English Trailer (&
Main Site):
0:17: So, this right here could be evidence the maps aren't 1:1 afterall. Because it doesn't look like
Route 209,
Route 212,
Route 205,
Route 210, or any of the mountain routes with bridges. If I were to guess, I'd say this is probably part of a new layout of Route 209 near the bottom, and as you can see there's a long streak of water along the bottom not present in the original possibly meaning they added some new locations only accessible via Surfing.
0:20: ... But then again we also have locations like Floaroma Meadow where they painstakingly made sure the flowers were the exact same as they were in the original. And it's not like the flowers were positioned in a special way that they made a large image, as far as I can tell they were just randomly placed around. Like this is a prime location to do something special (like maybe let us choose what colors the flowers should be), would be disappointing if they left it as is...
0:25: Poketch:
And here's one of the features I've been waiting to see. So, without a bottom screen, what do they do? They just slap it on the top right corner, I guess that can work (I'm guessing there's probably a way to hide it if you don't want to see it). There's a way to make it bigger which darkens & blurs the overworld, so essentially it's its own screen. Also looks like we're still restricting the boys to blue and the girls to red, blue is my favorite color so alright with that though I'd imagine people with other favorite colors wouldn't mind having the option to change the casing's color. Also, ONE button, with enough space on the top to
have added a SECOND button (like they did in Platinum). I'm sorry
Volt-Ikazuchi, this here alone disqualifies BDSP to be considered a "masterpiece" as you keep on trying to push. I can take the Battle Frontier and Villa not being in, I can take the more cutesy art direction, I can even take there being no updated character designs... but my line is DRAWN with no second back button to the Poketch. You tried & believed, GameFreak failed you, if happens to all of us (I'm sure when Gen V remakes come out I'll do my best to stan for them with no doubt somewhere GF will mess up with them putting egg on my face).
... ANYWAY let's talk about apps. Trailer showed:
- Digital Watch
- Pedometer
- An updated Pokemon List which puts the Pokemon's 3D model through a monochrome feature instead of using their menu sprites which is odd.
- An "updated" Dowsing Machine (it being on the top right corner preserves its use thankfully, but it looks to have an extra band on the top and bottom with buttons, is that decoration or they added something new to it?)
BUT WAIT, the site also shows off:
- Memo Pad
- An updated Friendship Checker (like with the Pokemon List above, it too uses a filter 3D model image, the heart sprites also looked to have changed).
So with that said, looking through the the apps, I don't think there's any problem now that it'll be on the top right corner and can make it bigger which might be better for the Memo Pad, Dot Artist, and Roulete app. Hopefully they'll also include the inaccessible apps too, especially the Color Changer to change the color tint of the screen (heck, make it also the thing that changes the frame color). But there is one more thing concerning the Poketch that is of interest:
0:35: Hidden Moves:
Or also known as Bidoof/Bibarel Labor Summoner (and Staraptor as they have a union contract they must be the Fly Pokemon of Sinnoh)! GF,
I was JOKING (first thing in the Page 27 tab) about Bibarel being used for every HM use!
Anyway, jokes aside, I think it's now safe to assume that HMs are fully dead. Now even in the remakes they're doing away with them, specifically BDSP having a Hidden Move app that summons I'm guessing either a Pokemon catchable on the Route or otherwise a random one that can learn a particular HM to use it instead of one of your Pokemon.
Good night, HMs, of all the Moves I have used in my travels, they were the most... fundamental. *Fires Torpedo* *Pops Champaign*
0:52: Poffins: Guess I was wrong with the Poffins, they're keeping the mini-game as is instead of recycling Curry making.
1:03: Amity Square: AND with one thing they don't change they show one thing they do change,
MAKE UP YOUR MIND (I can use this song cause Katy Perry is doing a collab with Pokemon)!
So, yeah Amity Square is back but now you can do a sort of LGPE Go Park thing where you have all your Pokemon out and following you around. YET, I noticed they didn't change the gatekeeper's dialogue.
- Gatekeeper: In Amity Square, you may go for a stroll with a cute Pokemon.
- Player: OKAY! *Sends out all their Pokemon and runs off*
- Gatekeeper: *HEAVY SIGH* ... Or I guess you can send them all out, I get paid the same minimum wage eitherway...
Though one rules looks to be kept: Cute Pokemon. Looks like the guy with the Gyarados and Steelix STILL isn't getting his wish. For the most part the trailer and site don't show any Pokemon that weren't originally allowed... which seems kind of damning that, for yet another baffling reason, they kept the list of Pokemon allowed short. Like, fine, you don't want Gyarados and Steelix roaming around, at least allow all the small Basic Stage Pokemon.
Oh, and you can cook Poffins there too, hur-rah.
1:28: You really couldn't have put some more symbols on the sign to make it look like its was legible? Nah, just only the top line has words and a pattern of big and small squares underneath it like it was some kind of cryptogram puzzle.
2:04: Gym Puzzles: Well they reverted back to the Forest Maze for Gardenia's Gym. You know what, that's fine for that Gym, but what about Maylene's and ESPCIALLY Fantina's? Say what you want about how silly it is you have to push punching bags to knock over piles or tires and finding symbols in the dark with a flashlight, it's at least more appropriate then movable walls and math problems.
And that's it. I think I covered most of the new stuff, and if I haven't I'm sure someone will mention something I missed and I'll respond to it. So let's get to that...
