Metagame SV OU Metagame Discussion v2 [Update on Post #5186]

I posed this question in Tera Thread, but if we ban that aspect of Tera, what's stopping us from arguing that we need to ban Tera Fairy? Or Tera Water? I think this is truly the final nail in the coffin if it is what we assume to be and what will finally get that mechanic outta here.

And to answer your own statement, most of the cursed Tera abusers use it defensively to flip a matchup. This might genuinely make defensive Tera on sweepers unbearable

I was counting down the days until we'd see "well what if we just banned Pokémon from Teraing into Fairy" I think the day has come

Are we really talking about banning something we know literally nothing about
It's cool, it's part of the goddamn thread, this is the Speculation Thread after all

Yes, I'm a little bitter. I'm resisting the urge to spam the thread and the discord with silly matches because I'm actually having some decorum of fun in this tier, and I wanna geek out and talk about it.

Fucking Drifblim, dudes. Ever 6-0 with a Drifblim? Oh I'm sorry, I'm off topic.

I wonder how Deifblim will perform with Aurora tera?

Where are people getting “Aurora” from?
I thought that it was called Aurora type. Oh! I think I heard that in a video, where the person clearly states that it he's merely calling it that for convenience, and it stuck with me, so that explains my usage at least. Can't speak for everyone else.

At least you're having more success than I have. I'm been staring at Revavroom and Noivern the past few days trying to make them work. Also Slaking but I knew that project was doomed from the start.

Im losing a bunch, but that's because I'm too stubborn to drop a mon. My team isn't supporting each other as they should, but what am I gonna do? Not use Arboliva and Rillaboom ttogether? That's absurd.

EDIT: Oh, maybe Grassy terrain can help Revaroom?

While this is def not the place to post theories about stuff, I feel I should mention something that might seem interesting about this "Aurora Type".
As per the official website, any pokemon can become the type and Tera Blast as of right now is the only known move to become said type.
We also know that the move appears to be Neutral against Dragonite, a Dragon/Flying type. So right out the gate we can say it's not a Fuck you type move that is super effective to everything.
Things we can rule out.
1) It is not super effective to everything.
2) It is a Tera exclusive typing therefore we don't have to worry about some broken mon with it ( perhaps Terapagos, but that would go to Ubers anyway).
3) It is coming out in the second DLC specifically.

What we cannot rule out
1) It's defensive ability. One camp suggests it resists every type, another says it is neutral to all types. We just won't know until we see it.
2) In the Dragonite instance, that is a dual type pokemon. Something I have not seen anyone mention is the idea that it is a Type that is super effective too MONO type pokemon, those with only one type. In that case...
3) In Gen 8, Zacian, Zamazenta and Eterneatus all had moves super effective to Dynamax pokemon. In theory, this Aurora type "COULD" be an anti-tera tera type, one that resists all Tera boosted tera type damage and/or is always supereffective against Tera'd pokemon, regardless of Tera type.

We don't know enough about the mechanic yet and it is much further out than a month from now, so lets focus on the Teal Mask before we start worrying about this new type.

What do you think of the competitive potential of the starters, in particular Blaziken and Serperior?
Really hope they cause tera blast to be suspected.

Being real though, both will probably be underwhelming. Speed booster valiant kind of does what blaziken does but more immediate. I don’t see it being too successful, but then again in this gen you can just throw sweeper after sweeper at the opponent because defensive counterplay is not a concept that exists anymore.

Serp will be uubl. It lost defog, knock, and hidden power. It will have to run scarf in order to not be revenge killed by everything, or burn tera in order to try to sweep. It will be best as a cleaner with subleech or glare. Despite this, have fun stacking it on a brainless screens team anyway.

Btw my favorite real statistic is that over half of all mons resist grass. That’s why we have busted-on-paper grasses like serperior kartana and glide rilla.

Personally I think that serperior will learn Trailblaze. Let me know what you all think. Do you agree? Do you disagree? I would love to know.

It can just as easily not. I mean, Breloom didn't.

Seriously, not even a crack at the off topicness, not giving it to Breloom was very deliberate, and it makes sense why they wouldn't. I was pissed when I learned it didn't, but it makes a grim sense.

There is a difference between informed guesses on what will happen and pure speculation for the sake of it. For instance, we can make an informed guess that Clefable will lose Softboiled, as it was a transfer move only for several generations. We can make an informed guess that Clefable will not have Softboiled.

Alolan Ninetales has Hail and Aurora Veil in thw previous two generations, and neither of these have been removed (albeit Hail -> Snow). Assuming that Alolan Ninetales will have those two traits, and thus may have Overused viability is an informed guess.

Saying that a Pokemon will get a brand new ability and randomly different stats is unserious speculation.

Here is an informed guess versus arbitrary speculation:

-The new announced type comes alongside a screenshot with Tera Blast, which is Neutral on the opposing Dragonite. Scarlet and Violet updates Tera Blast's UI to be "Super-Effective" when the Terastilize button is pressed. Therefore, Tera Blast must be neutral, and very likely is not something like "Automatically changes type to be Super-Effective." Perhaps this means this new type is more regarding neutrality than getting an advantage.

-Because the Legend Plate exists in Legends Arceus, maybe this type allows you change STAB every turn to hit super effectively?

Regardless, this all effects the Overused Metagame, Underused Metagame, Rarelyused... These changes, the DLC, effects all of them. This is not a new generation incoming, it is an update to what we are playing.
