2010 music

So Idunno if anyone here likes Ratatat but not that long ago they released their fourth LP, it's the same old washy(?) electronics that characterize Ratatat's sound with a bit of a darker feel IMO. Good stuff.

Kvelertak's pretty good but I'm not completely sold. Definitely entertaining though.

still need to snatch the new Ratatatatatatatatat.

keep listening to Kvelertak. it will keep growing on you in a big way. :naughty:

Body Talk Pt. 2 has leaked! It's not due out until September, album sales will probably suffer a whole lot unless the label ups the release date (Such as what happened with CCII).

About to give it a whirl~ (Thanks Deschain for telling me to listen to Body Talk Pt. 1 ;D)

ouch, iirc its exactly a month away from release :/

either way excitement!

also is anyone else watching the arcade fire webcast? starts in 45 minutes, hype building!!!!!!!!!!

oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my god

arcade fire live was amazing holy fucking shit i need to go to work in 4 hours ffffffffffffff

edit: triple post seemed abit excessive but oh man body talk part 2 is blowing my mind right now. in my eyes is maybe the best thing shes ever done, no joke. the whole thing is just so much bigger than part 1, srsly. include me out is like the catchiest fucking chorus set in front of this huge fucking thump of a beat. its some sleigh bells shit for sure. hearing hang with me again is totally awesome, and im hoping the acoustic version of indestructible at the end of this album will give birth to something half as good on part 3. i totally get m.i.a vibes from criminal intent and u should know better, which is SO GOOD aaaaaa.
robyns always made amazing dance/pop/electronica whatever look easy, but this is srsly something else. i definitely hear influences from stuff like m.i.a on the tracks i mentioned, aswell as some lcd on we dance to the beat (im not sure it works as well in the context of an album as huge as this though). also the hip-hop/dance crossover stuff. seriously why arent more people making music like this.

Man, Body Talk Pt. 1 was cool but Body Talk Pt. 2 is FIRE. o_o Criminal Intent, U Should Know Better, Hang with Me, Love Kills, Indestructible, Include Me Out (That's 6/8 likable tracks tracks right off the bat. Still need to give it a few more spins for sure). I can't wait for Pt. 3!

After listening to both parts, I prefer 1 to 2, but this is just personal preference. They're both ridiculously solid albums that you can drift in and out of quickly. I think I found my review topic for the new site that I'm writing at.

just got around to listening to recovery and you guys are kinda crazy. its pretty shitty imo. a couple tracks are kinda interesting, but eminems rapping is so bad it ruins everything.

love the way you lie is kinda catchy and rihanna is good (and really hot in the video, man), but eminem still tries to ruin it:

"you dont get another chance, life is no nintendo game
but you lied again
now you get to watch her leave out the window
guess thats why they call it window pane"

i dont...i just...good lord

Recovery is certainly better than Relapse and maybe better than Encore but the dude hasn't found his way back yet. At least he apparently knows that he needs to.

I cringe every time I hear that line. Ugh can lyrics get any worse + cheesier than that (At the same time)?

Some would say no. But others...

still no.

I'm loving Dead Waves by Kyte more and more every day, I think they're seriously one of my favourite bands now. <___<

I don't know if this interests anyone but there's this Chiptune band called Anamanaguchi and they're actually really really good, they're doing the music for SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, THE GAME but this year they've released 2 singles other than that, Airbrushed and My Skateboard Will Go On. It's kind of pop-punkish but... I don't know exactly. What it definitely is though is good music.

revival doesn't have as much soul and grit as original but obviously so good... kinda don't love gavin creel though. soo sad that it closed so early. definitely recommend listening to it though!!such good music:

Body Talk Pt. 2 is pretty damn good.

I usually wouldn't listen to pop, but after listening to La Roux I feel like getting into it.

i spent the last few weeks revisiting alot of the good stuff from last year i missed since this is something of a down period, and i feel like by comparison, 2010 isnt as good. the more i look at whats come out this year, i feel kind of underwhelmed :(

alot of the bigger releases underwhelmed me like i said earlier in this thread, stuff like the new porno's together, high violet, maya..eh.
and the stuff that i got really into earlier in the year i just cant get into as much now either, like caribou's swim, this is happening, and crystal castles and beach house to a lesser extent

i've spent a lot of time going back to stuff like bitte orca (which i've kind of fallen in love with even though i didnt think alot of it when i first heard it last year), st vincent's actor, fever ray, embryonic, DOOM's born like this, neon indian's psychic chasms, the pains of being pure at heart, passion pit..theres alot of stuff.

but i guess to bring this back to 2010 music and while im talking about the dirty projectors, their mini album/ep collaboration with bjork, mount wittenberg orca, is really interesting, and i've been listening to it alot lately. it sounds like the dirty projectors just really letting their arty side free even more so than bitte orca. the instrumentation is really minimal, with the focus being on the 4 voices all of which are just...ridiculously talented. id say people who liked bitte roca should check it out.

maybe a competetive pokemon community isn't the exact place to look for avid hip-hop fans, but i'm fairly shocked no one has mentioned probably the best hip-hop release this year! (next to lucious leftfoot, that is):

K.R.I.T. Wuz Here - Big K.R.I.T.

i first came across this guy in a pitchfork track review, and didn't think much of the track (as i don't think many would. it's titled Country Shit :|). like a week or two later late at night i saw this video (of the track Children of The World) on one of those MTV music video channels in the high hundreds and holy shit... i was blown away. i was amazed that the same guy who made a kind of jocky "rap star" persona on Country Shit made this track as well. it opens with a powerful "and they wonder why we bang / because the police do the same / that's the only rival gang" and ends with the beat stopping completely and KRIT doing multiple freestyle-esque verses about his struggles in trying to make a living on rapping, and without the beat to distract you it touches pretty deep.

after giving this release a couple of listens-through, i can honestly say it's one of the stronger hip-hop releases out there (that i've heard, anyways). the album was self released and produced entirely by KRIT himself (and very well at that). it has a very good balance of modern clubby hip-hop and down-to-earth, thought-provoking lyrics.

i doubt you guys will find this album as brilliant as i do, but if you're a fan of hip-hop at all you should deffinately give it a listen. (easy on the wallet, too, as he released it for free. cop it here)

I did a search for this in the thread and couldn't find it, so here it is.

In September the Canadian band "The Birthday Massacre" will release a new album entitled "Pins and Needles". I didn't think much of this band at first listen, but was soon won over. Their catchy synth sound mixed with some of the harder rifs and the chicks voice all caught my ear and now I adore them. They are goth/synth rock at its finest.

Looking Glass
Red Stars
Blue

All of the above songs are previously released, I can't find good leaks of pins and needles but there are 2 samples up at www.myspace.com/thebirthdaymassacre

Yeah K.R.I.T. probably had one of the best Hip-Hop releases this year, behind Pilot Talk and Sir Luscious. But still this year is really lacking, the only albums I really revisit and I feel like I will be revisting for a while are Pilot Talk and Cosmogramma.

Man Ive been meaning to check out Big K.R.I.T after he was mentioned on a Freddie Gibbs review. Im feeling Children of the World ~_~

As far as releases go, I gave Pill's mixtape a few listens but I find that his themes are too vulgar.

I checked out Freddie Gibbs' Str8 Killa No Filla and I enjoyed it a couple times through. The beats are all crazy and I like the way he writes his songs. Its not just punchlines and fillers :o

When they advance me this check,
Coulda bought my way to heaven, but I blow it on my neck

DAMN Big K.R.I.T is fucking nasty. I cant believe I overlooked this dude.
