(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

They want the Mythical pokemon to be rare event things where you have a limited . The ones that you CAN obtain have basically been whims:
-Deoxys, ORAS only. Honestly I think the only reason this is here is because they, on a whim, thought that the episode where you break the meteor would be cool if it was Deoxys meteor.
-Magearna, Alola. Honestly I have no idea why they decided you could get one guaranteed by scanning a QR code. Whims!
-Meltan/Melmetal. This is the "Go" pokemon, so it leans hard into the Go mechanics by needing you to obtain a bunch of them to even evolve the stupid thing. For once, not a whim, it operates on pure mechanics while encouraging you to buy Let's Go (and later Home)
-Keldeo, SWSH (w/DLC) only. ngl even having the other swords here feels like a weird whim of fancy.
-Arceus. They wanted to do a fancy game in Sinnoh, Arceus was there as focus. If this had been a "Hoenn" title I suspect it'd have been Rayquaza rather than something like Jirachi. Basically, we got lucky.
-Phione....does this count? I guess it kind of counts. You can get them provided someone, somewhere, has either a Manaphy or Phione. You can blame that squarely on the whim of them wanting an easter egg pokemon.

So the things being hard to get if you miss the event (or, indeed, generation) is a feature not a bug. It's not a problem to them. They want these things in their stable of stuff they can tie to whatever event strikes their fancy. Tanabata give aways, movie give aways, Pokemon center give aways, weird things like the scrap campaigns, join the trainer club to get our newsletters and incorporate yourselves into our ecosystem, participate in this poll, etc etc

it definitely would be nice if every mythic, at least of a generation, got to have a full little in-game quest line to obtain them but that's definitely not happening. It's ingrained into their design to be events and they've moved away from even having notable in-game events for getting them and taking them somewhere for years now.

Also look at who they breed with. it's mostly Fighting-types. It would be one thing if they just learned a batch of Fighting-type Moves from various Types of Pokemon, but it's not, a lot of their Egg Moves are via the other parent being a Fighting-type.

I'll give you Fighting isn't there primary Type, though that's the point of the Secondary-type, it's the Type which has the smaller influence of their design (sort of like recessive genes).

That said, I don't see Magmortar being a Fighting-type (I agree with Samtendo09 about it could have been part Poison), though probably wouldn't mind getting Vacuum Wave.

What you don't think Electivire can frolic Play Rough? Though they could be good candidates for Spirit Break.

In my Repository thread I have a list of all the Type Combos that haven't been done yet. To list some of the oddities that stand out to me

  • Normal/Ghost: Come on GF, you're really resisting the urge to do this paradoxical Pokemon? Many have thought of Schrodinger's Cat Pokemon for this Typing, let's see GF either fall in line or try to come up with something else.
  • Bug/Dark: You'd think for anyone they'd make a Bug/Dark to be Guzma's main. But yeah, there's certainly a lot of bugs with nasty attitudes. Probably waiting for the Australia region.
  • Grass/Fire: If they do this Type combination than Grass has been paired with every Type.
Changed some mons to be those in my Em hack in progress. Stantler is Normal Ghost, Beautifly will be Bug Dark, and Sunflora is Grass Fire
Butterflies are evil, spread the word

-Arceus. They wanted to do a fancy game in Sinnoh, Arceus was there as focus. If this had been a "Hoenn" title I suspect it'd have been Rayquaza rather than something like Jirachi. Basically, we got lucky.

In before you can't get Arceus in Legends: Arceus base game, there will be a timed Event that allows you to capture it.

You called for me?

You know what's annoying? There's still no Electric/Fighting, Ground/Fighting or Bug/Dark. Despite the types being around since first generation in the first two cases and second generation in the latter one. At least we got Electric/Dark and Bug/Psychic in Gen 8, and I'll give a minor pass to Fairy/Fighting since it's only been a couple generations since Fairy was introduced.
There's a Smog article somewhere about unused type combinations, and one of the ideas was a fighting rotom form, possessing a punching bag. That could have been pretty interesting.

But I think that the type I would like the most is fire-fairy. Its a pretty interesting stab combination. Still got some common weaknesses, crucially rock ground and water. But it also has offensive stab against a lot of types Ice, grass, fighting, bug, steel, dark and dragon. Having a fairy type not walled by steel types or a fire type not walled by dragons could be useful in most tiers. I wish there had been a will-o-the-wisp based fire-fairy in Galar.

Although I'd also love a fire-electric type. Maybe as like a regional variant of chandelure or arcanine or something. I think that electric is underrated as a defensive typing, since most of its best mons are frail and fast. A bulky Fire-electric could be hard to put down if it gets magnet rise.

That's another thing that annoys me: why are there so few gimmick mons that get updates? Eevee, sure. But the last Hitmon was added in Gen II, and basically every other mon with a partner, branched evolution, form change, or similar is left with JUST the forms they had by default no matter how many gens pass. In some cases, it makes sense(how could they add new Deoxys?), but something like Castform, Rotom, Lycanroc, Clamperl...there's ways they could be updated that would be interesting and might fill some holes. Instead, nothing.

I mean there's plenty of Pokemon in general, gimmick or no, that don't get updated. I don't think there's anything to, like, Clamperl in need of extras just because they have a gimmick.

Aside from Rotom, the Pokemon they've decided they really love using for its possession purpose in gens 7 & 8. Like after giving it another 4 out of battle forms may as well give it a new in-battle form, surely?

Yet I still love Vivillon despite the fact I never want any butterfly or moth near me.

Things that annoy me I realize more than anything.....hindering and useless abilities. Enough pokemon are stuck with situational abilities so why do you feel the urge to make worse ones?

so apparently mr. rimes belly mouth thing can expel icy winds

you’re welcome for this information~!
Makes sense, The eyes alreadya re able to react and blink, I'm not surprised it has a functioning mouth. Or at the very least, is able to breathe through the nose.

Or (cough) use "psychic power" to generate the winds from the """"patterns"""" on its belly, as the pokedex tries to pass off

You know I'd actually like Mr Rime a little more if he didn't have the weird stomach thing

I can excuse them if it's lore wise. Sure it's a shame Slaking and Regigigas will never see the light of PU but I mean, atleast it makes sense why they have those abilities, even if it is a bit much (I think Slow Start should last only 3 turns max, and Truant could heal your health a bit since he's "slacking off" which is a healing move)

Why they gave Archeops Defeatist I have no idea, but it's a sin they did. At the very least it's the "best" of the terrible abilities

One day we'll find out why the hell they thought Stall would be a good ability for Sableye to get, a full generation after it premiered, as a signature ability
I guess because of metal burst? Prankster is already a fantastic ability anyway, it doesn't really need another one in base.

The only other possibility is Payback. Also, Sableye has base 50 speed. If you're gonna give a normally debilitating ability to a Pokemon to show off a kind of neat ability-move synergy, you should at least give it to a Pokemon who won't normally be making full use of that move anyway.

One day....
The weird thing is, Stall would not only probably be a better ability for Slaking than Truant (IDK for sure just spitballing TBF), but would still make sense lore-wise.

Huh, I could've sworn it had negative priority like other moves similar to it, like Counter and Mirror Coat. Odd but I guess now it makes sense to use it on Stall Sableye...if you really wanted a reason to use that

It bugs me how little weather types there are in the series
Gen 4s fog was....removed forever (until remakes maybe?), and Mystery Dungeon 1/2 had Fog, Cloudy, and Snow that was removed after WiiWare
Even more aggravatingly, Castform doesn't have a Sandstorm form, so it takes damage
Terrains are approaching being equivalent to weathers, though it obviously doesn't help Castform any. I say "approaching" because there isn't enough Ability support for terrains as archetypes of their own yet.

Also, let's not forget the best weather: Shadow Sky. Good old ????-type Weather Ball.

I wouldn't want there to be too many weather conditions, especially since only one can be active. That said I wouldn't mind if they added a few more as long as they're reasonable:

  • Fog I think would be fine coming back but I think they should rethink the Evasion decrease (maybe only have it affect moves with imperfect Accuracy while moves that cannot miss or at 100% are perfectly fine). Weather Ball is Ghost-type.
  • I feel they could make a downgraded version of Strong Winds. Make it so Flying-type receive 1.5x damage from weaknesses & make if vulnerable to being changed by summoning other weather. Heck, since in the current game Strong Winds can't be activated anymore they could do more to make it more interesting, like increase the damage of Flying-type Moves and make them immune to Stealth Rocks. Weather Ball is Flying-type.
  • Finally, a new suggestion, how about giving Poison-types some support via Acid Rain? Raises Poison-type Special Defense, Increase Poison-type Moves damage, & Poisons all non-Poison-types (if they have a different status ailment it'll change to Poison) and have Poison & Badly Poison do double the damage (maybe throw in a certain percent chance to upgrade any Poison status to Badly Poison). Weather Ball is Poison-type.

And, along with Sandstorm, have Castform get a form to go with each (Fog is Foggy, Strongs Winds is Windy, and Acid Rai is Rusty) (while we're at it, I'd also give a boost to Castform's Ability & Weather Ball, but think I've already overstepped the line into wishlisting (though I think if you search my name and "Castform", "Forecast", and/or "Weather Ball" I think I posted my ideas on these forums before).

Also, let's not forget the best weather: Shadow Sky. Good old ????-type Weather Ball.

If they ever do another Colosseum game they should totally have a Shadow Castform with a unique Shadow Sky form: Moody.

It is fascinating that Weather Ball didn't change in Fog but Nature Power is so granular that in gen 6 they made one for "Space". Which I'll remind you exists for one (1) battle, against Deoxys in the Delta Episode (if you KO it and fight it at spear pillar, that's a separate environment); it turns into Draco Meteor.

Even as far back as gen 4 it actually differentiates between "snow" (Blizzard) and "ice" (Ice beam)

I'm not a fan of how Fog is implemented in gen 4 to be honest. I hate anything that lowers accuracy, and teaching something Defog in Platinum was annoying. If it comes back, I hope they find some other way to make it distinct.
