I use the actual game and ds lite. It is very easy to find where you are located as you can check the PIDrng which is for natures and what pokemon you encounter(if you are doing wild capture rng). As for IVs i dont think there is any real good way to check other than looking if your ivs match the ones the seed gives you. But since the timing is fairly easy since you just have to get it to the second, the ivs are usually not a problem.
Edit: I use the genetic method or method 4 on that guide
