How did you find Smogon?

How I first started playing pokemon:
Got Pokemon Red and a GBC for what was probably my fifth Christmas. Apart from having few people to trade with that was one of the most awesome-est games I've every played. So many run throughs, I feel like I know that game like the back of my hand. Next was silver which was pretty awesome as I had more access to trading. By RSE there wern't many people playing it in my area so I didn't advertise it too readily. When D/P came out I was surprised by the amount of Pokemon in my school that actually play (not competitivly) that you could talk to. It was nice even if they didn't know about competitive play and wern't all that interested in it after a month or two.

How I started battling online/How I found out about Smogon:
When looking for info about D/P (having finally discovered the internet >.>) I cam across Serebii which gave a wealth of information on it's main pages but a ton of idiocy in it's forum. I was mainly in the 4th Gen RMT section and by virtue of that I found out about the Smogon Analysis. Any site with those kind of articles was worth a second look, and that's how I found Smogon.

As for Pokemon, I was eight and received it after my friends at school showed it to me. Pokemon Red was my first... it got snapped in half and I promptly received a Blue version. Then I got Gold/Silver. However, I ignored Generation III completely. I missed out on a lot.

As for Smogon, I actually forgot. I probably saw it on Bulbapedia.

When i first started playing pokemon

I started watching the anime when I was only about 7 or 8 years old. Then, my cousin got the games, and I played them when I was around his house. Of course, we both sucked at it, we were in year 3, for Christ's sake. I actually waited until the GSC period before I got my first game though. Before that, my cousin always let me borrow the old R/B/Y. I bought Emerald when it came out, then Diamond and Pearl. So Emerald was my first game, but I knew about it since I was like 7 or 8 years old.

When I started competitive play

Cannot remember. I know that it was when I was in my early 13 though, and my cousin was having a Netbattle match, so I got interested. (So as you have guessed, being a 14 year old I usually make an ass of myself in the forums.)

That was actually when I discovered the RSE period, and was surprised that I had missed out quite a bit when I borrowed (surprise surprise) Sapphire from my cousin. I even thought Skarmory was RSE!

I started with Netbattle, and sucked at it, but I did not care much, it was just fun.

How I first started playing pokemon:

I had seen signs for it at Electronics Boutique in the late summer of 1998, and decided it sounded like fun. I had also started watching the anime around that time, and was quite amused by it. It seemed like something fun to do while I was on break at my high school's Band Camp and also on those long competition trips; so I bought Red on the first Camp day's dinner break. I got really into it, and had a lot of fun with it--eventually buying Blue also, and Yellow when it appeared.

I became bored with the anime, and stopped watching it a little into where Satoshi (Ash) was battling in the Pokemon league, but I still loved the games regardless. I bought Silver and Crystal when it came out, for curiosity's sake, and also for the novelty of being a female trainer, as I being female, always wanted to play as one. After that, I really didn't play anymore until I was given FireRed as a gift by a friend.

Many of my old college friends started playing Diamond and Pearl, as well as my boyfriend (who bought me a copy of Diamond), so I have just recently started playing again. I'm quite happy with all the new intricacies!

Competitive Battling:
While I was playing Red, a lot of people in band with me were as well. So, we began to battle each other--and it became so common that we would have a "tournament" every week during the Competition season on the bus, playing each other as we traveled to our marching festivals.

When Stadium came out for the N64, a local card store near me began to hold tournaments, and I attended; finishing very well most weekends and winning a good bit of them also. But, when the card store closed, the tournaments stopped, and my competitive battling dwindled. I played a few people for old times' sake, as well as for fun even into college, but it really wasn't much.

At the moment, I'm trying to level my Diamond team to a good potential (as I just got the game recently) so I can battle at an upcoming convention against some friends I've not seen in a while; and also to enter a tournament if they have one this year.

How did I hear about Smogon?
A good friend of mine, Felix and I were talking on the phone recently, and he spoke about online Pokemon battling, and gave me the site address. It seemed intriguing, so I went to look it up. As I looked around the site, I realized how much I missed playing, and how fun it was. So, I've finally gotten the time to join; and I think I'll really enjoy it here. I'm looking forward to battling again.

Nice to meet you all ^_^

How i first Started Playing Pokemon

I think it was either 97 or 98 when my Mom bought me Pokemon Red. I fell in love with it. i remember i never raised any other pokemon but my charizard. By the time i reached the elite four it was maybe about level 91 lol. I then watched the anime, and i loved pokemon ever since. :D

Competitive Battling

Well i first downloaded netbattle. I remember making a team with no knowledge whatsoever. I remember i tried to center my team around my Umbreon which knew double team, lol. It was fun though. I then got deeply into it in D/P. Especially when i saw the strategies on this site.

Smogon

I saw a lot of people on gfaqs talking about smogon. So i googled it, and here it was lol. Ever since i saw the tier list and stuff i bookmarked it...lol

i never created an account tell about, like 15 minutes ago :)

How I first started playing Pokemon

I began playing Pokemon when I got my Yellow version in '99, I think. I got fucking hooked on the little monsters. I loved watching the anime. I always thought Pikachu was the best >_>

Competitive Battling

I first started competitive battling once D/P came out. In R/S/E, all I really bred for were usable natures. I didn't know about IVs until D/P came out. Then I realized how easy it was to EV train and breeding became fun. I eventually started making teams and it was fun.

Smogon

I first found Smogon when someone on IRC linked me to a thread. I forget which one but it was informative. I eventually started to lurk around and used the strategy dex for a bit. Soon enough, I registered for an account because I wanted to do a Breeding thread which was very successful. I bred for about 7 people and I did pretty well. I think that thread is lost now.

I first began playing pokemon yellow, and since then, played every pokemon game.

I recently started to competitive battle, 1 year ago.

I learned about Smogon from a friend a Shoddy battle.

First Started:

I was young and got Pokemon Red as my first game. It was so good and I played all the time although not competively. When I got gold I became a Pokeaddict because it was so good as well. I played pokemon my whole life. That is when I found the internet

Found Pokemon Boards on Internet:

I was amazed at the secrets of Pokemon that I soon discovered and went online to see if there anymore. I was shocked to see that there were communities with hundereds of players. I quickly joined Gamefaqs. I became a well-known player as well as a great netbattler when I first joined.

Found Smogon:

At this time I had become a vet of Netbattle and of the Gamefaqs Pokemon Emerald board. It was also about this time I met and got to know 6 People: Jeff_L, Gormenghast, GGFan, Imperfectluck, Taylor, and Clad. Jeff came screaming onto Gamefaqs about an alliance and the faction a guy named Taylor has made. He said that Taylor was going to destroy Netbattle and make everyone slaves of his off netbattle. Now jeff was obviously crazy and we ignored him as taylor came in and put a stop to his nonsense. Meanwhile a guy named GGfan (who I knew nothing about) and a kid named clad (Who was like the cool guy of faqs) talked about a website called smogon. They called it a bad place. However I had a friend on faqs named imperfectluck. He told me that smogon was a cool place for poke info and competiveness. I decided not to join; a mistake I regret as I wish I could have joined earlier. However around this time a kid named gormenghast came back to gamefaqs from this smogon website. And damn was gorm funny. He was always making jokes and was pretty cool. Gorm then taught me some stuff about netbattle and team building. Some people hated him but I didnt care. gorm was cool. Anyway I had eventually beaten gormenghast a few times although he was always better (I think mopcross (which gorm taught me about) and Clefable were my 2 best pokemon to use against him). Anyway gorm told me that I should go to smogon as well as ipl who told me I should visit it especially for the tourney coming up. I decided to check it out and man was smogon impressive. It was like my dream pokemon website. And now I am an active member. Smogon is just cool man.

I have to say major props to gorm and ipl. Without them I would never have found smogon.

How I first started playing pokemon:

When I was in the third or fourth grade, Gold and Silver had been released, and so everybody had them. Due to all my friends telling me how awesome the games were, I wanted one, and so on my birthday that year my parents bought me a Game Boy Advance, with Pokemon Gold. (I know Gold is a GBC game, but the GBA had recently been released :P)

Before I knew it, I was hooked.

How I started battling online

Simple, when Diamond and Pearl came out. In previous games, I would always start training, but halfway through think 'What's the point?', as I had nobody to battle. So when Diamond and Pearl shipped with the promise of online battling, I couldn't wait to start battling other people and testing out my teams. Now, okay, technically I still have never had a battle online, but my team IS in training, and it will be ready one day. xP

How I found out about Smogon

It was likely on Serebii, in some discussion or another. Checked out the Pokedex, found it highly useful, tried signing up for the forums but my account was never activated, but I got help from "chaos on the internet" and my account was fixed.

How I first started playing pokemon:

I first got into Pokemon when Red and Blue were released here and my friend got them. I didn't get the games right away, though...my first one was Yellow (I got the special GBC that came out when it was released, too). I became obsessed pretty quickly and ended up watching the anime, playing the card game, collecting the figures, reading the manga, etc. I played RBY somewhat competitively later on and entered local tournaments. I've loved Pokemon since then (but didn't play third gen competitively at all).

How I started battling online/How I found out about Smogon:

When third gen was out I had a lot going on (and not much money to even buy the games). I ended up with a copy of Ruby version which I enjoyed but I found it difficult to get into like previous games. When Diamond and Pearl came out, though, I remember my brother getting Diamond and going on and on about it. It seemed really cool and I loved the idea of battling/trading over wifi so I got my own copy. That was when I got back into competetive battling (had a lot to learn, too, since I had never EV-trained before or anything). Technically I started battling online before then since I had tried out NetBattle back when it started but I didn't do it a lot until finding Shoddy last summer. I don't remember how I found Smogon but I think someone gave me a link when I was looking for EV spreads or something.
