2010 music

a friend of mine released his second ep, both of which can be found onthis site, its truly a piece of work, they are currently touring around the connecticut/massachusettes/newhampshire area check them out

also the new gorillaz album is pretty sick

i dont know if anyones seen this yet, but it's pretty hilarious/mindblowing:

justin bieber's "u smile" slowed down 800%

just stumbled across this on neogaf, it's 35 minutes long and sounds like sigur ros. i just downloaded it. fuck the haters.

neogaf said:
Maybe Bieber is a musical genius and all his songs are laid out like this. Get the money at regular speed and artistically express yourself at 800% slow speed.

edit: ok seriously this makes me want to download the software and start slowing down random songs. this is amazing.

kinda cute, but I hope it doesn't start some fad where people start slowing down fucking everything, it's not really that interesting after the first time.
however. sigur ros at 300% speed is still really funny.

to remain on topic, Fang Island's s/t is kinda interesting, don't really get the hype??
I also still don't get the National

I did a search for this in the thread and couldn't find it, so here it is.

In September the Canadian band "The Birthday Massacre" will release a new album entitled "Pins and Needles". I didn't think much of this band at first listen, but was soon won over. Their catchy synth sound mixed with some of the harder rifs and the chicks voice all caught my ear and now I adore them. They are goth/synth rock at its finest.

Looking Glass
Red Stars
Blue

All of the above songs are previously released, I can't find good leaks of pins and needles but there are 2 samples up at www.myspace.com/thebirthdaymassacre

I really like TBM but it's kinda sad that they probably won't do another album like Violet. Wish they would lessen the pop and get more industrial like they started. Oh well.

I dont get the new National either. Maybe I just need to give it a couple more listens, but right now it has nothing on Boxer.

when i first heard that song on the radio, i honest to god thought it was one of those tween disney channel grrrls singing. how old is? will he ever start puberty?

ANYWAY nothing much to report music wise from 2010, I've been going back and listening to albums from the last couple years yadda yadda

I thought's Beck's contributions were amazingggggggg.

He made some really kickass garage rock songs, and that song Ramona sounds like the old Beck. (The Beck that's 39680294 times more badass than the modern Beck which is already made of badass.)

Oh my Goddddddddddddddddd I am absolutely loving Robyn's Body Talk Pt. 2.

She collaborates with Snoop Dogg on a song called U Should Know Better which it makes California Gurls seem (even more) pitiful as far as Snoop on Pop songs goes.

Body Talk Pt. 1 showed us a funky, more experimental side of Robyn, while Pt. 2 seems to be a reminder of why her self titled album was so great.

EDIT: Just realized that this was already discussed on the last page. :P

oddsac arrived in the post today and i watched it as soon as i took it out of the box, shit was amazing.

when it finished i just kind of sat there like uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh and took a deep breath or two. that ending scene was amazing, with avey tare painting his whole body red and screaming at these hot girls before the music picks up and he just starts flailing around with this creepy fucking mask on. and then the girls all run away and the camera pans out.

shame the thing didnt come with a separate disc of music :( i was kind of expecting there would be one, owell. there were only a couple moments you could loosely call songs aside from "whats happening" right at the end anyway, and im sure none of it works as well outside the context of the dvd anyway.

also i realized while watching this that the animal collective guys work really fucking hard. i mean, they put out an amazing album and an amazing ep last year, and this year they put out a visual album and the two guys at the centre of it all are both putting out solo albums. and avey tare said theyd probably go back into the studio to record new material start of next year. crazy.

Comments:
Teenage Dream -> Yikes lol... I really love the cover, I love that she used a painting of herself in cotton candy instead of just using an outtake from California Girls. Very simple and elegant, + for no text either to fuck it up. Now onto the music... Well, it sucks. Bar 2 good songs and 1 or 2 decent ones, 5 boring, uninspiring midtempo ballads / 12 tracks was a bad idea...

Lazerproof -> I'm actually giving it a 2nd listen, I kinda rushed through it the first time. Some mashups definitely work and are wonderful, but others are a bit bleh. Ellie Jackson's voice just doesn't belong with those beats sometimes lol.

Flesh Tone -> Another "relisten". It's a good dance/electronic album, but dips into bland house music one too many times and isn't pushing any boundaries in that sense. Small tracklist definitely is a plus, as it keeps the sound from getting too stale by the final track and tightened up the album to only include the best of the best. Good effort overall.

Body Talk, Pt. 1 -> I enjoyed it, but it just didn't click. 3 or 4 songs I just can't get into, and that's already half the album. And that final track (ya know the Swedish folk song?) is a waste of space. :X
B
Body Talk, Pt. 2 -> Better cover = Better album??? It's like she took what worked in the first, made it even better, and then took what didn't and MADE it work. This sequel is definitely better than the original and makes me really start anticipating what Pt. 3 will bring.

Sir Lucius Leftfoot: This Title is Too Long -> Awesome hip hop album. I'm not hip hop buff, and I only listen to a select few albums/artists so I'm not gonna try to explain why I think it's good cause I'll sound dumb.

The Family Jewels: Couple good tracks, everything else for the most part I found not worth listening to again. She is a very unique voice and it's pretty good in small doses (Seriously I listened to her album for too long and just wanted to yell "SHUT UP" at my iPod).

Lazers Never Die EP -> 2 good songs (Good Enuff & Sound of Siren) and then... 3 remixes (technically Good Enuff is "remix" as it uses the same beat of another song, but with new vocals)? Well, I expected more of a taste of their next LP. Oh well...

Acoustic EP -> Amazing. A shame it's an EP, it needs to be longer. I need a full Lights Acoustic LP.

Omnomnom I really need to listen to more stuff.
Give me some albums to listen to. ):

Xiu Xiu - Dear God, I Hate Myself was average.

OK I'm just listening to this now and I was like, man I don't remember hearing about this in the thread or anything, I wonder why, so I went back in the thread to the day it was released because I'm terrible that way.

This album is definitely not average, I've listened like twice and I'm in love. But I mean, it's definitely not for everyone. When I originally listened to clips of some of the songs I wasn't too intrigued but oh man something changed big time I guess.

Just saying haha :D

I'm workin on a list but I want to listen to more stuff before I bother posting.
