Whereas CC is still useful even if your opponent isn't packing garg (discharge, steam eruption, flinching, defense drops, etc) boots literally do nothing if the opponent doesn't use hazards. The only difference is that hazards are more common than strong secondary effects. It feels weird to say that strong secondary effects are broken unless there are a lot of them, in which case preparing for them is "reasonable".

No offense but this is just reaching to try and make CC seem like a better item than it is. And salt Cure isn't just a strong secondary effect, it's a strong secondary effect that is literally riskless unless the opponent has Covert Cloak or a Pokemon packing sub, or double Regen cores.

It'll drop to UU as soon as the Tapus return when Misty Terrain and Electric Terrain make Spore a match-up fish. Amoonguss dropped to UU in the gens that had the Tapus.
not sure whether the tapus will even come back this gen. it's possible that crown tundra's wacky zany chock-full-o'-legendaries nonsense was a one-time deal and the ones that came with home might be all we're getting, in which case amoonguss will continue to remain amoong uss. also, koko + quark drive users sounds like a fucking nightmare

They will bring legendaries for sure but I don't think that ultra beast or the Tapus are coming back so they don't overlap with the ruin mons and paradox mons.

The thing is that Tapus and the Ultra Beasts returned in Gen 8 even though they didn't really have much to do with that gen. There's no way to say for sure that Gamefreak isn't planning on bringing back most of the legendaries (although Tapu Lele will probably be banned really fast) in the second DLC and usher in a super age of powercreep.

Yes, but at least they don't overlap in "concept" in that gen with other mons. Paradox mons are very similar to ultra beast on stats distribution and the ability to boost their stats, but the paradox mons is the refined version of that concept while the tapus and ruin mons have abilities that affect the field and the idea is that you can make teams around them. Also, I think they won't release Koko so during the season while the big legendaries are allowed people can get crazy over paradox mons getting free boost without having to use their item slot or using a bad mon.

You can speculate but ultimately GF will do whatever they want.

Even if the Tapus came back, Amoongus still matches up very well defensively into 3 of the Tapus, resisting Dual-Stabs from them and not having much they can do in response with next to no coverage and Fini presumably not regaining Scald.

Theorymon aside, this is to say that Amoongus has a very good defensive profile given even with Home, there isn't a massive usage for its weaknesses (the Galarian Birds plus Kanto Zapdos and Tornadus being the main new additions that consistently carry SE moves) compared to things it matches into pretty well (Tusk, several Kingambit Teras, Utility-Lighter Lando, Sneasler without Fire Punch or Gunk Shot, Iron Valiant without Psychic Coverage). Spore is always a good way to capitalize on a free turn, but coming into and blocking these threats at all is helpful for momentum. Several things it checks actually leave Boots sets with effectively no damage or even a net gain on Health if they swing once and then leave (given in several cases they're using Low PP moves or even self-debuffing moves like Close Combat.

With Hazard Chip being at an all time high, being able to "check out" some Pokemon even one more time is a surprising amount of work, so a bulky Regenerator mon is always in demand (just look at Glowking arguably being the best defensive mon in general right now)

Lol that cresselia set has been really getting on my nerves … such a bulky Pokémon !

it’s usually Tera poison with calm mind, moonblast, stored power and recovery.

thoughts?

just became extremely common on the ladder, lost 5 games in a row to cresselia due to having a team weak to it.

yeah, I been using it thoroughly. Busting peoples ass with it but to be honest it becomes pretty down to earth if you don’t have screens up. Like if you have a dark type like a Kingambit even if you Tera Poision after +2 Kowtow will start doing a lot of damage and Moonblast +2 won’t be able to catch up. Yeah I love that Cress set though I had a conversation with my friend that I think Cresselia is a B+ viability really based off of that set because it’s not easy to bring down especially with screens in play.

Allow me to introduce you to Tera Fighting+Tera Blast in that case! It flips some of Cress's matchups upside-down like Poison does, and while the unfortunate Flying and Fairy weaknesses aren't ideal you gain a Dark resistance which is extremely useful in the Kingambit MU.

Obviously it's not as universally safe as Tera Poison, with how rare Psyshock tends to be right now, but I think being able to flip the script on the best mon in the tier is a gamechanger.

Amoongus is great, and definitely will end up at least UUBL. But I think it's plenty strong enough to stay in OU.

I don't think you quite understand what UUBL means. Amoongus would have to get banned from UU to be UUBL. BL has nothing to do with usage. If Amoongus drops to UU it will be completely fine there. it's OU by usage because it has great niche, not because it's broken in UU.

I like to go Sub over Moonblast, which isn’t a good idea due to the plethora of Dark Types that now completely stonewall you. However if you load into a team that doesn’t have a dark type or that dark type Teras… oh boy.

:sv/hitmontop:
Yall remember when Hitmontop was moving up to the higher tiers and stayed in that tier last gen? (Because of omega trolls)
:sv/iron treads:
History is repeating itself in a horrible way. Treads is the OU of a goddamn fly: you want it off your back SO BADLY, but eventually you forget about it. The even funnier thing would be if Iron Treads is UUBL
:sv/garchomp:
And now this thing is going to be potentially UU. I dont know whether to be impressed or scared of the power creep

Wasn’t that the third time they did it lol? After ORAS and USUM. We’ll definitely get all the legends back in DLC.
