How did you find Smogon?

I found Smogon while looking for a moveset for a pokemon. Somebody on psypoke said "try smogon". Can't remember what the pokemon was, but Smogon changed they way I looked at the game.

How I got into Pokemon:

Basically, it was the craze of the time. I just fell right into it. I always thought the anime was kinda lame, but the game was addicting as hell. I eventually leveled up all my Pokemon to level 100 in Blue, and I was so proud of that. Pretty sure my Blastoise had Surf, Hydro Pump, Strength, and something else, lol.

How I found Smogon:

I basically found Smogon through NSider, Nintendo's forums. They've closed though, so I'm here and at NSider 2, basically a replacement forums. Don't wanna link it though because I don't really wanna infraction. I was the biggest n00b until D/P. I had horrible movesets and everything; the first Pokemon I caught would go on my "competitive" team. I would basically just own the E4 over and over and tell myself I'm good, lol.

Well, I needed some competitive help, and somebody said "try Smogon." I was still a n00b back then so I wasn't any good. I've gotten a lot better though, and I'm constantly improving.

That's it.

How I got into Pokemon:

I got Red version as a Christmas present way back then and I played it "addictively" as only a 5 year old would. Once gameboy color came out I bought it and I also got crystal version. The game was fun, I caught all the possible legends and I played the battle tower over and over again. When R/S/E came out I lost interest because it was not as good as crystal. When D/P came out I looked into it and I decided to try it out. After a day was addicted to it. Finished it in a week. Then I discovered IV/EV/Natures/STAB/Ect.... and it changed the way I played pokemon.

How I found Smogon:

I heard Mariland talk about this place alot on his youtube battles. So after I became more competitive I checked this place out. I have now been on here more than Serebii, Pojo, Mariland forums combined during my free time.

-There is my story.......

I got into Pokemon ever since B/R/Y came out when I was still quite little.
I gave it a rest after G/S/C but got back into it when D/P came out and have been playing since I even brought Pearl, I even brought Emerald to catch up on the 3rd Gen :)

I found Smogon watching a Marriland vid, he said 'Go to Smogon or something if you want to see some really good players', and being a pretty new online battler and only hanged around on Serebii chatroom I decided to check this place out hopefully to improve my skill and knowledge and also find people who won't D/C when battling :)

How I got in to Pokemon:It was a big fad around and I decided to play it, and I liked it.

How I found smogon:A Link on IGN.

I got into Pokemon when I was like 9 years old (anime on my tv) and bought crystal, yellow, sapphire, ruby, emerald. I have crystal's and ruby's pokedex about 99% completed and I played for a lot of hours.
When Pearl and Diamond were released I didn't bought them since I don't have a DS and got bored of Pokemon anyway.
Currently I don't play any Pokemon at all.

I may be using competitor since there is no boring breeding and stuff included.

I found about smogon when I was viewing serebiiforums and someone mentioned it's name, so I googled it.

I started playing right before middle school after I saw the ads for red/blue on television (remember the one commercial where they try to pile like fifty pokemon onto a bus?). Soon after would follow about 3 years of obsessiveness over the franchise. In high school I traded in my video gamer gloves for cardboard, in the form of Magic: the Gathering.

Recently, I bought Diamond and was baffled by all the new features, and had never even heard of things like IVs, EVs, and all the competitive battling lingo used on the gameFAQs pages. I read a walkthrough by some dude named Marriland who referenced this site, and came hear to see what was up.

How I first started playing Pokemon

Well, it all started in the first grade or something like that in 1999... one day, my mom bought me Pokemon Yellow version, since I wanted to play Pokemon just like my big brother (he's lost interest in it now). Once I started, it was so hard to stop. After Pokemon Gold and Silver came out, I started playing that, but I lost it. I just kept playing Yellow version instead.

How I got into competive battling/Smogon

After a humiliating loss that's been recorded on Youtube (it's still there, oh no!), you can call that a turning point in my campaign thingy. Before that battle, I was blissfully unaware of what natures did, EV training, and stuff like that. But after that, I started paying attention to those things, and now I'm a much better player than I was before. I still lose quite a lot, but hey, it's an improvement...

As for Smogon, I knew about it for a while, I started looking at the list of Pokemon and the ideal movesets & stats for them. I soon thought that maybe I might be able to see how I can do against the people who come here, so I decided to register, and here I am!

First go-around
The first Pokemon game I owned was Pokemon Red. I was in fourth or fifth grade. As a matter of fact I recall getting a clear game boy pocket specifically for pokemon. I became obsessed and got pokemon yellow and stadium. I would venture to guess that Yellow was the first game I broke the century mark in hours played. Completing my Pokedex was one of my fondest gaming moments (except the degree was a bit lame in hindsight). Anyway, overgrew the fad and sold all three. My only remaining link was Pokemon Snap, which I refused to sell because I got a 10,000 point Mew pic. As far as battling development, the only thing that really stuck was the type chart, I do not even recall special v. attacks really clicking. I did beat Stadium R2, but that was solely because of my first Mewtwo.

The Return
So the year is 2002, and I haven't touched hand held games in years. We plan a family vacation to Ocean City, Maryland (about an 8 hour drive one way). Well, I am going to need some gaming action. Low and behold, I find a GBA arctic with Pokemon Crystal at my local BestBuy. I pick it up and I am hooked. I played that game over 200 hours and that is why I first began reading guides on breeding. At this point my battling skills are still well below competitive. I convinced my younger brother to buy a used Silver game and I got a used Yellow that had a Mew on it. By this point i have a fairly decent understanding of battling, but nothing like the competitive arena. For the first time I realized the value of stat changing moves and the uses of Baton pass. After a while, I let the series go again, but this time kept the games.

Last fall was my first semester in college at Case Western, and there are finally people who enjoy games as much as I do. Pokemon is obviously still not accepted in every circle, but it has an underground following with D/P. Anyway, lat winter break I got caught up with the Advanced versions going with LeafGreen and Emerald. While I do enjoy going through the game, and watching my pokemon grow "naturally(?)" I was determined to
take a bite out the Battle Frontier. I began surfing sites for team building ideas, but smogon was not one of them. I had some friends at Case who net battled and used smogon as a reference, but I always forgot the address, and couldn't find it searching. Anway, this fall I found the site again, but it had been partially down. I slowly watched the progress and now that my finals are over have decided to join the fray. Great Job everyone who works this site.

Quick Question: Where is a good place to get pictures to choose one for my signature (not sure if thats the right term). I am not at all a computer science person, but do not want my posts to look so plain. Thanks

How I got into Pokemon:
I think when I was in year 2 or 3, I got the Yellow Version and Silver version for my Birthday or Christmas present. That's when I actually started to play the game Pokemon. I soon got Crystal version after that because I lost my Silver version (yes, I was pretty spoiled in my younger days) and I got more addicted.

When I first knew about Pokemon, however, was when I was in Kindergaten in 1998, when I was watching those morning cartoon shows and Pokemon came up for the first time IIRC.

How I found Smogon:
Every single forum I went to that has a Pokemon forum in it. After I started Shoddying, people kept saying Smogon this, Smogon that, according to Smogon, this pokemon is OU blah blah blah.

I finally went to check it out and registered back in August but I've never been active till now.

How I started competitive battling
I actually only started competitive battling this year during this generation when I was really sick and had nothing to do, so I decided to just read about Pokemon (I was that bored), and so I thought this game might be a lot more fun playing competitively than playing in-game. I guess I was right.

How I got into Pokemon:

I started playing Pokemon Blue during early high school when the games launched in 1998, I also have Yellow/Silver/Crystal (still surprised that Silver and Crystal still works after all these years since I heard all the stories about the batteries dying ... Note to Nintendo: Make a DS remake for G/S/C please?). But I skipped third gen save for LeafGreen because I didn't have a GBA back when Gen III games were out, now that I have a DS and Pokemon Pearl, I am going to catch up on Gen III once my copies of R/S/E arrive.

How I found Smogon:

Some of my friends told me about it on how it has lots of comprehensive resources and guides. Regardless on what some people say, I feel Smogon is nice for the fact that people can talk in depth about the games and their mechanics without people going "overage ban, stop making the game too complicated" =/ I guess that if I am to start battling (at least not in Shoddy), I better go start IV breeding ...

How I got into Pokemon:

Like most people i got the orginal game when i was rather young, and enjoyed the crap out of them. started with my Blue, finished the Dex, and since then its been off and on and i have all the games.

How I found Smogon:

I was searching for netbattle and i had heard so much about it on other sites. Then i downloaded it, got torn apart and all of a sudden i realized "hey smogon is probably a site lets check it out" and then the rest is history.

How I first started playing pokemon:

I was 6 and pokemon had just come out in North America on Television and everyday after school i watched it with a pack of cherry blasters :P My birthday came around and I got Pokemon red and A gameboy Pocket. Don't remember actually which birthday it was but you know:P I have my first saved game file still on the cartridge. I have 148 pokemon only needing Mew, Staryu, and Starmie only available in blue as far as I know. None of my friends today know where there games are.

Also I got pokemon blue but i wasn;t allowed to play it until i beat Red:P

How I started battling online/How I found out about Smogon:

I found out about Smogon through Marriland on Youtube. In August I finally got pokemon pearl because i just didn't get around to buying it earlier. And I beat the game and Imported my pokemon but realized that my friend who was playing was no challenge at all. So I bought a wifi connector to complete my dex and when I did I was bored so I went on Youtube and so stupid guy (marriland) said that if you wanted to find the best battler in the world to come here. So I did

------> Thats the game

How I got into Pokemon: About eight years ago, Red/Blue versions came out... I loved the pictures, so there I bought. I played through them over and over until G/S game out. I got a bit of a Pokegasm when Ruby and so came out and easily figured out and took note on how it worked, which has set the basis for D/P theory for me.

How I found Smogon: I was told to come here through a Shoddy Battle... I'm pretty good all-around, but more of an expert in theory... Metagame and such.

hmmm...when did I first get into pokemon?...It was a long time ago, probly when about eight years ago. My first gameboy was the gameboy color and my first game was yellow version. I soon picked up red and blue and have owned every version since. I still have yellow, red, blue, gold, silver, chrystal, sapphire (dunno where ruby is..:/), emerald, firered (cousin still has LG), diamond, and pearl. On my firered I had the first 251 pkmn, and 307 overall. I'm not really concerned with completing the dexes anymore, but more about improving my team. I really wanna start wifi battling, so tell me if you're interested!

I learned about Smogon through a comment on a youtube video...google searched...and here I am

How I Got Into Pokemon: I got into pokemon when I was about 7 years old and I thought the show was great, so I thought the game would be great too. Ever since then, I've been playing pokemon, but I was a super noob back then. But now I consider myself to be a pretty good battler, not the best, but good.

How I Found Out About Smogon: I found out about Smogon when my friend told me about it when he found out about it from a random person on Serebii. He told me this site was great. So I couldn't pass up a great site like this and I'm glad I didn't.

How I Got Into Pokemon: I've been playing Pokemon since Red/Blue, but firstly was introduced to me by my friend the Crystal Version. Jesus, i was so happy playing a Pokemon game for the first time, only watch the anime wasn't fun... I catched about every rattata/pidgey that appeared in my way, used things like water pokemon with bubblebeam/water gun/waterfall/bubble, and all other noob stuffs. Good times... all was so simple to me.

How I Found Smogon:
A friend of mine showed me a site with some strategies and movesets a loong time ago, and was Smogon. Nowadays, I'm playing for competitive battle, and some threads here really helped me, so now I decided to register myself.

How I found out about Pokemon

In france, where I lived at least there wasn't anyone else playing pokemon so it was very hard for to think competitevly outside the game and even harder to complete my pokedex. However when we moved to England that started to change, I seemed that EVERYONE was playing and my little in-game team just couldn't win anything. When R/S came out I decided that all had to change and soon my team was starting win a couple of battles
It was when D/P came out that I found that competetive battling was more fun than ever

How I found out about Smogon

Marriland video.

How I got into Pokemon
In my younger years (7-9), I came across Pokemon. It wasn't a Gameboy version of Pokemin, but Pokemon stadium.. My first gameboy version was Silver, then Ruby and now Pearl, with my experience getting slightly better each time.

How I found about Smogon?
I found out about Smogon while searching the internet, and found their knowledge on competitive battling to be excellent, so I decided to join the community.

How I first started playing pokemon:

The very first pokemon game I ever played way my friends pokemon red. Back then when I played it for a couple minutes and had absoloutly no idea what to do I had no interest in it what so ever. But then my friend let me borrow it for a few days and I started to get the hang of it, but because I still didnt really know it wasnt one of those basic, jump, punch, kick games I thought for certain things like, the escape rope for example, I had to press the direction he was facing in circles to escape...lol

How I found out about Smogon:

Well I found out about smogon not to long ago, when I was searching the web for some competitive battling tips, and I found a good site and I told this guy on a forum and he said "did it happen to be smogon?" and I said, "what's that?" and then he explained what it was and then I just came over and checked it out, I thought the competitive battling guide was extremely extensive and really well set out. But I didnt know of the forums until about a week after and here I am =P

My first post by the way =)

How I got into pokémon

In the first pokéhype, when the animé just started, lots of people were fan of it. Then, my neightbor showed me some stickers with the first 150 pokémon on it, and I was sold. I started to watch the animé, and tried to draw all the pokémon I saw on TV. About half a year later, I got a nintendo 64 for my birthday, together with pokémon stadium 1. Some time after that, Pokémon gold followed, and so on.

How I found smogon

When the first rumors about the 4th gen came out, I started googling a bit and found serebii. I spent lots of time just checking out the new pokémon (still with the japanese names), and after some time, I made an account on the forums. There I met some people, and they showed me netbattle. And from netbattle, I got to smogon.

How I first started playing pokemon:

I was 10 year old when my friend bought Pokemon Yellow in Spain. We fell in love with this game, thought we couldn't properly defeat brock for some time. ))) Then i bought Pokemon Gold, and this game was even more exciting, even that it was with crappy translation...

How I started battling online/How I found out about Smogon:

I started to visit Serebii very often, because i wanted to know Pokemon level-up and TM/HM attacks. Accidantally, i found the "pokemon of the week" section and i was impressed, how that movesets differed from mine. And later I started watching Wi-fi battle on YouTube, and I learned about Smogon from comments.
