Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl - Release 19th Nov 2021

Had the female playable character ever had a risque outfit?

Not in the "this girl is only wearing skinny clothes/swim clothes" deal, but the pc girls do have a trend of having shorts/skirts that never reach their knees. Dawn is just one of the more blatant ones because her skirt is the size of my thumb even in her winter design

True, but also note that in this art style it would be hard to show off any skimpier clothes. Sure they have the battle models but most of the time we're looking at the chibi overworld model.

I mean...
Some of them get leggings, which is good, but plenty of the outfits are a top, a skirt that covers just enough to stay legal, and shoes. Customization outfits don't matter, since you only see the ones you want unless you play multiplayer, and why would you ever willingly interact with other people?

  • Kris & May: The first playable gals I feel are alright. Sure, May has this strange combination of tight pants & mini-skirt, but I wouldn't really say its skimpy. I do sort of get the feeling of "sporty" from them.
  • Dawn: Yeah, as everyone said, Dawn's short skirt is kind of uncomfortable if you focus on it as you're easily one small bend away from getting a panty shot. I remember a rather infamous picture years ago where Ash & Dawn were holding onto a Mantine and you just get to see Dawn's underwear; curious is the dub cut that scene out. I also remember there was this educational game made for younger kids on the PC and they drew over Dawn's legs to make it look like she was wearing black leggings, which I don't know why it's not like the anime did that and I'm assuming the kids playing the game would also see the anime. And it is particularly baffling how Platinum's Sinnoh is said to be much colder... and they don't even give her shorts, like what?
  • Lyra: Lyra is certainly a special design. I don't think I've ever seen zettai ryouiki done with overalls before. She looks like she's a farm girl who was getting ready to go on her Pokemon adventure, saw what all the other girls was wearing, and decided to replicate it the best she could with the farm clothes she had. And she's certainly no fashion designer. Still, I wouldn't say its as bad as Dawns as the overalls do provide modesty for the private area.
  • Hilda: A sort of "eh" situation. Yeah, her pants are as short as Dawn's skirt, but they're still pants so not like we'll see accidental panty shots at least. Though Aduro is right that her pockets are longer than her pants, I'm never gonna unsee that now; for that I'll give it a questionable design choice because I don't know anyone who would wear their pants THAT short.
  • Rosa: And going the complete opposite direction, sorta, Rosa has no legs exposed and instead wears black legging pants. The only questionable thing here is who thought that yellow tutu was a good idea.
  • Serena: Now if you want a classic example of zettai ryouiki than here's your girl. And on top of that her skirt is also as short as Dawn's. Them French girls... though usually when they say that they're talking about young woman.
  • Selene: Back to short shorts, which makes sense for someplace as tropical as Alola.
  • Elaine: "Who?". You know, the girl character from Let's Go. She's wearing short shorts so *shrug*.
  • Gloria: She would be more covered up if she was wearing a kilt, but she had the short skirt and a hop into a Flying Taxi ride away from a panty shot.

I will agree that the girls should be given longer pants and especially skirts (or wearing shorts underneath), but only a few I see as problematic if we talk practicality.

Male player character design: if i so much as see an ankle i swear--

And knees, either the pants ends just below them (Ethan, ORAS Brendan, SM Elio, Chase) or they're wearing these non-underwear underpants that covers them (Emerald Brendan, Nate, USUM Elio). Feels more like:

Girls: I'M EXPRESSING I HAVE NO SHAME WITH MY BODY IMAGE!

Boys: That's cool. Say, have you seen this neat non-underwear underpants? They're comfy and easy to wear... they also keep my thighs warm...

That's why Lana is the best character design: she has big pants

Ah yes, sweet innocent Lana.

She just wants to make sure the swimmer is alright... she's ready to give them mouth-to-mouth... even if they don't need it...

It's kind of aggravating how GFs design philosophy for players has been
For Girls besides the "modesty" (quotes for a reason), a lot of them have the same happy vapid look
Boys on the other hand they're typically neutral boring, cept Gen 7, 8, and let's go where it's similar to the girls in being vapidly happy.
Even across remakes there's been some very heavy changes. Red in OG looked spunky and ready to kick butt. FRLG he's just shy and older?, and Let's Go besides looking younger he looks mad
Ethan early 1997 art looked like he could kill a bear. Final 1998/99 art he's not as attitude filled, though still raring for adventure, and HGSS he looks like a socially awkward highschooler. Etc etc etc

And then humans in general after FRLG/EM have gotten really skinny, unless they're a fat joke or body builder, which makes one question the malnutrition rates in pokemon

Oh and noses. The post Gen 3 nose suuuuuuucks for definition

I swear, GFs trying to make more and more featureless and happy dolls instead of interesting players

This is actually why I often pick the girl in later games despite me being... *checks* male. The male player characters in the main just radiate dullness whereas the female player characters tend to have a bit more life about them. Take away the hair and the different outfits and they all look like the same bland doll. I don't know why GF seems so reluctant to give the male characters a bit of an edge but I suppose it's in the interest of making them as universal as possible.

The english tweet also has mew for LG & Jirachi for SWSH
I think that datamines have also confirmed that

likely an oopsie on the person putting together the youtube trailer

ALso boy, you can realyl tell Covid probably had a big part in this game's development huh? We got the day 0 (or day -8, i suppose) update and we still need a follow up update for additional communication features.

So while the LA Shaymin is post-game only, it seems like the Jirachi & Mew can be obtained at any time./ There's no such note about needing to beat the game

Honestly I might actually use Jirachi despite being a 600 BST legendary just because I will never get the opportunity to do something like this with that Pokemon of all things.

So just to sum things up as they stand

Mew - BDSP Gift (LGPE save data)
Celebi - VC Crystal encounter
Jirachi - BDSP Gift (SwSh save data)
Deoxys - ORAS encounter
Shaymin - LA Sidequest (SwSh save data)
Arceus - ~presumably~ LA encounter
Keldeo - SwSh DLC encounter
Magearna - SM/USUM gift (QR code)

That is a LOT of mythicals that are now just available like any other legendary. Obviously not as ubiquitous and most require more than one base game (it's DLC or it's save data), but I still think it's pretty notable that all but two (maybe three) pre-gen 5 mythicals are now this easily obtainable. Before even getting into stuff like GO's infinite supply of Darkrai. It's pretty neat! Fingers crossed for Meloetta and Genesect and Diancie some day

I like that they're doing this, that they're gradually stripping old Mythicals of their event exclusivity, because let's face it, we got a lot of them nowadays.

Now if only they could stop Shiny-locking them!

I'm definitely going to use Mew. It's my favorite mythical and Psychic type and being able to learn every TM sounds like it'll be fun, although one use tms is gonna be a pain

Hey, in my playthrough of Diamond I used the Manaphy I got from the first Pokemon Ranger. If you enjoy having the "nuke it" option than it's fun having a Mythical on your team, especially if it fills a gap in your team composition.

You can get mew from old "my pokémon ranch", celebi from old japanese colosseum bonus disc and jirachi from american colosseum bonus disc or european pokémon channel. We can't forget about Phione, from pokémon ranch or breeding.

I believe it will be an unpopular opinion, but you can get a lot of mythical from pokémon go. Mew, celebi, jirachi, victini and meloetta if you starting playing now, deoxys, genesect and darkrai infinites from raid, hoopa event will end at the end of november, but if you start playing now you can end the event anytime.

On go, we had shiny mew, shiny celebi and Zarude, but we don't know if it will ever be back.

Those did of course exist, but they're limited methods and use games/software which are nigh impossible to get -- not to mention how old and not readily available many of these games are, and how expensive some of them will run you on the aftermarket. Better than usual events of course, but what I was listing were games where:-

A) You can just easily buy them and get the legendary in them; even if it requires save data or DLC
B) It's easily repeatable through resetting the game

Or to put it another way -- basically as easily available as most other Legendaries. GO is very notable for having a swarm of Darkrai at halloween and one each of a bunch of other mythicals, but to me that doesn't match the ready availability of what's in this game. Though of course, the fact that Darkrai is made available so often in GO raids is pretty nice given we now have methods for its fellows Shaymin and Arceus.

Question: What does the "November 11th" release date of the day 1 patch even mean? Why isn't it just November 19th? Surely Nintendo isn't distributing the patch early to holders of leaked copies. (Basically, does the release date actually mean anything or could they have said November 19th instead and nothing would change?)

The only guess I have is that the digital preload is confirmed to include the patch, but that would be November 12th (today), not 11th. It doesn't seem to be time zone-related shenanigans either.

I have a feeling the datamine thread might have an answer but I don't want to go there and be spoiled.

While I can't answer why it'd be the 11th instead of the 12th, just in general putting it out before launch day is they want the patch out early so that preloads can just update it before day 1 where there will probably be an influx of people who DIDNT pre-load it and buying it digitally and-also a bunch of people buying ti physically without the update applied.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened, it's basically just a way to ease up on load a little.

Also possible a matter of the right hand not talking to the left on the exact day the patch & preloads were supposed to go out.

Do preloads activate staggered by time zone, or do they become available at the same time for everyone?
I'm not sure about preloads, but patches tend to go live based on time zone of what I presume is based on Japan (ie: The patch actually went live 8 PM EST November 10th)

Incidentally the big 2.0 New Horizons update launched a full day early everywhere, for some reason, but no one was able to access the new DLC until that went live on the eshop the following day. And age of calamity preloaded its DLC like 3 days early.

Bit of a weird time in the Nintendo Patching Community, I suppose.
