Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

Fighting / Steel again.. what is their problem. Its description talks about defensive and further speed as well.

"Z Mega Evolutions such as Mega Lucario Z need less time to fire off moves after receiving an order. But Z Mega Evolutions also burn through Mega Power very quickly, making them less suited for long battles, so try to settle matches as fast as possible!"
Kind of a weird mechanic to tack on but I mean, sure. Wonder how this will be reflected in regular games...more BST boost?

And seriously such a missed opportunity to not have these "extra" megas change their typing.

I feel like this mechanic and trying to encourage faster gameplay might be a response to how campy this game’s Ranked meta has become, you’re literally incentivized to run in circles sometimes :row:

Mega Lucario Z
I don’t know why but something about this render reminds me of Mega Lopunny:

One more for the collection.

The website's descriptions of Lucario tries to emphasize an increase to defense (& speed) both by name, making shields with its aura and having more prominent steel protrusions, so maybe this one will be more defensive than regular mega lucario.
Maybe it'll pull stuff out of special attack and lean into those aspects?

Or, you know, since:

* Normal Mega Lucario already slightly leans Physical and is a offense powerhouse.
* Base Lucario actually has a higher Special attack.
* It's Signature Move is a Special Move.
* Mega Lucario Z seems to lean in on using aura to do things like create barriers.
* In the trailer we see between an Aura Sphere exchange it KOed normal Mega Lucario while it tanked the shot.

Maybe we can do a little crazy idea and make Mega Lucario Z a Special attacker (and it'll probably also have higher Special Defense) and take away from its Attack stat instead?

Megalucario has almost identical Atk and Spatk. It's used as physical attacker cause well, Close Combat, Extreme Speed and Bullet Punch exist compared to its much worse special moveset, but if it actually had good special moves it'd be perfectly capable of being a special attacker. (Moreso since it learns Nasty plot)

The trailer mostly showed it using special moves. Going by the site's description, I would assume this form leans more into Speed and Bulk, maybe even dropping some offenses for it. I think a support-oriented Lucario is really interesting for things like Coaching, Follow Me and Quick Guard and its a very different role from Mega Lucario so I don't mind it as much that it doesn't change type

I'm also willing to bet it takes the Tinkaton and Araquanid approach of "Support-oriented mon with one specific way to dish out a lot of damage"

Mega Lucario and Dragalge both have Adaptability. It could be a coincidence, but it could also be hinting that Zega Lucario has Mega Launcher. This would boost Aura Sphere to be a sure-hit Focus Blast while also letting it healallies for 75% HP with Heal Pulse

I definitely hope that’s the case, more viable Mega Launcher mons is always fun and maybe they could make Flash Cannon compatible with the ability too as a treat (please… special Steel types are starving if they’re not named Gholdengo or Iron Crown)

Corrected my post.

So I just tried several ideas how they could give Mega Pokemon higher BST and numbers just went all over the place. Honestly I'm going to throw my hands in the air and just work with what we know, at least what I'm assuming is still true: They'll at least have the +100 BST increase.

Working with that, let's make a faster, more defensive Special Mega Lucario:
Normal Mega Lucario: 70/145/88/140/70/112//625.
Ideal Mega Lucario Z: 70/70/100/155/108/122//625.

Doesn't look too bad, and if it gets a BST increase as is being insinuated than those extra points can go its defensive stats further bulking it up.

As for Ability, Mega Launcher would be nice (them using Dragalge and Clawitzer seem pretty intentional in that regard)... BUT, being they're pushing for a defensive & speed angle, I can also see something like Filter, Stamina, and Speed Boost as also possible options.

I'm also willing to bet it takes the Tinkaton and Araquanid approach of "Support-oriented mon with one specific way to dish out a lot of damage"

That could work too. Re-skin Gigaton Hammer to a Fighting-type Special "Aura Storm". Or, if that's too powerful, maybe a Move like Burn Up which is super powerful but Lucario will end us losing its Fighting-type (which could be why they made MLZ look more metallic).

I definitely hope that’s the case, more viable Mega Launcher mons is always fun and maybe they could make Flash Cannon compatible with the ability too as a treat (please… special Steel types are starving if they’re not named Gholdengo or Iron Crown)

Making all the "Ball & Cannon" Moves work with Mega Launcher would be pretty neato.

I did not expect Lucario to get a second Mega, but I guess it makes sense since it is a popular Pokémon. Design-wise, I think it looks a lot more different compared to regular Lucario than the regular Mega Lucario. Either way, I'm personally happy about it since I have trained a regular Mega Lucario for one of my post-game teams. Once the DLC is out, I guess I should try making it a Mega Lucario Z instead. I hope Lucario Z will be Physical since that's how I trained my Lucario. The trailer gave me the impression that it will be more Special oriented, but the flavor text makes it seem like it will be a Physical attacker. But we'll know soon enough.

Regarding the Mewtwo mission, I'm really happy about it. I played through it earlier. Catching Mewtwo took a while, but it was hard-walled by my AV Yveltal, so it couldn't do much to me while I threw balls at it. After catching it, I Hyper Trained, Minted and EV-trained it into a Special attacking Mega Mewtwo since I like it better than X. It will be added to one of my post-game teams. I'm also glad to see it learns Psystrike.

They are not coding up new mechanics and shoehorning them into a dlc at the last minute to balance a two month old pseudo-competitive format!!

Anyways, I like the design of MLZ, except for this dowsing-rod-looking emo hair thing it has going on. Drop that and it would be perfect. A tad boring it didn't change type, especially since the Z mega mechanic doesn't sound that interesting on paper.

I’m not sure I’d venture to say the majority of Sinnoh’s characters are that much more popular than Kalos’s, though. Like, is Byron really that much more beloved than Valerie?

Sinnoh really just has the walking nuclear arsenal of popular appeal that is Cynthia. Legends: Arceus didn’t even bother to ancestorize a handful of DP’s characters.

My sense is that this all has a lot less to do with popularity (though I’m sure that’s a factor to some extent), and more to do with the game concept. Arceus was a game set in an early version of Sinnoh; the first game they’ve done that doesn’t take place in the series’s contemporary era, so they probably wanted to emphasize the connections between the people back then and the characters we know in the present. On the other hand, Z-A is entirely localized within Lumiose City, meaning that characters from other parts of the region have less of an intrinsic reason to be there, and not only that, but it’s also a Lumiose City that is in the process of evolving due to the consequences of XY’s story causing a chunk of the population to abandon ship.
tbh I literally had to google to find out/remember who Valerie was.

This question to me also depends if we mean as a whole or specifically the game incarnations. In the various Manga there tends to be a sort of "top dog" among the Gym Leaders like Erika for Kanto, Winona for Hoenn, and I know in at least one DP manga that role for Sinnoh was Byron. Plus, his Dan Green shouting anime incarnation is very memorable even if not particularly deep. Like is TPC/Gamefreak considering series wide appeal for characters to market/reintroduce, or does it focus on their most popular/most-related appearance to the hypothetical return (i.e. a Game-popular but Anime-whatever character vs a "oh neat" all around character reception)

I always found it odd (possibly a "lost in translation" difference) that Mega Launcher and Bulletproof came out in the same Gen and despite the artillery/projectile sound of their flavor, they literally only overlap on one move (ironically enough for the main topic in this page of the thread, Aura Sphere). The lists have even seen minor tweaks over the generations, with new moves getting added with the flags such as Terrain Pulse for ML, and Syrup Bomb or Beak Blast for BP, so it's not even like the abilities are just forgotten novelties.

Back to the original topic, Mega Launcher would actually be another good contrast on Mega Lucario Z: Adaptability focuses on the original Mega's STAB damage for nuclear output, while Launcher would emphasize Coverage options (since even with identical boosts the Special moves are lower BP) on top of the Heal Pulse novelty mentioned.

Worth noting how Brock and Clemont have basically gotten nothing in Pokemon Masters since the game launched while Misty has 3 costumes total, a pittance compared to other popular female characters like Rosa and Cynthia. Evidently the popularity of their anime incarnations has counted for nothing, generally speaking they keep the streams of the franchise's branches pretty uncrossed nowadays outside of little references and easter eggs (e.g. the Mythicals in LA's Path of Solitude fighting the signature Pokemon of their respective movie villains)

Does anyone know how Mime Jr. evolves in this game? My guess is that in Lumiose it’s Kantonian Mr. Mime, while in hyperspace it’s Galarian, but I’m not sure. I’m wanting to evolve my Mr. Mime into the Galarian because I don’t want raise another for Mr. Rime.

Looking at sciresm's data dump, it only evolves into regular Mr Mime. So seems you will have to catch a different one.
