2012/2013 Soccer/Football thread

Next 4 fixtures:

Chelsea: Southampton (A) Sunderland (H) Spurs (H) Liverpool (A)

Spurs: Swansea (A) Everton (H) Chelsea (A) City (H)

Arsenal: Reading (H) WBA (A) Norwich (H) Everton (H)

If we can't finish 3rd then I'm gonna lol

Spurs have some work to do but I'd expect Chelsea to beat what's in front of them. They have some amazing players and a decent defence. The only thing they miss is a top striker. I think there's only one CL spot left and it's gonna be Spurs, Arsenal and Everton fighting for them. Can't see Liverpool catching up.

It would be hilarious if the season ended with Utd, Arsenal, Everton and Spurs in top 4 but I don't realistically think City and Chelsea are going to drop that much. (The look on Mankini and John Terry's face would be enough :D)

Better than Howard Webb or Chris Foy don't you think? (Although the latter is more of a double edged sword with his eagerness to wave cards)

michael owen announces his impending retirement - never really clicked with us but still a player i've always admired greatly and one of my favourites growing up. such a shame his career was plagued by injury in the way it was but there've been some highlights. THAT goal against Argentina in 98? i vividly remember my whole family going mad, even the ones who don't like football - it was just so obviously special. FIFA World Player of the Year in 2001 after firing Liverpool to the Treble (158 goals in 297 games is pretty special) is huge too and he's England's all-time top scorer when only competitive matches are taken into account.

i tip my hat

bloody hell Lee, you must be the only newcastle fan who has any affection for him! i for one look forward to his new career in bringing MOTD to new depths of banality and shite

i don't usually post in this thread because it's literally always conversations about premier league but who do you guys have in the UCL quarterfinals?

juve v bayern is obviously the best match of the round- i think it could go either way. i think galatasaray could upset madrid but i dont see barca losing to psg, sorry

edit: oh and malaga will lose handily to dortmund

i may eat my words, but i think juve is going to untroubled against bayern, im looking forward to galatasaray and madrid even if it turns out to be one sides.

actually i watch juventus very often and the most troubles they get vs teams are long shots (which bayern have in excess with robben / kroos / schwein) and pacey counter attacks (every winger in bayern).

i expect a very close game with the edge for bayern

I'd love nothing more than to see Juve get fucked at the Allianz Arena. A 1-0 setback in Turin wouldn't hurt either.......anything more than that would be too much to ask of Bayern, Juve are practically unbeatable at home. Barca,Madrid and Dortmund should go through with relative ease. I predict a Barca-Dortmund final with Dortmund (obviously) winning. They can bully the fuck out of Barca in the air and are one of the best counter attacking sides in europe as of now.

i think we're not going to be seeing a lot of goals in the juve bayern tie.

Juve are very light upfront and whilst mandzukic is a good player, i can't see him causing monsters like Barzagli, Bonucci and Chiellini any trouble.

I do agree with rey that Bayern have the edge. the key to beating juve is to overload the wide areas where the wingbacks are isolated. Bayern have excellent overlapping fullbacks in Lahm and Alaba as well as deadly wingers that can cut in and shoot from distance, so i can see them trying to exploit this problem in juve's system.

pls.. mandzukic fucked chiellini at the euros

anyway i think gomez might get the start regardless based on how poorly mandzukic played in the arsenal game

Norwich sign Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, what do you guys think. IMO great signing that can push us to top half- Holt/Kamara/Van Wolfswinkel isn't a bad attack.

top signing yeah

im just really glad its him, i get really scared whenever i see a headline that involves 'Norwich complete deal for..........'

Good signing for Norwich, I remember watching him the Europa league last season. He played really well and also helped Sporting Lisbon knock City out with a goal.
