:ss/Azumarill:
Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Ice Punch

This week we have the badass bunny, Azumarill! After a long period of being overshadowed by other water-types like keldeo and primarina, azumarill has returned to prominence, being able to take advantage of tangrowth running assault vest instead of physical defense sets. A great Pokemon to use on rain as well as a revenge killer to threats like Nihilego, Lycanroc-D, and Nidoking, Azumarill is a Pokemon to watch out for in the coming weeks. How will you take this Pokemon on? Submissions are due July 13 at 11:59 PM PST.

:ss/weezing-galar:
Weezing-Galar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Neutralizing Gas
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Bomb
- Defog
- Pain Split
- Will-O-Wisp

I remember using this when azu was new and threatening everything, and for good reason. Ngas removes Huge Power from Azumarill making it significantly weaker, even if it still had a Choice Band, Weezing also brings a nice resistance to its fairy stab and a super effective Sludge Bomb to absolutely vaporise azu. It can burn a switchin, defog hazards and recover health with Pain Split. Making it a nice and handy counter.

CALCS
252+ Atk Choice Band Azumarill Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 81-96 (24.2 - 28.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 42-51 (12.5 - 15.2%) -- possibly the worst move ever
0 SpA Weezing-Galar Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 204-242 (59.8 - 70.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

FAT REPLAYS
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8uu-1376508824 - Weezing owns BD Azu, eating those +6 hits!

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8uu-1376512968-iulrsges5v25f5bata8napd94los01upw - Weezing prevents rain from going up which means it isnt 2HKO by scald, negates amoongusss from its recovery and lives a liquidation under rain which leads me to burn the feesh

@ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb
- Sleep Powder

Tangrowth is a hard check because it can switch in and constantly threaten giga drain's and knock off which damages it a ton and the other cripples its breaking power which azumarill really depends on. While rocky helmet racks up chip damage and forces azumarill to be more careful as it lacks knock off and cannot remove it on its own

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 184-218 (45.5 - 53.9%) -- 45.3% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tangrowth: 166-196 (41 - 48.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

:ss/volcanion:
Volcanion @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Sludge Wave
- Earth Power

Choice Specs because we're real men. Volcanion is a very good check to Azumarill, as it is not resists all of its moves, oustpeed, and can fire back with Sludge Wave.
252 SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 372-438 (109 - 128.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 114-135 (37.8 - 44.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

:ss/tentacruel:
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Sludge Bomb
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin

Tentacruel is a pretty solid check to Azumarill. Banded Play Rough and Liquidation still do a solid chunk to Tentacruel, but it can still take a few hits. Then, it can Knock Off Azumarill's Choice Band (which causes Azumarill to do even less damage to Tentacruel) or do a solid amount of damage itself with Sludge Bomb.

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 112 Def Tentacruel: 162-192 (44.5 - 52.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 112 Def Tentacruel: 153-181 (42 - 49.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 112 Def Tentacruel: 108-128 (29.6 - 35.1%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Black Sludge recovery
252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Liquidation vs. 252 HP / 112 Def Tentacruel: 102-121 (28 - 33.2%) -- 93.2% chance to 4HKO after Black Sludge recovery
0 SpA Tentacruel Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 194-230 (56.8 - 67.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Unfunny among us jokes aside amoonguss is a great check and counter to azumaril because it can eat both it stabs easily and if azu predicts and hits it with ice punch amoon can regen out and can risk coming back again
252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Amoonguss: 270-318 (62.5 - 73.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
with regen 33% recovery when switching out
amoon can also threaten azu with its powerful stab sludge or recover with giga drain
0 SpA Amoonguss Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 168-200 (49.2 - 58.6%) -- 98.4% chance to 2HKO
0 SpA Amoonguss Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 204-242 (59.8 - 70.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
and with rocky helmet chipping azumaril, it can be surprisingly be quickly worn down by amoon

:ss/toxicroak:

Toxicroak @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 248 Def / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- Bulk Up
- Knock Off
- Drain Punch
- Gunk Shot

defensive rain toxicroak is a super cool tech i've been running quite a lot recently, and it's a phenomenal check to azumarill. dry skin makes you immune to the water stabs, and also gives you reliable recovery alongside rain -- while play rough certainly hurts to switch in on, dry skin (optionally also paired with black sludge over rocky helmet for more recovery) allows you to recover up and potentially take another later on. On the offensive side, gunk shot easily OHKOs azumarill after rocky helmet chip.

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 248+ Def Toxicroak: 253-298 (68.3 - 80.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Toxicroak Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 326-386 (95.6 - 113.1%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8uu-1373711853-pzqykh1brami58g99777vhfmnf0drb2pw

here's a quick replay to prove its general viability in the tier (this is my first game of the day don't judge the shitty plays). toxicroak kills an offensive aegislash, walls amoonguss and keldeo, tanks a dual wingbeat from mence, and misses a crucial gunk shot. very viable!

:bw/venusaur:
Venusaur @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Weather Ball
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Growth

You can swap into either STAB but are OHKOd by Ice Punch but you can outspeed and OHKO Azumarill and if its locked into Play Rough from killing something else that can be growth set up opportunity

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 348-410 (115.6 - 136.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Venusaur: 156-184 (51.8 - 61.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Venusaur Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 351-413 (102.9 - 121.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Voting has finished! Congrats to KM for an overwhelming victory and avg for coming in second. Your submissions will be added to the Hall of Fame. Now, let’s introduce the victim for this week!
:ss/Necrozma:
Necrozma @ Power Herb
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Photon Geyser
- Heat Wave
- Meteor Beam
- Autotomize

For this week we have necrozma! Necrozma is a potent sweeper and wall breaker in the tier, using it’s great offenses and solid psychic+ fire coverage to sweep through teams. It’s solid natural bulk and ability in prism armor allows it to take many hits and setup easily at times, letting it 6-0 teams. A potent sweeper that should not be ignored, how will you answer this threat? Submissions are due July 20 at 11:59 PM PST. This is the last day of the cycle and will be a triple points week, meaning the winner can get up to 6 points! Make sure to submit to win!

:bw/haxorus:
Haxorus @ Choice Band
Adamant Nature
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Outrage
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab
- First Impression

I thought it wouldn't OHKO with first impression but i just calced wrong. check

252+ Atk Choice Band Mold Breaker Haxorus First Impression vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Necrozma: 351-414 (104.4 - 123.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Guzzlord @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Knock Off
- Dragon Tail
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

It is a counter, can tank any hit and return with dragon tail to force it out to remove any boosts and knock off which can seriously dent it

0 Atk Guzzlord Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma: 157-186 (46.8 - 55.5%) -- 71.1% chance to 2HKO
0 Atk Guzzlord Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma: 105-126 (31.3 - 37.6%) -- 82.7% chance to 3HKO
+1 252 SpA Necrozma Meteor Beam vs. 4 HP / 252+ SpD Guzzlord: 202-238 (34.3 - 40.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

:bw/reuniclus:

Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpAtk
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
- Recover
- Focus Blast

Reuniclus takes any two moves if you click Calm Mind as you get hit, and from there Necrozma can’t ever break through you as you keep on clicking Calm Mind until you’re able to beat it with Stored Power and you take nothing from any of its moves, resisting Photon Geyser and being at +6 for Heat Wave and Meteor Beam

Offensive Aegislash or smth
:ss/aegislash-blade:
Aegislash @ Spell Tag
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 120 HP / 252 SpA / 136 Spe
Mild Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Shadow Sneak
- Close Combat
- King's Shield

fat check, even if necrozma lives Shadow Ball (which it shouldn't be able to after rocks) you can use sneak to pick it off. you can also use sneak if it is at low health so you don't even need to take damage. obviously this one works best befores it sets up but even at +1 you win the 1v1 interaction.

CALCS
252 SpA Necrozma Heat Wave vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 154-182 (52.9 - 62.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+1 252 SpA Necrozma Heat Wave vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 228-270 (78.3 - 92.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Spell Tag Aegislash-Blade Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma: 301-355 (89.8 - 105.9%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
0 Atk Spell Tag Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma: 103-123 (30.7 - 36.7%) -- 63.4% chance to 3HKO

Zarude-Dada @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Choice Scarf
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power Whip
- Darkest Lariat
- Jungle Healing
- U-turn

Zarude is a check to Necrozma. It's admittedly a somewhat filmsy check because it can only win the 1v1 if Necrozma hasn't set up yet; at +1 SpA Heat Wave turns from a 2HKO to an OHKO, and at +2 Speed Necrozma can outspeed even Choice Scarf Zarude. But if Necrozma hasn't gained any stat boosts and Zarude is healthy enough, it can tank one Heat Wave, outspeed Necrozma, and take it out with Darkest Lariat.

252 SpA Necrozma Heat Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Zarude: 214-252 (60.9 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Zarude Darkest Lariat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma: 195-231 (58.2 - 68.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
