Pokémon Champions - releasing April 8, 2026

It's kind of crazy how unfathomably bad Innards Out is for a Mega.

You are giving up a functional ability and your Mega slot for a gimmick that only activates when you Mega is KO'd, and it will trade at best. There is no guarantee of a revenge OHKO because the damage dealt is based on what HP value you were at right before fainting.

It's like Game Freak's designers were actively trying to see if they could outdo Mega Audino and make the worst Mega possible.
Venusaur sad to see his fellow grass/poison kanto buddy treated this way. Like yeah he took sun sweeper and tanky mega options but you could have given it so many poison abilities, like poison steels.

The 10 years backwards japanese dev way of thinking strikes again. No freedom allowed for their players. Player customization is good, music is good, but not letting me have full control over battle format/timer is insane.

I see what you did, you sabotated champions roster, items and megas so M-Scovillain could shine.

You bullies :(
Scovillain gang is mostly eating, but one unfortunate thing is that the gutting of a million items has led to Lum being more common.

Been watching Joey farm up with a rage powder set with Garganacl team up. Salt cure and leech seed's damage is nerfed but getting half ot the opponent's team burned off rip is pretty fun to watch.
It appears Leech Seed hasn’t actually gotten nerfed and the description is just wrong. I’ve seen mons take 12% from Leech Seed each time.

I totally understand why they have only made small selections available at first- but the selection is so minuscule that it actually limits teambuilding instead of encouraging more creative ways IMO.

Anyway Mega Meganium won, she's on top. queent!

(this game, like other pokemon games, is an embarassment of missed opportunities, but even more so considering all the cosmetic stuff / solo stuff / challenges they could've added - seals, better effects for balls, changing balls etc)

VP is surprisingly not disgusting to get though.

On positive note, compared to the other giant "missed opportunities", this one is supposed to get constant patches/updates instead of being "mostly done" like the main games are.
that's true, which is why I'm just taking it as it is. I do really appreciate the efforts to balance a few things and to allow an easy intro to VGC without dealing with the standard troublemakers off the bat.

Honestly if we had a decent solo mode I would be enamoured with this game. Really hope they just port over the Battle Tower from BDSP and a few other facilities eventually.

(PWT when!!)

Damn, I wanted Levitate Glimmora, now it's just another boring hard hitter.

Clef= Good, though if you use it instead of Sableye in Stalls, you do need to find counters for Mega Medi and Mega Zam.

Wanted Contrary Crabominable, instead got a Trick Room Mega. Could be worse I guess.

Chandelure has some use vs Screens and Subs... but base form already did that. Bad.

Victreebel is funny and better than Pyukumuku as Innards Out user. Still bad, but has something unique.

Hawlucha pretty bad. Zapdos won't be walling it due to SE always hitting, but if it runs HJK, Protect users will eventually screw it up and strong inaccurate opponents too. Ability gives more problems than benefits.

Chimecho ended up being predictably good.

Drampa is another TR Mega.

Meowstic... Outclassed almost fully by Zam. I guess setting hazards works but why do you use a Mega for that?

I welcome Golurk and Drill, not for their own merits, but for Urshifu nerf, fuck that Mon.

Skarmory will have to aura farm with Stats alone, looks better than Audino as a Mega without ability in Singles, but that's not something to be proud of.

Grass types ended up winning this round: Meganium, Scovillain, Chesnaught and even Victreebel go from niche to goated.

I think it's theoretically functional in a singles setting as an anti-setup mon, as long as you keep Victreebel healthy. This thing switches in on a Pokémon with boosts threatening to sweep. Do you choose to KO it, sacrificing your sweeper in the process, or do you opt to keep your sweeper and switch out, leaving your switch-in vulnerable to Mega Victreebel's potent mixed attacking stats or its rather robust selection of disruptive attacks (Knock Off, Strength Sap, Sleep Powder, Gastro Acid I guess?)?

I think it falls apart because you have to divide up what you want Victreebel to do if you want to make the most of Innards Out. Gotta sacrifice some offenses or Speed to max HP, can't run every utility move you want if you also want to have an offensive presence. Victreebel's lack of coverage is also a hiccup, even if Sucker Punch is convenient.

I guess I think Innards Out on an offensive Pokémon is a pretty cool idea, but I can agree that it's awkward on/not the usual "immediate power" one expects from a Mega.

I laughed about mega emboar getting mold breaker... but now after playing the official 3v3 ladder I'm understanding the vision and wishing it was on more of the megas;

It was going to be a Trick Room Mega anyway. It loses Speed and Ice Hammer lowers its further. Giving it Contrary would have been kind of odd, honestly.

I mean that's the rub, isn't it. You have to keep it healthy. Like basically at 100%. You have options there, but they're either draining moves with bad typings or the inherently inconsistent Strength Sap. Good luck trying to stay topped off.

And, since its MO is to threaten to die on you, it ironically doesn't want to be good at tanking kind of? If it manages to survive a hit with barely any HP and the get KO'd that means Innards Out will do squat.

Does anyone know how the stats points compare/convert with the old EVs? I read there is a maximum of 66 stat points.

afaik, 1 SP equals 8 EVs. Maximum SP per stat are 32 (32 x 8 = 256). Since EVs translate to +1 extra point every 4 EVs, and the game ends the EV count per stat at 252, each time you invest all 32 SPs there are 4 extra points that aren't being used (from 253 to 256). After you've invested, say, 32 SPs in 2 different Stats (Attack and Speed, fe.), there are 8 extra points that aren't being used. Those 8 extra points amount to 1 SP. Since there's a maximum of 66 SPs, 32 + 32 gets you 64. There's still 2 SPs left, but we've said you can't use 1 of those SP, so in truth there's just 1 SP left that instead of giving you 8 EVs gives you 4, since the game cannot read past 510.
