Cherish Ball?! Why isn't it in the Poke Ball of its native dimension? WHY?

The Beast Ball is not a Poké Ball from another dimension, though. It's an Aether Foundation invention.

This bugs the crap out of me (well, not the gift one so much, but definitely the in-game one).

EDIT: Siggu raises a valid point, but the Ultra Guardians keep their other Pokemon in Beast Balls when this makes no sense lore-wise (yes players might want to catch other Pokemon in them for the novelty factor, but they explicitly aren't meant for Pokemon from this dimension). So it's jarring to get a Poipole from them in a regular Pokeball.

  • USUM Poipole: It is kind of odd in this instance, though the Recon Squad caught it with specific intent on offering it to the player, so maybe they thought it would fit in better in a normal Poke Ball. Also, Poipole seems to be one of the more "tamer" Ultra Beasts, wouldn't be surprised if they more willingly went into Poke Balls, so no need for a Beast Ball which could instead be used on a more wilder Ultra Beast.
  • SwSh Poipole: This Poipole being in a Poke Ball makes more sense as the Max Lair scientists have no idea what it is. It just appeared from out of the Dynamax Adventure, hung around, and then they offered it to the player.
  • Event Poipole: Event Pokemon usually come in Cherish Balls to make them a bit more special.

Not just letting people roll everything with the legendary? That'll force them to actually think about how to approach the battle with the lunatic hell-bent on destroying the world! We can't have that!

the fact that npcs dont care if a random child just goes into there house uninvited is mind blowing.
Yeah, but that's basically every RPG. Something annoying that's exclusive to Pokémon, at least the earlier games, is that nobody acknowledges you as Champion after you beat the game, except maybe a few central characters depending on the game.

Man, fuck you, I beat Cynthia to get this title and you talk to me like I have no chance of beating you.

Why do I think of the Flanders scene when I see this guy? xD

I think there is literally one Gentleman, in RBY, who says "you rude child! How DARE you barge into my room?!" and then orders you to get out once you've beaten him in battle. He stands out to me for being apparently the only person in the Pokemon world who seems to value his privacy.

EDIT: And Gladion, of course.

Forgot Cynthia, you'd think with how big of a thing Pokemon Battles are in Galar that, after becoming Champion, as you explore the region again in post game they'd have changed up a batch of NPCs dialogue to reflect you're the Champion. But NOPE. The only dialogue changes in post game which shows people know you're Champion:
  • A few NPCs in Wyndon Stadium. Two that come to the top of my head is your #1 Fan (a Lass with the Orbeetle, she became a fan of you after your first Gym Battle against Milo when her partner was just a Blipbug and appeared in every stadium to cheer you on; she's one of my favorite NPCs but it's kind of sad they don't do much with her) and a Youngster who wants to shake your hand. HOWEVER, go outside of the Stadium and the people out there are still acting like Leon is the Champion, like really GF?
  • The Pokemon Center Nurse & Boutique cashier will call you Champion, though I don't think the PokeMart cashier or Hair Salon stylist does.
  • Some passer-bys in Stow-on-Side will be surprised to see the Champion is there.
But that's really it, it's a big missed opportunity. The DLCs also doesn't have anyone recognize you as Champion, even when you're doing the parts that require you to become Champion to do!

To be honest I do think this is kind of a non-issue. The design philosophy of RPGs is that players who are into exploration talk to all of the NPCs on their first visit to a location, or players who don’t care about exploration don’t talk to anyone. It should be a very small minority of players who return to old locations to talk to random NPCs who have nothing of worth to say.

The only NPCs who should really need their dialogue updated are:
  • Services (nurse, move tutors, breeding couple etc.)
  • Characters in post-game exclusive areas (which don’t really exist any more anyway)
In theory, these are the only NPCs that a player has any reason to talk to after becoming champion. It’s the same reason why Korrina hilariously remains at the top of the tower where you receive the Mega Bracelet for the rest of time; any player who climbs the tower again is taking a huge detour for absolutely no reason or reward. Considering most games are unfinished in much more important ways nowadays, this doesn’t feel like something worth complaining about.

Albeit, there was a lack of foresight with having half of the NPCs in the game talk about how cool Champion Leon is in SwSh, knowing that the dialogue wouldn’t be changed later. The best way to solve this issue is to circumvent it by just not having NPCs have dialogue that would age badly.

I may be remembering wrong, but I believe those do actually get their dialogues updated in gen 7 and 8... don't them?

No, you're not remembering wrong. In SM/USUM and SwSh those NPCs acknowledge you as the Champion after you've beaten the main story, I distinctly remember as such. Especially since one of the main parts of Gen 7's story is that you are Alola's first ever Champion and the game goes full throttle in acknowledging that. Sword and Shield continued that trend since unlike in past games, Leon officially loses his position as Champion after you defeat him and you are officially acknowledged as Galar's Champion.

I hate how people are complaining about the art style in bdsp so much. (the orginal gen 4 games were chibi)
The “chibi” design style doesn’t translate well from 2D to 3D imo. Not only that, but every main line game since XY has had, more or less, the same design style for avatars (ofc with some changes and updates to head/body size, nothing too major though). The chibi style is just a big departure from that and it seems kinda out of nowhere since there hasn’t been precedence for this level of chibi-fication in any recent games, even let’s go is nowhere near this. Also, I think most people’s problem is with the wonky proportions of the chibi avatars, with almost no torso but large feet and hands. In addition, the top down angle doesn’t work very well imo from what we’ve seen so far. I don’t want to stare at hats all day. I really think they COULD make the chibi art style work, they just didn’t execute it quite right.

The argument that people should be happy with these games as chibi because DPP were chibi is faulty af. It’s kinda like saying people shouldn’t be mad if FRLG or Lets Go were in black and white, because the originals were that way (thats a bit more obviously a technology thing, but you get the point). I would presume that the art style of 2D Pokémon was more a limitation of what the technology could do at the time and what looked good on the hardware rather than gamefreak specifically wanting a chibi art style. Chibi worked well on the game boy/advance/DS but it doesn’t translate as well to the 3D style switch. If they were really all on board the chibi train then all of the recent gens would look like BDSP.

I mean... It is a freaking chibi. :smogduck:

People are just malding for no reason tbh.

BDSP?
"Chibis suck! Why not Plat! I want Megas! It looks like a mobile game!"

Ok, so here's Legends!
"It looks bad! Framerate! Not enough mons in the overworld! I want Megas! It ALSO looks like a mobile game!"

Like bro, we barely got info on either and Legends clearly looks like an early build.

Entire 30 min videos out there with not one positive thing to say. Come on. This is almost a parody at this point.

The people acting like the art style is the end of the world have really messed-up priorities IMO. Are looks really going to make or break this RPG for people?
