No, not really. If he keeps messing you up just save and do your seed again. Waiting for him to advance is inconsistent and could mess you up more than just redoing the seed.

There's one guy (I think its either the Pokefan or the Youngster right outside of the Ilex Forest) that turns in place and that will mess up your frame if he does.
It's definitely easier to do with Typhlosion on the older games as it gets ThunderPunch pretty early on in golden rod :P
