So I'm thinking about using Tapu Fini bulky calm mind set, but I'm worried about its viability as a pivot because it lacks regeneration outside of leftovers and draining kiss.
It’s good as Draining Kiss helps heal a lot against specific opponents, but it can run into specific strong checks or counters that make it inconsistent. It is certainly viable though!

Whilst I know we're not supposed to ask when the VR is going to open again, is there any reason why it needs to be shut without Zamazenta-C unbanned?
I had to handle a dozen different things this morning at once, including locking other threads (I.e: suspect and voter ID), so I honestly just forgot to unlock it when I woke up and posted the verdict. I’m going to go ahead and open it momentarily — thanks for the polite reminder!

What was the round four suspect? I'm legit curious about this due to me finding the arena trap suspect and found that after the iron man round three was switching gears round five. I even tried pressing ctrl f and the overused forums had no texts that says 'round 4'. Would anyone also share a link as I am legitimately curious?

What Katy said was correct, but for future reference, just check through the blind voting section for any suspect votes: https://www.smogon.com/forums/forums/blind-voting.155/ and the history of this subforum for suspect discussion threads!

I have come to know the power of pivoting moves on balance teams (VoltTurnPort) and usually naturally end up with at least one mon that has that. But is the conventional wisdom that you should have at least one defensive mon with a pivoting move in its arsenal?

It’s not a necessity, but it absolutely helps enable fragile breakers and sweepers, generating free openings. I would say look for it and if it fits, cool. If not, don’t stress it!

what's the best melmetal set / what is its niche compared to other steels?
sets used are either band, lefties with dib,eq,protect toxic, or AV with same moves as band. The best thing about it is that it is capable of trading with offensive mons very well by sponging their attack and then KOing back with its massive attack stat

How viable are Garchomp, Hydreigon, Kartana and Lele if they use a choice scarf? Like would they be great, just meh or downright horrible with it?

Lele and Kartana work decently with some support; both do particularly well against opposing offense when using a choice scarf. Garchomp is rarely ever worth using as a choice scarfer this generation though -- as the above poster says.

So I’ve been trying to create Volcanion rain, but I can’t get past my Pelipper + Volcanion core. I’m 2 weeks into my laddering/teambuilding but i still couldn’t decide what mons to use. I’ve used numerous mons, but I still couldn’t find a team that appeals to my taste + gets me above the 1400s. What mons could I pair up with Peli and Volc?

Hello VTaxi,

Volcanion for sure is a heat Pokemon to build around in rain teams, but both Pelipper and Volcanion like partners, which can cover up threats such as Kartana, Rillaboom, and Tapu Bulu. Also it appreciates faster teammates for sure and an Electric-type resists or even an immune to Electric-type STAB attacks. I would recommend something in this direction:

You can use Tornadus-T over Zapdos, if you prefer breaking power with a Nasty Plot-boost. But this could be an option to try out.
Ferrothorn can cover up Rillaboom, Tapu Bulu, and kartana, and it further helps against Electric-types such as Tapu Koko and Zeraora and it can check Tapu Lele as well. Seismitoad gives that team a great Electric-type resistance, and Pelipper can act as a supportive tool, meanwhile Ferrothorn can set entry hazards with either Stealth Rocks or Spikes. I feel this or a similar structure can help you a lot for laddering purposes.

Hope that helped :)

Tysm for the advice :D
I’ll be sure to test it a lot :bloblul:

edit: also, btw, what set should be used on seismitoad?

Seismitoad @ Life Orb
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Scald
- Sludge Wave
- (optional)

something like this can work, if you want to lure in slowking, as this could be worriesome for your seismitoad, you could option the last slot with Power Whip as it 2HKOes Slowking on the switch and punishes it for a careless switch. You can also put Stealth Rock in there and give Ferrothorn Spikes to further pressure with entry hazards, as Spikes pressure a lot of Pokemon currently. You can also opt it with Rain Dance to get more turns going, but usually Pelipper with Damp Rock is enough.

Do you generally want at least one Special attack specialist on HO?
I personally run a mixture between physical and special attackers on hyper offense, as they cover each other up really well and can deal with a multitude of checks with overwhelming them in the long run. I personally would suggest a mixture between those two.

However, hyper offense teams with mostly physical attackers can also get away with overwhelming the shared checks quite easily. So it isn't impossible to build with mostly physical attackers. An example could be Garchomp, Rillaboom, Scizor, Weavile, Kartana, Bisharp, and Hawlucha and other physical sweepers such as Dragon Dance Dragapult, Bulk Up Urshifu-R, and Zeraora.

If you do look for special attackers on hyper offensive teams, here are some suggestions: Nasty Plot Tornadus-T, Quiver Dance Volcarona, Nasty Plot Hydreigon, Calm Mind Tapu Lele, and to a lesser degree Nasty Plot Gengar, Primarina, Latios, and Galarian Moltres.

But in general most people like to have a mixture between those two different attackers (physical and special attackers) on their hyper offensive teams.

I have a few questions:

:Gengar: Is Gengar viable when it runs Nasty Plot + 3 attacks? Shadow Ball for neutral + Sludge Wave for fairies + Thunderbolt for birds/water.

:Volcarona: What is the best overall #4 move for Volcarona: Giga Drain, Psychic, or Roost?

:Slowking: Can it run Ice Bean for dragons? If yes, which move should it replace? By the way, how one can effectively use Teleport?

:Scizor: Can Scizor run Defog? If yes, which move should it replace?

Thank you!

a. 3 atks gar is ofc runnable, esp sub > tbolt to help scout. on paper tbolt is decent coverage but in a certain mu vs say corviknight you're exerting a lot more pressure with sball than the latter.

b. depends on the set, offensive volc likes psychic as a 4th to hit targets such as pex. fat volc would appreciate roost for reliable recovery for endgames.

c. no. administering scald burns is goofier imo as it's punishable to phys dragons long term and has more PP

d. not in practice, but if you really want to use it youd want to replace sd if another slot compresses a wincon role.
