Pokemon Legends - Arceus - 28th Jan 2022 *Official Content Only*

All in all it depends on the stats... if it mimicks Zoroark's regular stats, its defensive profile wont matter (though having 3 immunities will indeed give it plenty of switch ins), normal/ghost are solid stabs to have but it would require actually having the atk/spatk and BP to use them
If it keeps it's offenses of 105/120/105 and both Swords Dance and Nasty Plot, hitting hard isn't gonna be its problem. Granted, it still has the defenses of a dishrag and 105 ain't as fast as it used to be. Three immunities with two of them being to some of the best attacking types in the game is not something to count out though. Switch it in on a choiced Shadow Ball, Close Combat, or Poltergeist, boost up, and you've got a terrifying sweeper on your hands.

Was kind of lukewarm on the "obvious" candidate of Zorua/Zoroark being confirmed but Normal/Ghost shot the hype all the way back up
Don't worry, as soon as someone will mention a Exp Share feature in the game, everyone will be shitting on Arceus as well :psysly:

Something I didn't quite think of is that in VGC, this could potentially create some pretty obnoxious mindgames with the omnipresence of Fake Out...

Sadly I don't think we'll get to see L:Arceus pokemon in competitive environment until next gen (or at best, the very end of this one if they get added to SwSh as I expect), so might just end up being another power creep victim :(

The type is cool but that design is So ugly my god. Zorua is fine but zoroark looks like shit. I feel like they tried to do a wild hair thing compared to the ogs more neat hair style but just big chunky strands dont do it. The worst hisuian form for now

Zoroark looks kinda cool but I agree with weird hair strands it has kinda ruin it a bit. I might get used to it but they could've done a lot better with the design I feel

Jokes aside i expect this to be the case. They will never remove it now.

but I also don't feel like it will really matter for this game at all. Battles function so differently that being over leveled probably won't matter nearly as much, honestly. Like you can jsut get into multi battles on the overworld, trainer battles seem to be significantly lesser, there's two types of boss battles (berserk pokemon, noble pokemon) that have significantly different going on, there's the whole style system. It's not really comparable, in theory.

I'll be real I just see Zoroark-H as jsut being a neat Pokemon, usable, but won't make a splash in any format even if it gets good tools.
It's not even a power creep thing, just....how these things go, sometimes.

Does anyone know where Serebii got the Ghost/Normal typing from?
No, though I assume one of these things:
-there was a press packet and they accidentally revealed the typing early (oops)
-serebii has inside sources and posted the typing early (oops) (I think this is an actual thing with him sometimes, so...)
-serebii made an assumption (oops)

Zoroark is one of my top 10 (top 5 really) favorite Pokemon and I've been wanting a Normal/Ghost type or Ghost/Normal type Pokemon for fucking years.

I was always afraid the first Normal/Ghost or Ghost/Normal Pokemon would be some lame Legendary or Mythical Pokemon (I try not to use those types of Pokemon on principle) this is the best timeline.

Looking at the Japanese site, it turns out there was actually more flavor to this than I thought.

This is an incharacter feed from the researcher at canalave. It turns out Professor Oak helped restore the video

Well, I'm amazed to receive your report!
This is a Zoroa in the form of jade, believed to have inhabited the jade region long ago.

This was precious footage of Zoroa and Zoroark in their jade form, believed to have inhabited the jade region long ago!
Even more surprisingly, these two Pokémon seem to be Normal and Ghost types.
But they're not just scary Pokémon.
This is the moment when Zoroark, worried that Zoroa might be in danger, tried to protect it!
You've made a wonderful discovery!

(deepL is a better google translate, broadly speaking, but it still has occasional hiccups on things like proper nouns so the "Jade" in this case is "Hisui")

Still kinda wish it was a Hisuian Rockruff or Hisuian Litleo because I prefer both of those lines to the Zorua line but Normal/Ghost is such a fucking poggers type combo that I don't really care that much.

Also these two plus Hisuian Braviary and Basculegion means that over half of the new forms/evolutions are of Gen 5 Pokemon. Once again I do wish Gens 6 or 7 mons get some Hisuian forms (especially Gen 6... Alola fans at least have Rowlet as a starter, Kalos hasn't gotten anything!), but it's still great that they're acknowleding anything post-Gen 4 to begin with. Unova stans be fucking feasting rn lmao

I wonder if Hisui literally means Jade...if thats the case sinnoh being the Jade region has a lot of implications, with references to The Jade Emperor, aka the first God in chinese mythology.
Hisui can mean either "Jade" or "Arcane" as bulbapedia helpfully points out
Hisui may be derived from 翡翠 hisui (jade) or 祕邃 hisui (arcane), the latter of which is synonymous to Sinnoh's name origin.
and if you were curious about that last bit
Junichi Masuda has stated that Sinnoh's name denotes "mysteries" (神奥),[3] possibly in reference to the various myths of the region.

Hisui can be the japanese word for jade (not super common since gems take their english names more often, but still has usage) or arcane (archaic, can't even get this word on the jpn keyboard so you have to get the kanji individually lol), but I don't think it's using the jade meaning here

My biggest question is what if we're right. What if it is a regional variant of the classic Zorua? Will that mean we're given a regional Zoroark to boot, or will we get something unexpected in the vein of Perrserker? I have no expectation of seeing this answered soon, but it underscores how little we know of where this is taking us. TPC gave us a good, solid mystery to work with. Even if we're right about the one new species described in the footage, we can easily get blindsided by what happens next.

Wheeze. I got blindsided alright. This got dumped on us fast.

I dig H-Zark's new facial markings, but the jury's still out on the virtual bloodstain in the middle of its ruff.

Hisui can in fact mean jade among many other things

I thought this was already common knowledge at this point
