SPOILERS! Scarlet & Violet Leaks Thread - Data/Mechanics

*grumbles about lack of singles content*

I do have to wonder with the apparent expectation of optimized and high-levelled doubles sets if the grind can handle someone who doesn't like the previous postgame content (which, to my understanding, is not heavy on trainer battles). Where exactly would somebody how has done little before ID be getting a team?

I'm guessing it wont actuall require a lot of optimization, just solid levels and decent moves
It's still single player content, not marathon battles.

Post-game version of the final Kieren battle, and the Ogre Clan battles, are probably what it'll be like here just with 2 pokemon at a time.

Serebii!Joe mentioned he fought Amarys the Blueberry Elite 4 member but neither confirmed not denied whether she was a Steel-type trainer. Joe mentioned being unable to mention all the Gens 5 & 7 shout-outs (so no confirmation on whether Lacey is Clay's descendant or Crispin is Chili's son), so maybe he was just unable to mention this, too? It's also telling that the preview video cuts out any actual fights with Amarys.

The preview strongly implies that Drayton's ace is Archaludon (Drayton notably gets more Elite 4 fight footage than Amarys), which isn't saying much.

New Moves and confirmed IoA Move Tutors. New Moves are Supercharged Cell, definitely Electric, and Hard Press, maybe Rock or Steel type?
CURSE TM IS BAAAAAACCCCKKKKK!!!
Electroweb is also back as a TM

Joe mentioned Hard Press was Steel, and seemingly a Wring Out clone (even though Wring Out was nicked in SWSH?)

E: I suppose that isn't too surprising given that Psychic Noise has a Heal Block effect, and Heal Block was also cut in SWSH

So their giving the effects of old moves to new ones, Wring Out to Hard Press, Heal Block to Psychic Noise, Hidden Power to Tera Blast, etc

Forgot to mention this: Serebii!Joe notably mentioned that (emphasis mine) "There are, of course, a load of returning Pokémon throughout the Terarium, though I don't actually think I saw a single Paldean Pokémon among them in the wild but we saw many including Oricorio P'au Style" which, given what we know about the Blueberry Dex contents in https://www.smogon.com/forums/threa...pansion-pass-unconfirmed.3717051/post-9778440 (read: a sorry 3 Paldean non-Paradox Pokemon), sounds like it's pretty likely the Blueberry Elite 4 sticks strictly to the Blueberry Dex. Amarys looks much more likely to send out Empoleon than Gholdengo now. And it looks like Lacey's ace likely isn't a Chimecho evo...unless the Chimecho evo is stranded just like Dipplin2.

I think it's relatively clever honestly: cut a old useless move noone ever used, and reintroduce it as a different one with extra effect instead.

Not saying they'll be useful, i doubt it outside of lackluster moveset shenenigans, but beats having a bunch of both bad and boring normal type or status moves.

Here's my take RE: Levels and post-game curve

Most of the stuff I spent the last year raising past SV Endgame/regular post-game was stuff for Raids, a lot of which honestly isn't going to be very useful in a regular game context battle. My main-game team is still sitting like mid-70's and is probably what I'd be breaking out to go through the DLC, which I can verify required effort for the Ogre Clan and final Kieran/Ogerpon. The fact of the matter is that Levels in any RPG (not just Pokemon or Monster collection) are effectively a built in difficulty slider, so if you power grind the stuff you're gonna use, for the most part you're essentially conceding you'll play on an easier mode.

We've seen evidence that Pokemon can pull off trainers that take some thought even with the usual player advantage (foreknowledge, Brain > AI) in the Orre games (also Doubles Centric) assuming levels aren't too outlandish a gap, which I almost wonder if they're invoking that with the Doubles focus here since VGC and several move designs are based on that format for expanding interaction options a lot.

I also appreciate the DLC focusing on Doubles for that reason, as a frequent criticism I have and see about VGC is that it's based on a format the in-game doesn't train you for, alleviated here.

Worth noting that compared to Heal Block, Wring Out still has an existing "version" in the game with Regigigas's Crush Grip (wouldn't blame you for forgetting it), so it's less surprising they're doing a variant of it here.

Well it seems there are likely only a few TMs we do not know about

I'm just hoping one of them is defog, because otherwise its gonna be a rough ride in singles

Farigiraf was part of the Leaked Pokedex, one of the few Paldean Pokemon there.
This channels going to explode in 2 or 3 weeks

It should be noted re: difficulty that in Serebii's preview, he was handed a level 88 team with competitive held items and movesets and still struggled against Amaryst. 6-star raids (which are around lv90) can still kick your shit with lv100 properly-trained mons if you don't know what you're doing, so while rank-and-file trainers are obviously going to be mulched, I imagine the bosses are similarly going to keep raid-ready teams on their toes. At the very least it's nice that Postgame Kieran and the Ogre Clan were indeed a sign of things to come.

I really think people forget that if you're invited to a exclusive thing like that by a Nintendo company, you have to talk well of it or you're never getting a contract again.
Or you really think they would invite again someone who criticizes the game they were invited to play before release? Have you seen what happens to those who've done that to Bethesda or EA? :wo:

Trashing on Joe when he's literally trying to keep his access to official Nintendo-related channels is ... honestly, very smogoony, as usual.

While I agree in this instance, there is the context that Joe went to bat for SwSh extremely hard despite not being given any official press opportunities on this level for those (or any previous to my knowledge) games. While I wouldn't expect him to join in on the mockery of Gen 8's (or 9's) technical faults or content for the above reason, there was still the choice to not acknowledge the mob or draw attention by engaging with that aspect, since Serebii presents itself primarily as an informative website akin to Bulbapedia rather than a review or critical forum.

It's a founded interpretation of Merrick's defensiveness over the IP, that is not applicable in the context of this particular bit of PR.

Joe's just kind of...like this, all the time, even when he doesnt need to be. I don't think he's putting on an act or anything he's just like that.
It's the same air that leads to tut-tutting about Dogasu mistranslating a thing in the lead up to the anime's ending, despite not doing any sort of corrective tweet before (or after). Or the times I've just sort of sat parallel to an argument about one thing ro another where I see him argue ithat actually Problem isn't a Problem (the developers try so hard, also it doesnt matter, that kind of thing) and either sidestepping any legitimate grievances or moving the goal post immediately.
Any time there's an issue (the raid bug, the save corruption, whatever) always gotta do damage control beyond the "here's the facts".

But all that aside I just think, even in the style of how its a preview and you're going to be glowing because its a pokemon website, "most ambitious" is a bit much when nothing in his preview really emphasizes it. It's one line that got me rolling my eyes; the rest of the preview was fine. Other previews I've read are pretty leveled too (beyond being excited, of course)

Yeah, we shouldn't trash on a guy just trying to keep open sources of official Nintendo information for everyone!

No for real he's a legit shill. He once took offense to the idea that Game Freak rushes their games and needs more dev time.

There's a difference between "trying to be nice for press access" and "borderline bootlicker" and he's closer to the latter.

Oh wait he did? That is... worse than i thought
Also, remeber the limited distrubution of Toxic and Scald in Teal Mask, Weavile might not get Triple Axel back

Yeah the closest thing Joe has said to a "critical of GameFreak" opinion in the last few years was a tweet saying that he's tired of Pokemon remakes lol, you aren't getting a legitimate critical opinion out of him.

Certainly not impossible, though a closer comparison would probably be Dual Wingbeat which had mostly the same distribution but Dragonite missed out compared to last time.

Curse is probably going to be the one that gets a Toxic/Scald situation of drastically limited distribution

Hopefully TM Superpower returns, as I really want Flareon and Luxray to be better

Honestly the second DLC seems a bit lame, but I do like the idea of tougher battles and doubles. He seems to imply there are no towns, which makes me think it will be like the bland expansive areas of the main game. Which were the weakest part. Though the towns do tend to be click fests.

Tougher battles and doubles certainly sounds like fun though. That is where most of the fun in these games are. I liked the battle tower/mansions in previous games. Those are great for when you don't have a stable connection and this being a mobile game, I would think that would be a must have feature.
