I've been playing this for almost six hours, and I've gotten to a score of half a million plus, and highest blocks are two sixteen thousand some one. I want to sleep, but I don't want to give up this much progress. guess my browser stays open over night.
Hint: it doesn't
that number is in the quadrillions and would take a couple whole days to reach if there is even ample space at that point

well since you start off with 2 2s and a 2 spawns every time you move...

This is flat-out impossible until proven otherwise.
Best I could get is 16, and I don't think you can actually get more.
Edit : upon further inspection, 32 seems possible, but you need to be really lucky.

Got to 128 easily enough. You've gotta use WASD too, but I'm not sure exactly what that does.
OK, I think I understand. You basically use arrows to move in the 4x4 boxes, and you use WASD to move the contents of a 4x4 box to another box. It's really confusing.
