2010 music

How are people not liking the new Crystal Castles? Awesome album, kinda odd that they dropped much of their chaos for more structured songs, but I really love it. Great album, just wish it had a different name. >_> Baptism and Pap Smear are the best.

Minus the Bear's Omni is good, but truthfully I was expecting a wee bit more than that lol. Pretty good overall though... Last half of the album > first half. Gonna take a couple more listens, it isn't an instant love.

Is anyone here into Jpop lol? Ayumi Hamasaki's Rock 'n' Roll Circus was released 5 days ago. I quite liked it!

has anyone heard the new HEALTH track from the forthcoming disco2? it's the only new material on it, but oh man it's so good. it still sounds distincly HEALTH, but instead of a noisy clusterfuck it's a heavy hitting synthy blast and it's probably the best thing they've ever put out. doubt the rest of disco 2 will follow though, being just remixes of old material, but who knows.

also i kinda really want to buy high violet but also don't want to wait to hear it :(

bleh, new health just isnt noisy enough

new gaslight is as brilliant as i expected, this band is the future of rock n roll

nobody here talks about Kayo Dot and it makes me sad

AOTY for me so far

also, OMNI is alright. not fantastic like a couple of their earlier albums. the opener was weak so i was having my doubts but the last 3 tracks are really good.

I actually don't think I like For the Masses as much as MUSIC FOR AN ACCELERATED CULTURE, and yeah, I just can't groove to congratulations nearly as much as Oracular Spectacular. I'm hoping it'll grow on me like the weirder stuff on OS did but Idunno.

Yeah, the last say 5 tracks of OS took a while to sink in but I do really enjoy them. Congratulations doesn't really feel like it will do that to the same extent though. I haven't really listened to MFAAC, so I can't really comment. I will get round to it.

Not released in UK yet, possibly?

I really disliked the first CC album, but this new one isn't that bad imo.

edit:
OMNI is p. fucking good, new Gaslight Anthem is pretty much the same as everything else they've done, but it's enjoyable

Give props to the bigger May acts, though. The National, The Hold Steady LCD Soundsystem, and Broken Social Scene all staved off of early leaks for a really long time, and The New Pornographers have managed to keep their album unheard. Hell, The Hold Steady even took the opportunity to make sure they had sold their album before it "leaked".

Also, am I the only one who thinks that "The Smidge" is the first legitimately not good song by The Hold Steady. "When we lie to each other we do it through computers"? Come on, Craig.

CC are releasing the album this Friday I beleive, after how quickly it leaked. Instead of hearing the leak I think I'll go buy it.

well, not so much any more. ;)

listening to 65daysofstatic's album and I think its great.. its not as good as "The Fall of Math" (omgincredible), but the different style in music is pretty enjoyable (note I havent listened to anything in between these two); they still know how to rock.

new 65dos is pretty good, although the intensity of the first two releases is toned down by a lot.

seems the crackdown on uk piracy means i have to use spotify for most everything from now on, unless i want to risk having our internet shut down. i guess i can live with that, spotify is pretty good but still :(

on a lighter note, anyone listened to caribous swim? a few listens in and this is maybe one of my favourite albums of the year so far. i think underwater dance music is a pretty fitting way to describe the aesthetic: watery synths, splashy drums, and muted flutes and horns. really really enjoying it at the moment. (sorry "splashy drums" is probably one of the gayer things i have ever said but it gets my point across)

also, such a great album cover:

Mehhhhh, MGMT hit #2 on the Billboard 200.

Happy for them...but....now they're.....popular......

Just hope they stay cult popular instead of going mainstream popular, kinda like the way Radiohead is.

Vampire Weekend hit number one. I don't think MGMT's success matters, especially considering that Congratulations was only a lukewarm album.

oh man, i'm loving the instrumental Periphery waaay more than the version with vocals.

i was correct in my assumption, the vocals are just distracting. it's like i'm hearing this album for the first time. <3

EDIT:

new Circa Survive is nice, some cool tracks. duno if it'll grow on me more.

new Veil of Maya is surprisingly good.
