2012, the year the Internet ends?

http://ipower.ning.com/netneutrality2

I don't know if the Time magazine article has came out yet or not.
thats just freaking gay. it's just the government doing stuff to make people more ignorant so they can do the whatever the hell they want. with disney and all of those people doing being evil future generations will be domed.
On the other hand people still download illegal music so i wouldn't be surprised on people "pirating" the internet

Yeah, I dont know much about the internet, but I'm skeptical about the threat of this..

It would just about ruin my life if this happened though. In many ways.

Have a nice day.

I'm also skeptical of the threat although I have many local places I can go to and use their net if worse comes to worse.

Guys just cause the Mayans said the world would end in 2012 it doesn't mean it's going to. Can we all just please use some common sense here?

Somehow I doubt this will happen. If it does, I'm going to pray the world really does end December 21st, 2012. A world where I have to pay for the internet like that isn't going to be fun.

Maybe it's just me, but that article doesn't exactly seem unbiased, and the whole site doesn't seem to be a high-quality source of information to me.

It's a blog, not something I'd really trust, like an actual magazine.

Though I possess a healthy skepticism, it doesn't seem all that impossible that something like this could happen. The said thing is that there are enough people like me who would pay the highest price to get the full package...V_V;;.

I've seen this already and it looks like complete bs. I won't believe anything until it comes from a credible/legitimate source.

here's to paying for smogon!

I've heard things like this before, but I still don't think it will happen without some major fights with the media and the masses.

I do not really believe this, but I guess it would actually be a good thing for the world in one sense if it did happen (make us get back into our real lives again), but it would be pretty absurd still.

if this happens then no more mafia in #fluodome, although I do think like many others here, it might be bs.

hi this would never work even if they did it

all that would need to happen is that one ISP offer unlimted access and and the whole scheme is wrecked

google actually gets most of its revenue from "smaller sites" etc, this would make google redundant (what's the point of a search engine for an internet with 200 websites) so to protect its market they could set up an unrestricted ISP easily gg we just monopolized the internet

Well the whole point of the video is the the ISPs are collaborating to make this happen, since there is a lot more money to be made if you have to pay for every non-standard website you visit.

Still, your point about google is extremely valid and that alone would seemingly make this all but impossible to work out.

Also, I don't see how this would happen in 3-4 years. The amount of PR required would be amazing, since anyone with half a brain realizes that this is retarded. Besides that, the backlash from the porn industry alone would probably be enough to stop this.

Even if it did happen, I imagine that ISPs would start to slowly revert back to the way it is now, similar to what is happening with Cell Phone service in the US right now (companies have started offering "unlimited" plans for cheaper and cheaper).

Sounds scary.

In the video, watch from 3:20 onwards, the camera switches to the woman's cleavage for no real reason.

Basically, while there are some entities with a vested interest in contracting the internet, there are more entities, just as big, with an interest in expanding it. Google/Amazon/eBay want MORE users, not less. E-vendors don't want their customers to be paying more to get to their site.

In addition, free markets are a dick, so it's inevitable that someone purchases some backbone, starts an ISP with unrestricted internet for maybe $5 less a month than the big ones, supply (1 free ISP) meets demand (for unrestricted ISPs) = profit, etc, etc.

Finally, I really think that something like this violates antitrust/collusion laws.
