man the new Arcade Fire singles are amazing so far.

also the new Gaslight Anthem album American Slang isn't their best, but it's really grown on me a lot since it came out

i tried to do a top 10 of the first half of the year but couldnt be bothered to finish writing about them so ill just list them:

7. robyn - body talk pt. 1
6. lcd soundsystem - this is happening
5. caribou - swim
4. fang island - fang island
3. beach house - teen dream

pretty much exactly my thoughts, this album is incredible though. i consider it just as good as sink or swim and 59 sound, it's just got a completely different feel to it. this band is the savior of rock and roll. i get nervous about every new release of theirs but they never disappoint.

Currently listening to: MIA's new album, and Big Boi's album.

Both are pretty solid, MIA's is pretty awesome. Big Boi's is great, need to give it a few more listens, dunno it if surpasses Speakerboxxx or not :p

Ayumi's Rock 'n' Roll Circus was really hit and miss, lots of great tracks and a few stinkers. Enjoyable, but I prefer Next Level. Speaking of JPop, Koda Kumi should be coming out with a new album sometime... She just released a new single (Gossip Candy, which is like... A-side x5 >_>. Might as well be an EP) Lollipop and Outside Fishbowl are good.

New Find:

I was watching a video on Youtube which had this really cool song, and found the artists Myspace. Have a listen:
http://www.myspace.com/s4lem

They're called Salem, and a couple of the tracks they have up sound pretty promising / real awesome. LP comes out Sept. 28th entitled "King Night" (Which happens to be the song I first heard)

a couple of mediocre reviews have me kinda worried about maya, and having listened to a bunch of the full songs on myspace...i dont know :|

Miley Cyrus: Can't Be Tamed*

Agagagagaga.

Anyway, man, Periphery is pretty awesome, I'm guessing you can ONLY get the instrumental version through iTunes? :C

And the new Joanna Newsom album... ugughghguh. I wouldn't touch that with 10... 10 foot sticks. It just felt like pretentious crap and it's sooo confusing.

But if you like it then hey, good for you.

might as well post a bad top 10 list. not much thought went into it, just albums that are better than most stuff i've heard this year.

in no particular order:

Kayo Dot - Coyote (progressive rock, avant-garde, trumpets)
The Blood of Heroes - The Blood of Heroes (doomy industrial, breakcore?)
Brasstronaut - Mt. Chimaera (indie pop that is actually good)
Faust - Faust Is Last (double album of krautrock, first disc is rocky, second is psychedelic / ambient)
Daughters - Daughters (hardcore)
Devo - Something For Everybody (stupidly catchy pop / new wave)
Fang Island - Fang Island (math rock)
Picastro - Become Secret (folk / slowcore)
ミドリ - Shinsekai (Melt-Banana with a piano)
Satanicpornocultshop - Arkhaiomelisidonophunikheratos (glitch pop)

stuff i like and that may appear in top 10 later:

Kyte - Dead Waves (dream pop with electronics thrown in)
Current 93 - Baalstorm, Sing Omega (neofolk)
Current 93 - Haunted Waves, Moving Graves (ambient)
A Silver Mt. Zion - Kollaps Tradixionales (post-rock)
Zs - New Slaves (headache inducing)

year is getting better, i have lots of anticipated albums as well. don't know if it will turn out better than 2008 / 2009 as a lot of stuff this year has disappointed me.

so what you're saying is that you don't like any albums that came out this year?

That is not what I meant at all, kind sir.
The first time I listened to The Resistance, I was blown away.
Although there are other good albums that came out this year, The Resistance is the only album that came out this year thus far that I think is "great" rather than good. As in one of my top twenty favorite albums I've ever heard kind of stuff, I mean.
EDIT: HOLY SHIT. Brain fart. It's 3:50 in the morning over here. I just realized that album came out in 2009. My bad.
Good catch there, champ!

Looking through my library, the only albums I have that came out this year are Sea of Cowards by The Dead Weather and the Alice in Wonderland Soundtrack (score by Danny Elfman). Both are good. Neither is great. AiW is borderline great, though.

I love the genres you're into, by the way.

What!!!? Why? :( I loved that album, it was great and better than Celtic Frost's Monotheist (another great album in my opinion).
it's long and boring.

but i'll give it another listen sometime soon.

a couple of mediocre reviews have me kinda worried about maya, and having listened to a bunch of the full songs on myspace...i dont know :|
yeah...it's not that great. =/

haha, yeah i know. makes me sad that i can't honestly say the album is garbage. i fucking HATE her. T_T

yes please buy the instrumental version.

but...there are other ways to get it too. ;)

A friend of mine is a hip-hop artist. He's been getting a lot of attention from some labels recently, he just released a new mixtape called Con Artest.

you can download it here. http://www.mediafire.com/?jllxjzqzvhh

I also lied about getting a lot of attention from some labels, but he's real good for a white dude.

Anyone who likes Daughters is cool with me ~_~

MIAs efforts to remain relevant are hilarious, to me anyway.

I havent had much time to find new music because Ive been working full time but I managed to snag Mater Suspira Vision's Zombie Rave 3. I love it.

Heard the new leaked Panda Bear singles too. The album is looking promising.

I did listen to a few Whiz Khalifa songs. I like what the kid says.

edit: Wishy if you like King Night check out Sip It Cut and Trapdoor by Salem.

Anyone hear the new HEALTH?

but...there are other ways to get it too. ;)

There sure are ;D

I really wish I had a job so I could actually buy this stuff, but like flashbulb once said, once the record labels are done with your money, there's practically none left for the artists. (Speaking of flashbulb, anywhere I can find an Arboreal torrent? RAR's scare me despite being a veeery easy way to get things)

Daughters - Daughters is... god, I don't even know what the fuck is going on and I love it, the weirdest vocals I've ever heard for what they are, but there's some serious groove up in here. I'm a bit more prone to Fang Island but this ain't bad at all.

Wtf is up with Daughters and Fang Island being so good and releasing albums that are at most half an hour long? You think I'm satisfied?! It's like, DAMN THAT WAS GOOD... that was it? Q___Q

Though I guess it's the kind of music that you can just listen to over and over again so the length doesn't really matter. Short, sweet and to the point I suppose.

I'm looking into Brasstronaut, Kyte and TSCUUTL as we speak, from what I've heard it's good stuff but... first impressions can be misleading.

It was pretty...........meh......quite honestly.
It's hard to say it was even good, as far as I'm concerned, less politically correct, angrier Radiohead.

And there's quite a bit of "great" music this year.

The Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma
Joanna Newsom - Have One On Me
The National - High Violet
Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty
Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid

All of the above are absolutely fantastic.
Especially, especially, especially, Janelle Monae's debut album.

As far as 2009 goes, Animal Collective, Phoenix, The Flaming Lips, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, and Grizzly Bear managed to rape that year with great albums.

Deschain: The Eluveitie album is called "Everything remains as it never was" (not always)
