2013 Music

the internet will hate me for this, but i can't get into mbv. i've tried and tried and tried to get into loveless so many times now and i just can't. all i get from the album are 50 million sounds mashed together with vocals i can't understand. listening to their new album, i gave up 5 minutes in.

It's cool, their music is obviously not for everyone. What helped me get into them was listening to the main melody and just absorbing all the other sounds. But hey, everyone can have their own opinions.

Finally giving it a listen and wow. The melodies are so much more complex yet their sound is still the same as it was 22 years ago. There is just no way an album with greater importance will emerge this year. Brilliant.

For what it's worth, I always thought that Loveless was one of those albums you had to approach with a different mind set. I absolutely hated it at first but then one day I just listened to it and let the sound just wash over me and now it's one of my favorites. A friend of mine said it's one of those, "Don't listen to the music, feel the music type things", if that makes sense.

Also I only heard the first track so far, but it sounds sort of like bland Loveless worship.
 
MBV is okay and all but I think too many people trip all over themselves to proclaim their love for Loveless. In my opinion, outside of "Sometimes" it's a pretty average album. And Isn't Anything is even worse.

Best shoegaze band of all time for me is Slowdive, who always lived in MBV's shadow. Just For a Day is fucking perfection.
 
What can I say. When you click with MBV you CLICK with them. I will fight someone to the death to defend Loveless, and to an extent Isn't Anything. That's just how it is.

Basically this. It's not bad sounding tbh, it just doesn't stand out for me as anything I should bother listening to.
 
I feel really bad since I've never heard of MBV before, but than I saw they haven't released anything for 12 years and that they're shoegazing, so that's probably why I've never heard of them.(I don't really like shoegazing, never could get into it)


On a different note, I'm not sure if anyone is interested, but Red's new album, Release the Panic(alternative metal, nu metal), leaked a few days ago. It's different, but pretty good, not as good as their other albums imo, but still good. Notable songs: Release the Panic(I actually don't like this song, but a lot of other people do), Perfect Life, Hold Me Now, and As You Go.

The problem is that you only gave it 5 minutes. You wont ever really appreciate an album, especially one with some complexion in one listen let alone 5 minutes. Try playing it in the background at a moderate volume while you're doing something else. That always helps me if I find an album too unsettling at first.

I always heard people talking about Souvlaki but apart from the opening song nothing really interested me. I'll check out Just For a Day. Just because I remember you posting about mbv on a shoegaze thread a while back before I even knew what shoegaze was.

I tried to get into Loveless twice and failed, but I enjoyed m b v very much. Maybe I'll have to re-revisit their earlier work...

This is my favorite album right now. (I know it's not technically 2013 music but I figured this is the place to put it)

There is not a single bad song on the entire thing. My personal favorite is Tiptoe, but Hear Me is really good too. And of course Radioactive / It's Time are great. Imagine Dragons is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands.

Man, I was about to post this just now, I'm excited as hell man! If this preview is an indication for the rest of the album, I'm gonna be a real happy camper when the album is released!
 
I believe the mbv hype train has settled down (no shame), so I can now ask everyone what they think about the new Iceage album.
