Yeah, that was the right thing to do, it's still just research for now :)
And about ram hack in general, it's useful if you want to test a spread on FR or Emerald method2 for example, but then you have to catch the poke without ram hack in order to trade it imho.

What I thought you guys all did was reach somewhere near and save a state and then reach any Pokémon from there. I can't imagine not doing that if I'm denied a simple RAM edit.
