I think the name list is fake too (Quaxistador? Continuum Anomalies? They know 6-year-olds play this game and have to say these words, right?), but to be objective, it’s not like they haven’t chopped up or tinkered with spellings before. Why isn’t Drilbur spelled Drillbur? Why is it Vespiquen and not Vespiqueen? Why do we have Clamperl instead of Clampearl? Somehow lily + elegant becomes Lilligant? For a long time, I was particularly baffled by the etymology of Mienfoo until I looked at Bulbapedia, which suggests ermine + kung fu, which would mean that “mine” got shuffled into “mien” (with the pronunciation also being altered), and “fu” transformed into “foo.” :smogduck:

see my assumption on mienfoo/shao was "mien is asian and they are vaguely based on asian art styles of kung fu and shaolin"

EDIT: I don't really put much faith in the dump part since poryleeks were doing it themselves privately last time and it released on 4chan. As far as we know poryleeks could just be pulling another source like "the Sneedler" back in March that they also claimed to be legitimate.

The main point of interest of Cyclizar for me is that the box legends might share its signature move. That seems like it would have insane applications in Ubers, and potentially make Dragapult extremely powerful in that meta by virtue of its ability to ignore substitutes. (Mono-dragon might unironically not be a bad strategy in that format if the leaked dex is correct, given that every Ubers-tier dragon has a secondary STAB that can hit Magearna neutrally.)

Jokes aside, the fact that Armarouge only has three moves against a Level 27 Eggman and that one of those moves is Night Shade could be a telltale sign...

Just to give my two cents: there is absolutely no possible way that any Pokémon this generation, let alone the evolution of a starter, will reference matadors or conquistadors.

Pokémon have departments made specifically to avoid causing offense abroad. Everything goes through committee after committee to ensure no controversy.

Naming a Pokémon after an act of animal abuse, so controversial abroad and very controversial at home is silly. Especially since Pokémon wants to distance itself from accusations of dog fighting. Perhaps Tauros will represent the concept of a “fighting bull” but it will be used for races or some such.

Conquistador references are just ludicrous, sorry. Perhaps a euphemism like “explorer” but conquistadors are something which would obviously cause controversy if referenced. They aren’t dumb. They know what people will get mad it, and honestly, they shouldn’t name things after these things at all anyway.

Cultural importance doesn’t really matter if the thing being referenced is so abjectly horrible.
