1v1 OMs and Old Gens are a big portion of the 1v1 metagame and its tournaments circuit. While we first held discussions on the main 1v1 thread and 1v1 boards, we have decided to move on a Smogon thread first to not allow the thread get cluttered, and secondly to get more exposure and discussion regarding these metagames so we can fully balance and create resources for them. We will not be including all metagames but the ones that are important to 1v1 on a wide scale.

Where the underused Pokemon step up!
Tired of playing the same old 1v1 with the same old over over used Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Mega Gyarados, and Zygarde? Well then here we have it 1v1 UU!

Usage Banlist:
Gyarados-Mega, Porygon-Z, Charizard-Mega-X, Mawile-Mega, Lopunny-Mega, Greninja, Charizard-Mega-Y, Metagross-Mega, Magnezone, Dragonite (BL), Venusaur-Mega, Zygarde, Tapu Lele (BL), Magearna, Aegislash, Zeraora, Tapu Fini, Gardevoir-Mega, Victini, Mew, Donphan, Kommo-o, anything banned by Standard 1v1.

Welcome to Monotype 1v1! Rules are simple:Regular 1v1, but all Pokemon in your team must share a type.

Added Clauses: Same-type Clause.

Banlist: Regular 1v1 banlist +

Kartana:Kartana has an extremely high attack and a pretty high speed, making it hard to deal with already, along with the fact that it has very good typing and only 2 significant weaknesses which are not as apparent as others typings. While it does have paper for special defense, it can usually outspeed and OHKO other mons with hard hitting attacks from a Banded set, or a Z-move. It also has amazing coverage with Smart Strike, Leaf Blade, Psycho Cut, Night Slash, Sacred Sword, and Giga Impact (which can just defeat anything with 181 physical attack and a choice band). In general in monotype 1v1, speed isn't necessarily of the essence, as most typings can't pull from a lot of faster mons, letting kartana outspeed most mons without a Choice Scarf

Necrozma:It is too versatile and combines bulk with a high Special Attack stat.It is essentially impossible to be walled since it's weaknesses are countered by Prism Armor and most importantly, the only type that can fully wall it is arguably the most uncommon and not-useful typing in the entire metagame (Dark)

Snorlax:To counter this Pokemon, you need to run Substitute if you aren't running a Monotype Fighting team or some unviable Fighting dual type. It's bulk combined with it's access to Belly Drum and Yawn make it a huge problem in this metagame, especially in a metagame where not every team can afford to run a Fighting,Ghost,Steel or Rock type (even the latter 2 can be defeaten with a Curse set),or Substitute(still, even some Substitute users fail to defeat it.)

Council: Motogp, Dom, Freddy Kyogre, Landon

STABmons 1v1
Welcome to STABmons 1v1, a 1v1 format of the metagame STABmons! The basic idea of STABmons is that “Pokemon have access to moves that match their type even if they can't normally learn them”. So, with that in mind, let’s take it to a bring three, pick one format!

Banlist

STABmons 1v1 follows the standard 1v1 banlist with a few exceptions.

  • The following Pokemon are banned from being used in STABmons 1v1:
    • Kyurem-Black
[Incredibly strong already but now has access to stronger Ice-type STAB moves, and has Dragon Dance added to its arsenal. Already super strong, just pushed over the edge with new tools.]
    • Silvally
[Unable to be determined its typing from just Team Preview, making the game unable to be played with competitiveness in mind.]
    • Tapu Koko
[Broken in regular STABmons, and incredibly strong and versatile in STABmons 1v1, there is no reason to add Tapu Koko to the metagame as it’s simply just upgraded from regular 1v1 with a wider movepool and stronger options to use.]
    • Tapu Lele
[Prismatic Laser and Fleur Cannon make this so much stronger than in normal 1v1 and it’s already super strong in STABmons, so we’re banning it.]

  • The following items are banned from being used in STABmons 1v1:
    • Aerodactylite
[Far too strong with solid STAB options, resists FakeSpeed, and has a high enough Speed that you’re going to need to run Choice Scarf-holding Pokemon or a Study Pokemon always or you will lose, making it too strong.]
    • Focus Sash
      [Same as 1v1 - uncompetitive.]
    • King’s Rock
[No reason to unban it considering Cloyster is the main culprit here, with its access to Water Shuriken and Shell Smash to effectively cheese its way through the entire metagame that doesn’t outright KO it.]
    • Razor Fang
      [See: King’s Rock.]

  • The following moves* are banned from being used in STABmons 1v1:
    • Acupressure [Avoids Evasion Clause.]
    • Chatter [Uncompetitive.]
    • Geomancy [Way too easy to abuse on numerous threats in such a fast-paced metagame that the council deems it as unfair.]
    • Lovely Kiss [Sleep is really irritating and having such fast Normal-types in the tier make Lovely Kiss just too good to use.]
    • Perish Song [1v1 ruleset - uncompetitive.]
    • Shell Smash [Unfair to allow Normal-types to have access to such a ridiculously good move with little drawback, so we decided to keep it banned.]
    • Shift Gear [Similar to Shell Smash but it does what it needs to do for Steel-types instead, pushing too many over the edge.]
    • Sing [Pidgeot-Mega pushes this over the edge, but we decided not to ban Pidgeotite, only the move as no other Pokemon effectively uses this move.]
    • Spore [100% accurate sleep-inducing move on super fast Pokemon is wildly unfair and we believe that the move centralizes the metagame in a way which makes it unfun, so it is banned.]
    • Transform [Choice Scarf Transform and Eviolite Chansey with no real counterplay make this move incredibly broken.]
* = Still available on native learners!

However, in contrast to vanilla STABmons, the following are unbanned:
  • Pokemon: Kartana, Komala

  • Items: none
  • Moves: Belly Drum, Thousand Arrows
Council: N/A

Heres some Mono 1v1 stuff for everyone , taken from my recent post you can find here for more info https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/1v1-metagame-discussion.3587523/page-50#post-7775947 (go like ples)

Mono Water:
http://pokepast.es/76781642a7557508

Mono Electric:
http://pokepast.es/f6e5c9dbfa94204c
( A bit outdated with koko ban can swap around for other stuff no problem)

Mono Steel:
http://pokepast.es/d55094c95fc79342

I personally love to use mono dragon whcih has decent variety in mon driving from a komoo naganadel core

Also possible things i am working on is a mono bug centered around crustle pinsir and volcarona with options like araquanid scizor or more

and as long as i dont know how to do the hide spoiler thing youll have to deal with pokepast links.
More to come soon from me on the mono 1v1 front again

Deg asked me to post UU samples so here they are:
Deoxys-Speed @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 60 SpD / 44 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Amnesia
- Iron Defense
- Recover
- Taunt

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Giga Impact
- Iron Head

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt

The point of this one is to click Deoxys 90% of the time and if you see a counter to click the scarfer that beats it. If crits weren't a thing Deoxys would be way too busted.
Quagsire @ Normalium Z
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 244 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stockpile
- Recover
- Scald
- Toxic

Heatran @ Choice Scarf/Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ancient Power/Rock Tomb/Hp Ice
- Overheat
- Earth Power
- Flash Cannon

Tapu Bulu @ Grassy Seed
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Horn Leech
- Substitute

This one is pretty self explanatory, Quagsire beats a lot of the meta on its own with unaware. I like scarf on Heatran more than Air Balloon because it serves as a secondary Naganadel counter as Quagsire's Unaware makes it super difficult to beat it.
Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 168 HP / 112 Atk / 52 Def / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rain Dance
- Aqua Tail
- Earthquake
- Icy Wind

Manectric-Mega @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Magnet Rise
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Band
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 HP / 104 Atk / 152 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
- Zen Headbutt
- Gunk Shot
- Ice Punch

The only thing I have to say about this one is that the Swampert set isn't the most optimal one but its super fun to use so I kept it
3 last ones no description
Celesteela @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 220 HP / 204 SpA / 20 SpD / 64 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Air Slash
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
- Flash Cannon

Golem @ Groundium Z
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Counter
- Sucker Punch

Naganadel @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

EVs: 248 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon
- Shadow Sneak
- King's Shield

Primarina @ Waterium Z
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 216 HP / 252 Def / 28 SpA / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hydro Cannon
- Moonblast
- Energy Ball
- Aqua Jet

Hydreigon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate

Welcome to PU 1v1 2.0!
1v1 PU is an om based on using mons are interesting and fun to use, but can't be used in the higher tiers of 1v1 due to potential flaws that hold them back. Instead of using the 6v6 PU banlist, we instead created a banlist based on usage (pokemon ranked 100 and above cannot be used) and the decisions of the council.
Shoutouts to Tallydaorangez for allowing us to post this.

Catch The Wave
is a Forum Moderator Alumnus
1v1 UU Teams

Archeops @ Choice Band
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Head Smash
- Fly
- Outrage
- Earthquake

Necrozma @ Choice Specs
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 248 HP / 232 SpA / 24 SpD / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Prismatic Laser
- Photon Geyser
- Heat Wave
- Flash Cannon

Heracross-Mega @ Heracronite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pin Missile
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
- Rock Blast

A simple all offensive team capable of breaking past most bulky Pokemon like Mega Slowbro, Chansey, Primarina. Mega Heracross and Necrozma together can take on Sturdy Pokemon. Archeops provides power with more Speed.

Pheromosa @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Focus Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Volcanion @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steam Eruption
- Overheat
- Sludge Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Excadrill @ Groundium Z
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 212 Atk / 44 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Substitute
- Magnet Rise

This is another KOmons team with powerful hitters. Volcanion can use the Firium Z set (linked later) as well but Specs provides better coverage to take out Mega Altaria with Hidden Power Ice mostly.
Excadrill takes on all Sturdy Pokemon, the 44 SpD ensures
252 SpA Diancie-Mega Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 44 SpD Excadrill: 306-360 (84.7 - 99.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Band
Ability: Magician
EVs: 92 Atk / 252 Def / 164 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
- Zen Headbutt
- Gunk Shot
- Fire Punch

Lucario-Mega @ Lucarionite
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Meteor Mash
- Substitute
- Magnet Rise

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Yawn
- Protect

In this team Hoopa-Unbound and Mega Lucario are the powerhouses and Mega Swampert is a bulky offensive backup for faster powerful attackers like Victini (I don't have good EVs for Swampert so feel free to change the spread). Magnet Rise lets Mega Lucario take on Ground hits from mainly non Scarf Garchomp and Golem.
Hoopa-U can take hits from:
Scarf Haxrous 252+ Atk Mold Breaker Haxorus Outrage vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Hoopa-Unbound: 255-300 (84.7 - 99.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Talonflame Supersonic Skystrike (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Hoopa-Unbound: 244-288 (81 - 95.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Banded Gunk Shot Hoopa-U and Mega Lucario can together take on all the Fairy type Pokemon.

Victini @ Choice Band
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- Zen Headbutt
- Bolt Strike
- Flame Charge

Lucario-Mega @ Lucarionite
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Meteor Mash
- Substitute
- Magnet Rise

Haxorus @ Choice Band
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Superpower
- Iron Tail

Pretty self explanatory team with a set of physical attackers capable of taking most of the meta but notable flaws include Mega Slowbro, Scarf Garchomp, and Landorus-I.

Garchomp-Mega @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 224 HP / 196 Def / 76 SpD / 12 Spe
Impish Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Rock Tomb
- Swords Dance

Archeops @ Choice Band
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Head Smash
- Fly
- Outrage
- Switcheroo

Heracross-Mega (M) @ Heracronite
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pin Missile
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Seed

This is probably my best UU team of all time.
The Pokemon have simple roles though they can together defeat a huge portion of the UU meta.
Archeops and Mega Heracross being the powerful attackers while Mega Garchomp being the bulky survivor and hitter, occasionally setting up with Swords Dance and KOing bulky Pokemon too. Naganadel (Wasn't unbanned at the time) is the only clear threat to this team.
Serenity the Mega Garchomp is the real hero at the team preview as they can't tell if it's mega or not, mostly regular Garchomp is used so a Z Move or Band set is predicted while this bulky set can take advantage of that and defeat Pokemon that otherwise Garchomp wouldn't be able to such as Landorus-I, Sawk, Mega Diancie, bulky WaterZ Primarina and more.

I can't say much right now but Electrify Mega Sceptile can be very powerful in this meta.
I hate to reply to a really good long post only to nitpick the last sentence, but Mega Scept A: can't use electrify in stabmons and B: is banned from using it in sketchmons

genesect b+ -> a-
this things so sick. very unique mon. you all know what it does. i will say this though, mixed with douse drive for trans is so sick. y'all know what this mon does, just as good in oras as it is in sm.

mew b -> b+
kee is so good. y'all know that. i just think this thing is a better mon than the swamperts and p2s of the b rank. offensive, while probably the worst out of bw/oras/sm, is still usable. you guys know what it does, it's solid.

sawk b -> b+
im a huge fan of this mon even though i never fucking use it, lmao. awesome for pz and meloetta (annoying ass normals), can run whatever it wants really. band/scarf/custap covers a lot. versatile moves wise too, pjab rocks for whims. rock tombs neat too. a rank or 2 ahead of pert imo.

azu b- -> b
YALL SLEEP ON AZU SO HARD. av is so cool, and with however many evs to live an ada kyub bolt, covers a ton of high rank mons. super anti meta. also, defensive sap sipper while not perfect, can do the job if played well. this typing is so fucking good in oras man. av helps for pz and melo, too. there are very few mus where azu will not be considered by both players. run aqua tail over wfall btw, better for zardx mu.

mega heracross b- -> b
this thing's a beast. spdef is sick for pz/melo (think about those mons a lot while building). owns gyara, kyub whatever. counter is also super neat, and can beat chomper or dnite if you ev it right. b- is not doing this mon justice.

landot c+ -> b/b-
Has a lot more of a defined niche than lando-i. scarf rocks for beating pz, gren, other chomps, dnite, it's solid. better than landoi, anyw. a ground type scarfer that isn't shit? count me in. sludge wave for whims is solid too. offers neat options as a scarfer that something like chomper/landoi/camel can't. here's a replay where scarf capitalizes on the ability to beat pretty much everything, when chomp there would have a neutral mu.

terrak c -> c+
this mon's a BEAST. strong as hell, cool for zards, pz, kyub, all that common shit. anti meta and hits super hard, not a c rank mon by any stretch of the imagination. scarf is fine too.
drops

aggron a- -> b+
in a vacuum, aggrons aite. great physdef, headsmash for cheesing bad zards, whatever, right. but man, this thing is so extremely outclassed. it has pretty much no defining characteristics and mawile/heatran/mgross/whatever is better 99.99% of the time. there's a reason this thing has extremely low usage in oras tours. in a wco1v1 game i had, i used dual steels and neither was aggron, lol. its a good mon on its own but so outclassed.

landoi b -> b-/c+/c
i in early sm was a huge defender of this thing. cool koko, zard, and steel check. but in oras it's outclassed really hard by garchomp. scarf pz is common, so you can't even focus blast those. has pretty much no defined niche over garchomp.

hitmonlee b- -> c/c+ if youre lame
this thing's bad as fuck. little to no reason to use over sawk, mhera, or even some shit like infernape lol. trash, outclassed. haven't seen it in an oras tour after it was main gen.

avalugg c+ -> c

not sure what this mons niche is. never gets usage, unlike in sm it doesn't actually beat steels or anything. not particuarly unique, ig it has a good garchomp/dnite matchup, but so does uh, kyub. or even haxorus or whatever.

discussion appreciated. also world cup set/team dump coming from me soon, prolly

I agree on avalugg, hitmonlee, azu, sawk, mew

I disagree on Mega Aggron, it is actually a great mon, i really love using it as it is splashable on teams and can run different sets, curse and attacking+burst, sturdy is generally good and beats lot of used pokemon and mid-used pokemon like gardevoir, zard, sylveon etc.
Idk about Genesect it never stood up to me being a great Pokemon, seems ok on paper but lacks offenses and has overused counters.
I abstain on others.

to A+
I think I forgot to put this into VR but this mf is a beast, its probably the most splashable Pokemon in this metagame, great typing with its weakness only being fairy which is covered by most mons like steels and fires. beats many top threats from zard x, mega gyarados, mega meta, and some others like scizor, aegislash.

1542049372149.png
b+ to b
Kinda tried using this during wc but always felt lackluster, it's an okay mon, doesn't really deserve its spot in B+. It can beat some mons but it does less than other b+ mons and loses to a lot of high ranks mons. Also finds it hard to put in teams.
