no i just plugged my USB connector in then i plugged it in to the USB cord but i did open the device manager befor i plugged it in

you dont have to have it plugged in to ur DS either
try it with a SD card
you just wont need to install drivers for a new one since there already there

no just your DSi AR just needs to be plugged in to the USB connector
took me only a min or 2 after plugging in my AR in to the USB
oh and click the update tab in the AR device manager that will update your firmware and lemme know if it still loading
give it a min it should come up after that
