Super Smash Bros. Brawl Discussion #2 (spoilers)

This being the first Smash game I'm actually buying myself, I'd like for SSE to be a nice adventure game that I can replay from time to time, on higher difficulties, not necessarily with the motivation of unlocking things. I know it's supposed to be long, and the story seems pretty epic, but if the gameplay isn't fleshed out enough ("short" probably wasn't a good word in retrospect), it'll be some short side-scrolling levels with cutscenes tacked on, maybe the occasional boss fight.

Firestorm, I guess to each his own; I never liked clones ... at least those that don't make much sense. I'm no Zelda fan, but even I can see it would look better for say ... Black Shadow to be a Captain Falcon clone than Ganondorf. Clones can be okay if they are more "Luigified" as they say, again as long as it makes sense.

I too hope multiplayer is great; I'm a little concerned because Sakurai is placing so much more emphasis on the "extras" this time around, and the roster isn't as great as some initially hoped. I hope "With Friends" is a good mode too, so I can play "with friends" and people from forums like Smogon. I don't get much time to actually play IRL with buddies (mind, as I said, I've never owned a Smash game), so Wifi can help me in that respect.

My Extended Theory on SSE:

I predict there is a fixed amount of stages for each character.

Now, from the footage I've seen you can choose which character you want to be for 1P.

My assumption is that you would then continue as that character and get their scenes for SSE, but since some footage shows that each of the characters switch out for the other after one is defeated. You may just default to your original character until you have the other character unlocked.

They may each have a different final boss, even.

Aside from Toon Link (wtf @ name) and ROB being in, and Mewtwo being out -- the roster's great. I would've loved Birdo, Krystal (we really do need more feminine characters) but oh well.. can't have em all.

Lucario looks amazing, I'm loving the spoilers. Avoiding the SSE ones though :]

Sakurai would never place Extras > Multiplayer/Balance since that is the essence of the game. My guess is that Multiplayer was worked on a lot more than extras, it just isnt as "advertised"

The roster is great. People just say "the roster sucks" because their fav. character didnt get in. I mean we dont even know how these characters will play like, how can you say they suck?

Edit: Although personally I would have even taken Barbie over ROB... ROB just looks stupid to me.

IMO the roster would've been much more well recieved if the majority of "true" newcomers weren't starters revealed before release. As it stands though, I don't regret not believing the "prophets", as they never provided any proof to their claims.

Just want to add that while my favourite character (Ridley for those who didn't guess) didn't make the cut, I'm not overly sore at the roster, as there are some characters that I wouldn't mind playing as. ROB is also cool in my books, to me Toon Link is the abomination of the bunch.

I'm happy with the roster. Now all I want is the confirmation of Zero Suit being playable from the character screen. I know that it would be stupid not to have her there but yea, all I want now is that.

I'll cry if she's not. LAWL Anyone else in the same boat as me?

I know... they make her a unique character but they will only make her available to use after a FS? Sounds pretty shitty to me.

I have a feeling ZSS will get her own slot. I mean, 35 just looks REALLY weird. I have a feeling there will be a 36th, and that'll just be ZSS's form (then we can have two characters from the Metroid series as well).

I do wish Ness and Falco got cooler FS's though. Hopefully Ness's moveset does have the rumored musical moves?

Arseus: your list of males includes shit like Donkey Kong and Yoshi, which aren't even human (or anthropomorphic).

I don't know if they would go to the extent of adding another slot for a character like ZSS. I think it would be more likely that you just hold "A" or something before the battle starts, similar to Zelda starting as Sheik.

there are 35 characters, 8 rows of 4, an 1 row of 3, with a *???* spot for the computers and for truly random play from what i've seen of the VS mode.

*Unlike in Melee where random showed you the character you randomly picked before you go to the stage you choose, in Brawl the random stays as a blank profile until your stage is loaded up.*

That being said, 35 characters (with ZSS and Sheik included in their "main" form) makes sense, why make a whole 'nother row if you can't even find 6 more characters? (without overdone and boring clones)

Krystal, Isaac, Michaiah, Claus, K.Rool, and (Megaman, Bomberman, Knuckles, Simon Belmont) would all like to have a word with you.

Lyn, Ridley, Samurai Goroh, and Waluigi would like as well, but for some reason, they're nowhere to be seen.

k. rool is the biggest disappointment for me

seriously

dk is supposed to be one of the classic franchises and yet the big boss from the series doesn't even appear (and increases the evil/big guy count)

actually i don't think he's even appeared in se

which is retarded, i could totally see him (since he's an idiot) chasing after bowser since he stole dk's bananas and feels like he's been upstaged or...something

meh

You will not see K Rool. Ever. Nintendo wants to forget what Rare did with the series.

What? Donkey Kong Country were some of the best games ever made, particularly number 2. It'd be a tragedy for Nintendo to pretend those games don't exist.

[Edit] I'm glad to see 'toon' Link is just like he was in Melee; I'm just hoping he's got a different final smash than Link. Ganondorf didn't do too much but jump around in that video, so are all of his moves identical from Melee?

Young Link:
- down air automatically shoots you down, seems to have FAR less knockback
- up+b seems to have more knockback at the end of the attack
- either his b-air is now a sword attack (instead of his kick) or his f-air has amazing knockback even if the opponent is behind him
- arrows don't seem to have as much stun time as last time
- either bombs can't be aimed or this guy can't aim
- boomerang wasn't used as much as it should've been so I have no idea how that is

He does have that one aerial (either b-air or f-air) that looks like it could be a good, fast, KO move.

I don't really mind young link being a clone but ganondorf is disappointing. they had all this development time and they couldn't come up with a unique moveset for nintendo's most popular villain??
