SPOILERS! Scarlet & Violet Leaks Thread - Data/Mechanics

Also feel like Quaxly wouldn't be a matador probably because it'd make more sense for there to be a different, standalone matador pokemon that would directly interact with the (3 fighting type...) tauros. And probably just Literally Be Bugs Bunny

That said Quaxly's screenshot feels more like a dancer or performer (a leotard with the pretty shoulder pads and tail being a fancy accessory to accentuate the twirls it will no doubt do; the specific coloring even made me think of figure skaters) to me anyway so we're probably not going down that route regardless and khu/kaka's dancer description was probably not some roundabout misinterpretation.

One way or the other, the person that posted the names claimed we will get a trailer on Tuesday. So even if right now its ambiguous (although in my opinion, probably fake), we will have confirmation on Tuesday

I still think it was a good leak (minus Quaxly's evolution and forgetting Cyclizar), and even though we know it's fake I wouldn't be surprised if 1 or 2 of the names in this leak ends up becoming a correct prediction (my money's on Toliv).

Just to give my two cents: there is absolutely no possible way that any Pokémon this generation, let alone the evolution of a starter, will reference matadors or conquistadors.

Pokémon have departments made specifically to avoid causing offense abroad. Everything goes through committee after committee to ensure no controversy.

Naming a Pokémon after an act of animal abuse, so controversial abroad and very controversial at home is silly. Especially since Pokémon wants to distance itself from accusations of dog fighting. Perhaps Tauros will represent the concept of a “fighting bull” but it will be used for races or some such.

Conquistador references are just ludicrous, sorry. Perhaps a euphemism like “explorer” but conquistadors are something which would obviously cause controversy if referenced. They aren’t dumb. They know what people will get mad it, and honestly, they shouldn’t name things after these things at all anyway.

Cultural importance doesn’t really matter if the thing being referenced is so abjectly horrible.
Well they clearly don’t do their job or they were implemented very late given Pokemon’s history, even past Gen 1. Even in Gen 8, there is a Pokemon that’s a monkey with an Afro.

The dex leak may have proven false (rip to the insane names like Volcaiman) but is it possible we are still on track to getting the regular weekly trailer before the release date trailer?

I'm guessing if we get one before release it'll be this week; we've had a thursday trailer before so the same could happen here. If it doesn't happen I don't think we're getting anything until release.

Back in SwSh we did get a quick trailer just a few days before release but with very little new info (iirc just quick shots of Mr Rime and Runerigus)

I think we could get another gimmick trailer this week (like Grafaiai or Wiglett being essentially shadowdrops), but that be our last pre release trailer with substancial info. Then one before release going over all we know so far (+maybe one or two mons like last time) and a week or so after release we will probably get one with the starter evos so they can put them on the site

They might announce a trailer this week, or they might wait and do something like the final Legends Arceus trailer, which teased the starter evolutions by showing silhouettes of them. If they did that again, I don't think it would be starter evolutions, but I could see paradox pokemon being hinted at or shown in a launch week trailer

Although anything revealed in a launch week trailer will almost certainly have leaked by the time it's released

Galarian Darmanitan has a weird design, but I don't think it's meant to have an afro. I think the snowball on its head is meant to be a headdress/turban. Likewise, I've seen people express distaste for its lips, but I think that's meant to be a beard. It seems like they wanted to keep Darmanitan's religious origin but make it look like it's wearing some sort of Sikh outfit, instead of just being a Buddhist doll

For the record, the people who are proud of toreros and conquistadores over here in Spain are pretty much the equivalent of confederate fans in the US.
I could believe that about conquistadors, but it seems odd that that would be the case about bull fighting given its still a thing, which it would seem like it wouldn't be if the people who supported it were a minority.

Where did the "leaker" of the Pastebin name list claim there was going to be a trailer today? Because it wasn't in the Pastebin itself.

I've never heard anyone say its meant to be a sikh headdress....
I think it's just meant to be a reverse snowman (note that it becomes a "proper" snowman in Zen Mode, with the "head" shrinking down to proper proportions and getting an actual face on it)

and the lips are actually meant to invoke a santa beard, specifically. to go with the vague winter themeing.

It'ssssss a pretty messy design, definitely. It gets weirder when the snowball on its head also probably contains its flame sac judging by where the fire is coming from in Zen Mode.

I had a Pokemon OC a while ago that was an anthro Tauros dressed like a bullfighter and carried a sword, he fought humans. Now that I think about it, was that a bad idea in hindsight?

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure that's the intent, but when Sword came out I read some long arguments where people reached that conclusion (and it's included on its bulbapedia page, although obviously that's not authoritative). It's definitely a snowman, but given Unovan Darmanitan's origin in Japanese Buddhism, I'm willing to buy that the snowball is meant to double as a religious garb. But yeah, messy design either way

The original post.

EDIT: Speaking of which, this is a good example of using Occam's razor where the simplest explanation (the pastebin being fake and based off leaked info) is more likely than every inconsistency being excused by assuming that both Khu and Kaka were wrong about pokemon names or visual designs.

To add on to this, Head Charge is even called "Afro Break" in its original Japanese language, which is also why we have yet to see another Pokemon get it.

Move over, Blazing Apocalyptic Lightburst, there's a new foreign name in town.
Also, am I the only one who thinks that Bouffalant should have a Rock Head clone instead of Reckless? It has so much hair it shouldn't even be able to take any recoil damage at all.

Ask me again in about 17 days or so, I'll have an answer.

It's just a snowman. Unovan Darumaka and Darmanitan are based on Darumas, and snowmen are called "Snow Darumas" in Japanese. Its just a silly pun thing, people are looking too deeply into it (Also Zen Mode is called "Daruma Mode" in Japanese, and in both cases that form makes their shape even more like a Daruma/Snow Daruma then normal).

I only ever saw the pastebin.

It seems weird to act so confident and then announce that there'd be a trailer like two days later.

Though we don't actually know where this "leaker" lives or if Tuesday was meant to be Japanese time or the time where the leaker lives, cause it's still Tuesday for another 3 to 8 hours in North America depending on where you are.
They hedged their bets on a trailer going up on the first or at least announcing a trailer since it was common for a Tuesday Announcement for a Wednesday Trailer to occur

Bullfighting is far more of a thing in Mexico than in Spain. Some rich families are linked to it, but, BY AND LARGE, it is utterly despised by the vast majority of the population. According to a 2020 study, 47% of the population supports banning bullfighting, and 35% wouldn't ban it but are opposed to it. Only 18% of the population in Spain supports bullfighting, and even within conservative people the opinion is almost evenly split between supporting it and not supporting it but not wanting a ban.

Anyway, the issue with leaks is that a precise one will be surrounded by fake ones, and even glory hounds that try to make their legit stuff into a far greater deal.

Freaking Hiro in 2013 and his milking of the Fairy type blew up in his face once he started to talk about Megas that weren't in the game.
