Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl - Release 19th Nov 2021

Reminds me of Shell Smash Kommo-o.

Haha yeah....yeah.

It definitely feels like the team editors and the level up editors didn't communicate as fully as they did. Likely the former referenced the lists that were just imported, which would be the gen 7 sets that had Feint Attack & Snatch, but not the updated list that updated them for Payback & Knock Off

For proper shell smash kommo-o you want Calm Mind Milotic in the battle tower

Well guss post this here for psoterity. They put up another tariler for the game to go with the LA stuff. Guess they dont want you to forget abotu it in the meantime but its very funny to have one focused on the post game but also still showing off gym leaders 3-6.

You know we still need that other update to actually finish the communication features. We uh...gonna get that any time soon...?

They're probably still trying to deal with the glitches, especially since it seems a new variation of "open menu while walking" has been discovered.

Said glitches are no doubt not as important as major functionality, and probably handled in parallel

glitches are necessary for speedruns lol
The existance of glitchless categories says otherwise.

Also for what's worth it, glitched BDSP was going to die pretty quickly anyway considering it became basically walking-sim skipping every single encounter of the game bar the tutorial.
And now thanks to the patch it's legitimately impossible to replicate the "good runs" without a hacked switch (as some glitches were introduced in the first patch then patched out with the second, and Switch doesn't offer a way to downpatch, so you can only obtain 1.0 (with a phisical copy) or the latest patch.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl has received a new patch. This patch is Version 1.1.3 and provides a variety of bug fixes including the notification of Repels ending and more. We're currently collating what has been added so be sure to keep checking back
Lol they prioritized pushing not just 1 but 2 bugfix patches to get rid of all the fun glitches, yet they still haven't released all of the features promised before launch (Wonder Trades, local and online Union Room supporting more than 2 people at a time).

I would point that fixing software-breaking glitches (no matter if you consider them "fun" or not) should take priority over releasing missing non-gameplay-impacting features.

There's also a whole discussion one could have about the actual scope of this game, which may have been just "make it a playable and enjoyable remake" which would put the multiplayer aspect at the bottom of the priorities.

So no, as software developer, I think priorizing fixing performance impacting glitches (yes, being able to arbitrarly walk through corners and literally duplicate menus do count) is way more important than adding bottom-priority features missing.

Also, again, guessing this is parallel development and that the communication features are still at work which probably says more about that upcoming patch than it does the 2 bug fixes.

feint attack can finally rest in peace properly

So my Poketch completely disappeared shortly after I defeated the 3rd gym. No matter how many times or how long I press R it just doesn't show up...
Wondering if anyone here has the same issue?

I found another case of this happening on GameFAQs and a few reports on Reddit. I'm going to assume you already turned your game off and on again, so another suggestion was to check if there's an update and update it.

Tragic news: BDSP was a monumental success, 3rd best selling game in December and 4th of all of 2021 :psysly:
to be fair, it's talking of "nintendo consoles", and the Switch didn't exactly have any important release in the last couple months.

If anything I think being 3rd best seller when there's literally nothing else isn't exactly an accomplishment :psysly:
Both SwSh and Let's Go were best selling on their release month iirc.

It still made more than enough money for Game Freak to feel confident outsourcing, rushing or generally half-assing Unova re-makes tho.

"outsourcing" when Masuda was still leading the direction is a bold statement.

Though honestly, that's fine, because they need to outsource more.
BDSP had its bad parts BUT also had several good new features, so while the design has its flaws, it also has good things that the series could use going forward.

Outsourced games also means that GF gets more time to actually work on their main titles and hopefully have to rush them less.

If what it takes to get better and more polished mainline games is outsourcing more half hassed remakes, I take this trade.

The twitter post worded it weirdly, but it was the best selling switch title of 2021 in general, despite not coming out until mid-november, and 2021 was the best year for physical Pokemon game sales(the only completely new physical releases last year were New Pokemon Snap and BDSP, so there were probably more sales of SwSh and others) since 2000(Yellow was still new-ish, Gold and Silver came out, the first stadium, both puzzle league games, the TCG game, and Hey you pikachu were all released that year as well). Nintendo never releases digital sales numbers for some reason, but it wouldn't be surprising if it surpassed 2000 if you included those.

WHAT? You're telling me a mainline Pokemon game sold really well?
Actually, I'm not shocked at all.

Actually I knew it was going to sell a lot. Because it's Pokemon and the casual crowd just want to play a fun game and don't care if its a 1:1 remake. Heck, to many players, BDSP IS a new game as they probably never played the original DPPt.

BTW, no, I'm not going to stop complaining. Just because something makes a lot of money doesn't shield it from critique.

And I'm not angry people enjoyed it, as I said for many players this is their first time playing Gen IV and probably the only (affordable) way to do so (that said I say if you bought a copy of BDSP you have full right to emulate Platinum). At most I feel sad that they're missing out on the inclusions of Platinum plus whatever else "new" thing that would have been done had it been like the previous remakes (notably the graphics).

It still made more than enough money for Game Freak to feel confident outsourcing, rushing or generally half-assing Unova re-makes tho.

Outsourcing wasn't the problem. Aside from the various bugs they had to patch out (many being funny and rarely game breaking), ILCA I would say did a very good job, heck their teambuilding is amazing and shows there's at least some Pokemon fans on the team who aren't afraid to experiment with what little wiggle room they're given.

And imagine, if this is what a small company is able to do, imagine if GF outsourced the game to a "bigger" company such as Monolith Soft (Xenoblade level graphics for a Pokemon game, yes please!).

Also note the main reason they outsourced was because they were much more interested in making Legends: Arceus then they were BDSP. It was a unique situation so we can't say for now on they'll outsource all remakes.

"outsourcing" when Masuda was still leading the direction is a bold statement.

This was the problem, or rather one part of it. It's likely GF upper management as a whole told ILCA to follow Diamond & Pearl's blueprints exactly with only changes where it was applicable.
