How I first started playing Pokemon
When I got a copy of Yellow and a GameBoy Colour for my 11th birthday. I've been hooked to the series ever since, but only really got into the competitive side of it last August (damn my lack of internet and Pokemon-playing friends).

How I found out about Smogon
I started out (and am still an active user of) Official Nintendo Magazine's Pokemon board. It was there that I was first introduced to CB, and the two main links I recieved from various people were for Smogon and Serebii. After having used Smogon for it's comprehensive moveset analysis for some time, I decided to join the forum.

Well I started playing Pokemon when I was about 5, I had been watching the show since I was 4, and asked for Yellow version and a Gameboy for my B-Day, I then just got the others as they came out or as soon as I could up till Diamond, I started trying to get competitive maybe a month ago...

As for how I found smogon, I was trying to come up with some move sets for my Pokemon and my friend suggested that I check this site out, so I've been using it as a reference for a little under a month, and I finally decided to join recently.

user <SMOGON> Joel - 5112 0762 5279

This guy was on the serebii chat saying that he wanted to battle and was gonna put up the video on youtube. When he was leading he told me that if i dc'd he'd put it up on youtube to shame me. Then when he lost he dc'd. I came here to find out if he's the real smogon.

I first started playing Pokemon from the release of Pokemon Red. I played it frequently, however, I didn't put another Pokemon game until Pearl.

I found Smogon through the forums at Gamefaqs.com.

When you started playing: I first started playing pokemon about a year after it came out, (1996?), and have been since. I've got one version from every generation - Yellow, Blue, Gold, Silver, Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, and Diamond. Yellow, Gold, and Sapphire were given to me by a friend who has sworn off of pokemon forever :( Anyways, I started playing, and just today found out about smogon from a friend who uses the strategy pokedex. I looked it over, and started to make a team, but my team is a long way from being wifi worthy, especially with the lack a agility BP'er Competitive battling/smogon: As stated above, I was introduced to Smogon by a friend who uses the strat. dex. I only just started to take an interest in competitive battling, as just recently (like 2 days), I could access wifi. I haven't done any wifi battles yet, but I hope to after I get my team rated. I also looked for a DP Netbattle to test my team out with, but it's not on this site, so I don't know where to find one :( lol.Anyways, where can I find an Agility BP'er, and WHERE THE HECK DO YOU GET THE JOHTO STARTERS?????Nice meeting you all :D</p>

Alright, get this guys. You probably won't even believe this CRAAAAZAY story at all and I don't blame you. It is pretty damn nuts. It's hurt my head just thinking about it. Gosh, now my head hurts. But seriously, this story is like... epic. You can even make a movie out of it! (Copyright. It was my idea. If I see anyone make a movie out of this, I'm totally suing. Sueing? Sooing? How do you spell the damn wurd *angry face!*)

I just borrowed a yellow version from my cousin and never gave it back. Then I got hooked and bought every version.

(Hah. I bet you were all getting excited and stuff.)

How I found out about Smogon.
Welllllllll, I had never really battled online with pokemon before, never knew it could happen. Now I'm hearing about NetBattle and Shoddy and it's just blowing me up. But I've only played with myself (no sexual joke intended) because none of my friends had a link cable (damn their poor asses! and mine :D) So I went to look up WiFi battles on youtube and saw one of Marriland's videos. He said somethiing about him not being that great and if i wanted to see great, go to Smogon. So here I am. Now that WiFi is out, I want to be able to beat guys online too >:D I was hoping to get in on the tutor program, but alas, I'm totally late. (sad face)

How i first started playing POKEMON
Got blue because all of my friends had red and i wanted to shake it up. Been playing since.
How I found out about SMOGON
I learned about competitive battling on Gameewinners.com. Wer a mod there, told me pretty recently to join the apprentice program to get better and here i am.

How I started playing pokemon
I first started pokemon when i saw the anime on Channel 38 at the age of 8. Oddly enough it was one of my most vivid memory's, it was a rainy friday afternoon, i had just walked home for school and had to strip down to my underwear because i was drenched. I turned on tv and searched for something to watch and landed on a very odd cartoon. It was a Japanese cartoon called Pokemon, i was hooked right away. It was the episode when the ST.Ann sank and i was very upset when i learned that i had missed a few episodes from the begin but then i learned they would be showing the show from the beginning starting monday.

I found out over the weekend that there was a pokemon game for the GB and begged my brother to buy me it for my birthday next week and luckly he got me blue version, i ignored my party guests the rest of the night just to play that. From then on i was hooked on pokemon and got every game that came out on the day it came out even when the fad went away in about 5th grade and everyone thought i was weird for still playing it. Though since high school i stopped really playing it though i still bought diamond version. Though recently i decided id try the more completive side of the game.
How I found out about Smogon.
So well looking online for info on it i stumbled upon this site and learned that theres a lot more to battling then i thought. I look forward to learning all i can.

How I 1st started playing Pokémon:
Man, it's been so long ago that I can't quite recall enough of the details. All I know is that I played Pokémon Red, Blue, AND Yellow, and I also played Pokémon Stadium (which taught me how noobish I was at 1st before I started playing that game). I didn't play Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, but I did get to sample how the game has evolved since I last played Pokémon Stadium by playing its sequal, Pokémon Stadium 2. However, I only rented the game, but I did learn a few new things that would help me out in the later generations.

I later played Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, though I never completed either game, as my interest in the series tended to die down rather quickly due to a lack of local competition. However, I did complete my copy of Fire Red, but again, I didn't have much interest in the series. I also played Pokémon Colosseum (though I've yet to gain enough interest to complete the game) and a bit of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness as well (though I only completed all of the battle sim challenges on my brother's file).

When Pokémon Diamond and Pearl came out, my interest in the series was fueled so much by the fact that you could play on Wi-Fi that I got my copy of Pokémon Diamond (while my brother got a copy of Pokémon Pearl), though I again lost interest in the game. However, when Pokémon Battle Revolution came out with the possibility of battling against all sorts of random players, I finally gained enough interest in the series that I completed my copy of Pokémon Diamond, bought a copy of PBR for the Nintendo Wii, and started doing some research on all sorts of things before I decided on how I would design my teams.

How I found out about Smogon.
Not long before I 1st got my copy of Pokémon Diamond, I started to dive into the realm of online chatting for the 1st time in my life (which was a little more than a year ago), so I might still be a bit new to this. Anyways, I 1st heard about PBR from a forum friend of mine from another forum that I visit often. She owned a copy of the game, and posted some videos of her battles onto YouTube, which eventually got me interested in getting PBR for myself in the process. (Her username on YouTube is "Overhazard" in case anyone was curious.)

While I was planning on how my team would be designed, I searched a number of sites that would help me out in terms of deciding how I'd design my team. Some sites that I frequently visited for those purposes included www.legendarypokemon.net, veekun.com, and, of course, Smogon.

I had heard about Smogon University from a variety of posts that I read on YouTube. I might've also heard about this site from Bulbapedia as well. Eventually, I decided to check it out. At 1st, I only wanted to check out the "Strategy Pokédex's" entries to a variety of Pokémon and see what Smogon thinks about those Pokémon, though at times, I was usually somewhat disappointed with the selection of popular strategies and the lack of strategies that I myself liked to use.

Later on, I decided to check out the forums as well. One such section of the forums (the "rate-my-team" section) caught my eye and was a motivating factor for me to join and try to submit my own team's designs and see what the rest of you guys might think about my team.

How I found out about pokemon: I got cards one day, and asked my grandma to give me a GBC and Crystalversion. The first spark that led to my burning passion for those loveable fighting machines.

How I found Smogon:
When I heard about DP coming out, I went to serebii (not the forums) and started researching what the new generations will be like, which was the first step in rekindling my old love for pokemon. Me and my friend (the only who still continued to like pokemon) talked about pokemon and the generations, speculating on what would come up and whatnot. He happened to come across a website called smogon one day, and showed me to it. I began looking at it myself, and didn't quite understand all the movesets and such, and until DP came out, it lay forgotten in my mind. After I started playing, I began stalking smogon forums for about a half a year or so, and teaching myself about the aspects of competitive battling. I didn't quite understand all the concepts, but that was okay, because I knew there would be people willing to help, afterall, people there seemed pretty nice if you weren't a total idiot. So I joined, but refrained from posting, because I was still pretty ignorant in the field of competitive battling, so I looked around other forums to help teach me. Eventually I was EV training my pokes, got alot of the basic aspects, and some of the more difficult ones to grasp, and began posting. And this is where I stand today. I know alot about competitive battling, but still in the dark about alot of things. And so I joined to further my knowledge, and maybe help out some people needed help.

I was searching for my own names, and then I found these forums again.

But I haven't watched Pokemon in since forever. Care to fill me in here? o_0

I dont understand why you would need to watch Pokemon... none of us really do. Unless you thought we talk about the pokemon anime here... if you want to talk about the anime than go to serebii....

How I first started playing pokemon:
Pretty much the same way everyone else did, from the gameboy game.
How I started battling online/How I found out about Smogon:
After becoming a pokemon freak, I had decided to look for some way of playing pokemon online. To my satisfaction, I found Netbattle, where I learned more about competitive battling, which was where I first found out about Smogon.

o marriland. it's the same with me. before i played shoddy i just played pokemon on my gba emulator :D. i downloaded metalkid's software ad just got completely hooked on planning pokemon. i'll be doing homework and have the sidden urge to write a set down :D. a year or so later i decided to look up some videos on youttube. of course, marriland's name jumped out at me with his high quality (in terms of graphics etc.) vids. i was hooked. i posted on marriland for a while and realized that they couldn't teach me anything after a week. i tried out smogon and i never turned back :D.

How I first started playing pokemon:

I was like 7 years old, and I had a gameboy. I watched Pokemon all the time which led me to buying Blue, to Red, to Yellow, to Gold, to Crystal, to Ruby, to Leaf Green, to Emerald, to Japanese Pearl and English Diamond.

How I started battling online/How I found out about Smogon:

Well, I played NetBattle a whole lot, and to be honest, at that time I hated Smogon.I only played in one server, and they were experts who helped me understand the inter-workings of the metagame. I took a long absence from Pokemon, when my grades started slipping. I came back this year, and found out that there was a D/P metagame, and after seeing the official server, I decided to change my mind about Smogon and joined in. :3

Got into it just like everyone else.

Unlike how other people are explaining it though, I didn't seek out netbattle (or know of it). I found out after lurking serebii.net and someone actually suggested in a post the website (which I usually don't click links) but I went ahead this time and found what I was searching for! All the other websites are not comprehensive enough with the moves/abilities and other useful information that smogon provides. But still I haven't battled online using their methods and actually prefer the good ol' way of playing. In other words, how ash battles. Hah. I still need to beat the three games though before I even get to battling online. So who knows maybe my perspective will be different when that time comes. However I think limiting movesets and options for people only limits the games enjoyment. Thats why I am making my own movesets, with help from smogon!

I would have to say my fondest memories of watching pokemon were when I was a child, 4/5 in the morning it would come on and I would rush to get Cinnamon Toast Crunch and I would sit there and watch it and eat before school. :P

How I got into Pokemon:

Played the game in high school, and watched the cartoon when it first came out. Yes, I watched that in HS. Played all generations minus the second, because I didn't have a Game Boy Color.

How I found Smogon:

I got D/P, and played it for a while. Months and months later, I realized that the online wi-fi meant there could be competition (though I didn't realize how deep the game could get because I never read up on information about the game). Found Smogon by chance. I've perused competitive gaming sites for other genres, so I have a good feeling of what's quality and not. Good shit here.

I was playing my GBA Cartridges and I was looking for info on various pokemon so I ended up at Pokerealm then here after searching some more

I started Pokemon...

How did I start Pokemon:
My rich aunt gave me Pokemon Yellow and the yellow Gameboy Color for my birthday. I became obsessed. Now I have yellow, gold, ruby, sapphire, emerald, leaf green, fire red, pearl, and diamond. Unrelated, I have ranger, trozei, dash, and mystery dungeon blue.

How I came here:
I played Diamond recently (I gave pearl to my sis) and I decided to learn strategy after discovering that having 100% damaging moves was not very good. Serebii wasn't very much help except for the pokedex. I used google and came to Legendary Pokemon. There, on the comments section someone posted a link to here and here I am!

I started with/how

Found a Pokemon PSYCHIC energy card under some leaves. Looked into what Pokemon was and liked what I learned. Interest then continued purely with the games. Art for the cards is still appreciated.

Never really found Smogon. Rather, I have read the name mentioned now and then from several sources and many people. Notably speaking, gamefaqs. Read the mention early 2007 when I signed for pe2k forum board.

How I Started Pokemon:
Well, this is probably no different than a lot of people, but I first got into pokemon because my best friend got hooked to pokemon blue. He asked if I wanted to try and I said sure. I got just as hooked. I picked up red to be a little different, later got blue, and the rest is history. Picked up every game (though i have lost a few) and, though I was always a complete n00b until D/P, now I'm just kind of a n00b.

How I found Smogon:
A bunch of people at shoddy battle were talking about the site, so I decided to check it out. The people here really know what they are talking about, so I joined to try to absorb a little of the omnipresent knowledge here. Yup.

How I found Smogon:
I heard some sort of rumor that smogon was full of evil devil people or something and I got curious. I checked out the site and it really changed my perspective on competitive battling, so after a few months of lurking I decided to make an account.
