First go-around
The first Pokemon game I owned was Pokemon Red. I was in fourth or fifth grade. As a matter of fact I recall getting a clear game boy pocket specifically for pokemon. I became obsessed and got pokemon yellow and stadium. I would venture to guess that Yellow was the first game I broke the century mark in hours played. Completing my Pokedex was one of my fondest gaming moments (except the degree was a bit lame in hindsight). Anyway, overgrew the fad and sold all three. My only remaining link was Pokemon Snap, which I refused to sell because I got a 10,000 point Mew pic. As far as battling development, the only thing that really stuck was the type chart, I do not even recall special v. attacks really clicking. I did beat Stadium R2, but that was solely because of my first Mewtwo.
The Return
So the year is 2002, and I haven't touched hand held games in years. We plan a family vacation to Ocean City, Maryland (about an 8 hour drive one way). Well, I am going to need some gaming action. Low and behold, I find a GBA arctic with Pokemon Crystal at my local BestBuy. I pick it up and I am hooked. I played that game over 200 hours and that is why I first began reading guides on breeding. At this point my battling skills are still well below competitive. I convinced my younger brother to buy a used Silver game and I got a used Yellow that had a Mew on it. By this point i have a fairly decent understanding of battling, but nothing like the competitive arena. For the first time I realized the value of stat changing moves and the uses of Baton pass. After a while, I let the series go again, but this time kept the games.
Last fall was my first semester in college at Case Western, and there are finally people who enjoy games as much as I do. Pokemon is obviously still not accepted in every circle, but it has an underground following with D/P. Anyway, lat winter break I got caught up with the Advanced versions going with LeafGreen and Emerald. While I do enjoy going through the game, and watching my pokemon grow "naturally(?)" I was determined to
take a bite out the Battle Frontier. I began surfing sites for team building ideas, but smogon was not one of them. I had some friends at Case who net battled and used smogon as a reference, but I always forgot the address, and couldn't find it searching. Anway, this fall I found the site again, but it had been partially down. I slowly watched the progress and now that my finals are over have decided to join the fray. Great Job everyone who works this site.
Quick Question: Where is a good place to get pictures to choose one for my signature (not sure if thats the right term). I am not at all a computer science person, but do not want my posts to look so plain. Thanks
